Ever since the first plastic LEGO minifigure cape was introduced in 1987, LEGO has continued to use their creativity to design incredible capes for LEGO minifigures. They just keep getting better! From LEGO Castle to LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Ninjago, LEGO has released hundreds of capes. Let’s explore the evolution of LEGO capes for minifigures. I’ll also talk about some of my personal favorites and some of the weirdest LEGO minifigure capes! Enjoy!

I personally love the cloth capes because they essentially give you a template when you are a kid and let you make your own capes out of whatever flexible material you want.
I also feel like looking at the batman and Dr strange capes, they feel like they would... get in the way of playing? I mean I wouldnt know but from the puctures I can already see the thibg fall off or be just too large in general. The paper capes have movement because the child makes them move. I loved the caped and I was always a little suprised with how sturdy they were, i dont think its a coinicdence that they were used for so long.
I literally just found that Batman poly bag down the street for like $5
Got mine off amazon for like £6 lol
good job
GREAT SPITBRIX LEGO CAPES.
That Batman Polly bag is like 10 dollars on Amazon
😳
I'd love to see the old plastic capes get used in new sets as shingles, tree bark, or building siding.
I used black ones as bulletproof vests when I was a kid.
Bro lego needs to hire you that’s such a good idea
I think they could make cool petals for giant flowers :3
would be torture to build tho
3:58 It's kind of funny you say they were prone to ripping and fraying because of the one hole, but then both photos you show are completely unrelated. The fraying cape has 2 holes, and the "torn" cape isn't torn at all, but specifically cut to look as if it were damaged.
When I was a kid I used to cut up triangle shaped pieces of paper towels and color them with markers to make all kinds of capes.
The cloth capes were peak lego capes
I never had capes (I was never into castle stuff) but whenever I wanted to make castle things, I cut my capes out of paper and punch a hole in it to use it.
Smart :)
Having owned the Lego Loco game, the character from the mini set is supposed to represent the Stationmaster's alter ego, the Super Stationmaster - although when he appears in the game, he'd have his actual uniform rather than the full body costume he has in the polybag.
About the thumbnail, is the blur really necessary
that's how youtubers make you curious enough to click the Video and watch
just respect the hustle man
The cape had... dirty content on it.
00:36 there actually is a hard plastic cape like it now, with the new Minecraft cape being introduced earlier this year. (part №5022 btw)
I'm curious now. Will you ever do a video on Lego during the early to early mid-20th Century? Going from its founding, the Great Depression, Nazi Germany's occupation of Denmark, and the early years Cold War.
Also, a history of Lego bootlegs would also be an interesting topic, especially in a historical context.
No one cares about that era lol.
lego already has a high quality video about their founding on their own channel
It’s somewhat worth noting that the Batman cape that came with the Batmobile and the one that came in the polybag aren’t exactly the same: the bat symbol is different.
Bro 10k for the unopened cloud set!! You said 2…. Big difference lol
They were cheaper I think but now lego is rich
+inflation
I love and really appreciate your history dives into specific pieces or themes. Keep at it!
I have one of those black hard plastic capes in a pile of used LEGO from a friend. I’ve wondered what that was for over 10 years, thanks for finally giving me the answer!
The rubber capes, especially Batman's, look bad imo. Having the Batman mask and cape in one piece limits things like turning the head. I hope Lego stays doing the current fabric ones.
So in other words, it’s movie accurate.
Seconded, it looks too thick too (especially around the batman symbol).
8:54 I live in Scotland its not a Dress its a Kilt
Why did i read this in a Scottish accent?
"OI, I liv een Sco'lind, it aren't a Duress, Itsa Kelt!"
Man I remember as a child I played a lot with the old castle legos and watching this makes me so nostalgic cause im just point at the screen and say "Wait I had that!!" Especially with the firebreeding fostress baseplate, I remember it so well LOL.
They were hand downs from my older brother so they were all just in a box mixed together but I had so much fun
7:40 So that’s why Lego Star Wars Freemaker Adventures had a whole episode about retrieving that cape.
Is this a 10 minute video about Lego capes…
Yes
Precisely
10:46 is the precise time 🤓🤓🤓
Yes, there are 2 separate versions of set 2585. The cape isn't the only difference - there are two separate head prints also - one has a red hero mask, and the other doesn't. This head print was exclusive to the set, really awesome. What blows my mind is that Bricklink currently has the masked figure marked for deletion, claiming that this variation wasn't in any set. He definitely was - I have him in my collection.
There's actually two different LEGO Tim Burton Batman cowls. The original comes with 1989 Batmobile set. The newer ones use the symbol from Batman Returns, the bat motif is slightly different.
My personal favorite cape is probably the one that comes with the Storm figure in the Marvel Minifigures Series 2 cause I've only ever seen capes that go on minifigure arms in customs and it reminds me of her appearence in the first Lego Marvel Game, though that one uses her Astonishing look as opposed to Minifgures Storm using her 90s outfit.
2:20 i never saw the actual figure, but lego loco was a game for pc and i had that. He was originally a superfigure. All lego figures in the game had gibberish voice lines and his was quite distinct because hus happy line was clearly meant to resemble "da da da da da da da, super-man!" And the caped figure could fly.
One of my favorites is Lando's one but from the newer cloud city.
My nephew took 20% of my legos from my mom's house several years ago, and of course took the most important ones. Almost all my minifigs and accessories from the 94-04 legos, consisting of a lot of 99 star wars sets, and castle sets including the dragon guy cape and the king capes. It was my goal to build my old sets and collect the ones I had missed out on, now I'm basically starting from scratch. It's really frustrating. The more I watch these videos, the more I realize how much value they had.
I was seething when the video ended without him talking about the capes in the Mobile Bat Base.
I used a red plastic cape to make a Superman ages before Lego got the DC license. XD Red cape, blue torso turned backwards so that the cape covered what was printed on it, blue arms, blue legs, red pelvis, black hair, DONE!
Bro, I got two of the witch capes, that’s kinda neat knowing the history behind it
I think the cooler part about the capes. Is that you can just print your own and cut it.
Its not the original. But if your a kid or making your own moc. Its pretty cool to be able to get a template and make your own capes, skirts...
There was actually a plastic cape done this year (that being 2024)
Piece 5022, in "The Devourer Showdown", it's on the Hero minifigure
We also got alternative batman cape that looked more dynamic in the Mobile Bat-Base set
my favorite are the spongy fabric capes! they can hold its shape and don't wrinkle like the classic fabric capes
i know its normal to hate the brown cape that frayed alot and was easily damaged but i kinda like the effect it got over time from weathering, it looks good to me
The new thor cape 🔥
That moment when you have both the Bat Lord and the Witch cloth capes at home XD
Best cape is homemade capes made out of those brown paper grocery bags, using packing tape on the underside to reinforce it. It is so nice and soft after being wrinkled!
You can also make hoods with the same material that can go over existing hair pieces, though you can’t really use packing tape reinforcements.
You could if you tape it in shape and punch a hole where the neck goes
@@swagmiredoesall yeah forgot to mention we (my dad and I) used a hole puncher for the neck hole. The tape isn’t actually necessary, though it does make it more sturdy
@@Yoda_16358 right
A great improvement process.
I have both the kings cape and the dragon master cape just lying in a box of old lego
1:56 the mask is also removed from the alternative art. I think they reimagined what that character was suppose to be, went from a mysterious almost villain-like character to a friendly cart operator.
I was hoping you’d mention the thinner cut capes that Mandalorians got later on
I'm very excited to get the new capes in august in the Avengers sets for thor and loki
9:31 the batman cape was made first, it came in the 1989 batwing and batmobile sets in 2020
We in Slovenia have a lot of the Batman polybags, so I was able to get it
I have that Keaton Batman
No Red Son cape acknowledgement? Damn
The story for the red plastic capes in 1998 is even more strange. There was a second set (the "Chess King") with an almost identical story. There you can also find pictures of both. Also the piece overall wasn't used after 1994 (93 even for red, the year of the first textile cape) and then only came back for these two limited sets sold with books? Looks to me, like selling remaining stock.
The piece however made an actual comeback for the "Legends" sets in 2002 and 2003 - in blue and black.
I still personally prefer the cloth capes or the new plastic ones
its crazy to be this early. but also crazy how the hard plastic capes were in use when lego starwars came out, meaning for 3 years we could've had a darth vader or luke skywalker with a black hard plastic cape
I owned 6074 (Black Falcons Fortress) and didn't ever notice that there was a 2002-Version (10039)
I don't have that many capes, but I'm a big fan of the Nightmare King cape from Dreamzzz
In the Rivendell set, each character of the Fellowship of the Ring had a cloak, and made of different materials.
17 MINUTES YES
9:37 the batman one piece is real.
How dare you do my boy Kildar of Hard Way so dirty! He’s more than just a random skeleton!
There is also the nightmare king cape from the lego dreamzzz theme it has an anmazing rubber cape with weird wolf like shapes on it
Hey spitbrix! so the fotrex set from the nexo nights theme well at the gate we can see a part of a classic phone piece and 2 alien gun blasters
The first time I saw a cape was a red one in a $5 space police set. I think his name was simply Squidhead. I saw two holes so I tried stretching his arms through the holes. 😂
Then, I must’ve looked at the box and realized what I was doing wrong.
They went back to the one hole capes for 4+ but I think they should only do that when it suits the cape or because it’s too thick material.
They shouldn’t do it to make it easier for kids. Kids gotta learn at some point just like I did.
I have the polybag of the Michael Keaton Batman. Got it for my birthday for roughly 10 bucks. Didn't know it was considered rare
It’s not really. They’re really easy to find online.
Don't forget Lord Business' cape!
What about the dune baron harkonnen cape for a special one
My god! It's been a quarter century! I feel so old! 😫
i tried to do it and it won't work, did valve fix it?
I hate the plastic/rubber capes 😭. I thought the soft fabric ones from 2016 ish were definitely the best
i think my grandparents had the brown cape
Honestly I like the first versions of the capes. But it might just be me liking old Lego ( thanks dad)
Michael keaton batman was also in the ucs batmobile and batwing
i watcht it when it was 22 seconds online
I like capes from Ninjago time twins
I like the plastic capes
I think i have that old plastic cape
I think I have a brown cap I’m ngl from all my dads childhood legos
I have the blacksmith!😮 I had no clue the cape was worth 40 dollars!!💸💸💸💸
Tambien me gustaron mucho las capas de los villanos del tema Dreamzzz
3:23 i have that minifigure but idk where it is
Hi spit brix:)
just realised thanks to this vid that the lego bat lord minifigure from the castle theme and the vampire knight from the cmf series 25 series are extremely simmilar in appearance and i havent heard anyone mention it yet, they even have the same pointy moustache!
could they be the same guy??
Go through every year of Lego and choose the worst and best cape per year
I think the first capes for the castle sets are quite cool, sort of like a more subtler substitute for the full on capes we have now a days. They could also count as additional armour for custom figs.
wait the 4 bat-lord capes I have are worth how much?
You for got the super hero sponge bob cape with 1 hole
Wait, wait, wait, that Batman rubber cape and cowl is RARE?
I kinda don’t mind the small plastic caps.
Uh, the Harry Potter invisibility cloak is only one part.
This will e lego edna mode's worst nightmare in lego incredibles
THe batman poly bag set is sitting in toy stores here in Europe
Are you going to brick world 2024 in Chicago?
I have a weird instruction I hope you can shed some light on! The Caravan Family Holiday 3 in 1 Lighthouse step 35 wants you to make a small flat object and then just set it in a perfectly sized space. Do you know what it is?
THE POKÉMON? 3:05
ONE PIECE 4:54
apocolypseburg batman cape
Me: bro this song and the dance sucks. Also me: watches it 10000000000998737366262 times straight for 2 weeks
Yeah Hoping Superman will get one with the Re-launch of the DCU with the upcoming Superman(2025)
My friends dad sold the cloud city set for 400 dollars 😭😭
The only time rubber capes work is on Dr. Strange and 89 Batman, it sucks on everything else
Hello everyone
My name is Markiplier
This is your daily dose of gd
Why did they make one of the guys in the hand car/loco stationmaster set mostly yellow? He looks like an almost naked guy with a red tattoo, wearing nothing but only a few items.
Umm… so I have 2 if the brown plastic cape
I'm sure if a cape is wanted get fabric squares and make it yourself.
Pretty sure darth maul isnt a villain
