I love this, I'm from Louisiana and have moved from saltwater to small stream in tigh area. The skagit game is a must, and has changed the game for me because of all the brush on all side of the creeks I've been fishing. I'm hooked to this style.
Same here! I am completely addicted to it. I use it everywhere but small creeks it’s just canon! Hahah! Thanks for watching and good luck down there eh!
Great video. I’ve been Skagit casting in Colorado and it’s slowly catching on. I would recommend OPST lines because they have shorter heads that are perfect for 9ft rods.
Never tried OPST because at the time they were sold out everywhere i looked! I have grown to really enjoy the skagit scout heads(i have a bunch of them). The little bit extra length gives me more of an aggressive sweep when i want to launch it on big waters. Just love this way of fishing. Thanks for watching man, appreciate the support!
Enjoyed the video. Good looking stream there. Sometimes between the black flies and mosquitoes they can really try one's patience. Especially if your having a slow day fishing. Lol
Oh my goodness!! My sanity was on the line on this adventure! I was carrying around the camera gear and had skitters all over my hands!! Ha!!! The fishing picked up when the bugs were at their worst! Go figure!
I’ve used a 7 ‘ 4 wt fiberglass rod with OPST skagit on my local trout club. In this small slow flowing stream I find the skagit line falls too forcefully on the water and spooks fish in comparison to a delicate standard 4 wt line.
Yeah. Their lines are a bit fatter. This season I will go over A LOT more on the subject. This was just an overview and am starting to get better at the camera work etc. I have some tips how to get certain presentations. That all being said, there are places where skagit just won’t do. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment👊
Interesting, i fish in areas where my main cast is a roll cast due to not much back cast room. I’m gonna check out the other video. No need to apologize about the bugs, those little things are a sure nuisance
I use roll casts like you all the time. It’s just a pain to cast larger streamers with a double taper or even a weight forward line. The skagit head launches them no problem! In this video, the fish wanted something small. I tried a pile of flies in size 6-8 range but nothing committed till i went down to size 10 and 12. Thanks a bunch for watching! Always appreciate your time!
Sorry, but Skagit techniques are not the product of Canada! The techniques were developed on the Skagit River in Washington State to address problems the local steelhead fishers had with using traditional double-handed spey or single-handed overhead cast methods. Some of these pioneers (Ed Ward for example) saw that the Skagit style equipment and techniques could be scaled down and applied to trout fishing in smaller rivers (single-handed spey, trout spey, micro-spey, etc.).
