I can't remember where, but I'm pretty sure I remember a designer being interviewed mentioning they like putting frogs in sets because they just like the frog piece. There are plenty of designers who like adding personal touches... there's one Technic set designer who tries to make orange sets as often as possible, and another set designer who likes adding references to Rock Raiders as well as pieces previously exclusive to that theme.
As someone who works for LEGO and makes the bricks, the theory about over abundance of frogs is not true. LEGO uses the LEAN concept and Just-In-Time principle, we do not store overproduction, if LEGO creates too many of an element, they get discarded, regrinded and reused or sold to third party vendors.
Thank you just like the double set theory never heard of it at all and I believe it never happened. Lego was real meticulous about their stuff that they sent out. They definitely try to make sure nothing like that happens and you will pay for it if you get an extra one.
If you got proof then I recommend you make a video yourself proving or debunking some of these theories. Also last time I checked, plastic can be melted down, no need to fully grind
You do need to regrind the plastic first, then melt it down. If not, you can run into a lot of problems during melting process giving you poor quality material. Plus it's just inefficient, regrind is denser than just filling a bag or box with old parts as you don't get the same air gaps. It's pretty much standard practice for manufacturers to just grind down, melt, and reuse excess or out of spec parts. Material is expensive (in my old job 3 hours was £7k of material), and it gives you a buffer if just-in-time fulfillment falls through and you need to go a day or so without new supply. Plus, LEGO is known to be a Lean Six Sigma company, and LSS hates waste. So I'd believe it
I understand what you're sayong but when you realise how many different parts and colours there are it quickly becomes unfeasible to store large amounts of single parts.
Correction. The ABS plastic used to make LEGO is recyclable, and LEGO grinds and reuses sprue and mis moulds throughout their processes. So, a million excess frogs would have just been added back to the line to be reused as raw plastic.
LEGO also maintains an inventory of pieces, they don't just make every piece to order. That's how they have excess available for online Pick-A-Brick. So what's more likely is that, if the frogs _were_ overproduced, they probably just kept them in bulk inventory and then held off on producing them for an extended period of time. No need to get rid of them. The existence of online Pick-A-Brick debunks any claims that LEGO utilizes JIT at the production level, because in order to be able to special order injection molded parts like that on demand you HAVE to have inventory on-hand to sell from. Injection molding has very low per-unit costs for parts but VERY high tooling costs per die, so there's no sense in offering a service to make just one part to order even if that part is also mass produced.
My theory on the abundance of frogs is that Lego is giving the designers a small bonus every time they manage to think of a new use of frogs based on how interesting and creative it is
I like to think the frogs is a inside joke between the designers where they try to put the most frogs in the set and try to hide them in the most clever ways possable
I worked for a time in LEGO House. And I can say there is no where in that building where there would be space to hide a million LEGO frogs. The building can be a bit of a maze sure. But only used for the functionality of keeping the house running. There is no secret storage or any of the sort. And I also find that idea silly in general because the house was expensive enough to build. So doing more expenses to expand it for storage that just sits there and needs upkeep and staff which doesn't make any bonuses for the experience to create more economy for the house.. It just doesn't make sense.
I have the Lego Bonsai set and chose the cherry blossom variant to build. All those little pink frogs. And my mom is a HUGE fan of frogs, so she absolutely fell in love with the Bonsai set I built.
I’ve never received a duplicate set, but I did have a random large set I didn’t order arrive with the sets I did order. I notified LEGO of the mistake, and was given the choice between either them sending me a return shipping label, or buying the set for 30% off If it was in any way intentional they would have just said “our mistake, you can keep it”
I've worked in plastic factories all my life and it's not common for them to store overstock. It's just recycled, before it get dusty because the dust make contamination in the plastic and make it unusable especially for small precise parts like lego.
The phenomenon that the last one is about doesn't really exist, and is much more easily explained by LEGO refining their box design, and their shifting focus (at the high end) towards adults, who are buying these LEGO sets as a premium collector's item (I wonder what the C in UCS stands for lol); not as toys to play with, but as model kits that will get displayed statically on a shelf, and the minimalist, flat black design of most UCS boxes is supposed to reflect that (a "this is a Premium Product for Serious Adults" sort of vibe). This more streamlined look has definitely bled over a little into the boxart for non-UCS Star Wars sets, and in the last few years, they've clearly deliberately moved away from backgrounds that have too many specific, identifiable details (like other ships, buildings, landmarks, etc) that aren't part of the set itself. Naturally, there's a lot less stuff in the background to explode, and LEGO probably doesn't want to show parts of their actual set blowing up, but the laser fire still shows up (for example, 75348: Mandalorian Fang Fighter vs TIE Interceptor from 2023). And you only have to go back to 2021 to find plenty of explosions with the slightly busier boxart style (75300: Imperial TIE Fighter, for one). Even UCS has had sets as recently as 2018 with the super actiony boxart with other fighters and lasers and explosions in the background (75181: Y-Wing Starfighter). Accidentally sent myself down a rabbit hole with this one lol
In the whimsical world of LEGO, there exists a clandestine group known as the Amphibuilders. This society believes that frogs are the true architects of the universe, and they secretly place LEGO frogs in various sets as a tribute to their amphibious inspirations. According to their lore, each frog is a talisman that brings creativity and balance to the builder, ensuring that every construction is imbued with a touch of froggy wisdom. So next time you find a LEGO frog, know that it’s not just a cute addition, but a symbol of a deeper connection to the cosmos, as per the Amphibuilders’ grand design. 🐸✨ Have an awesome day!💥From Fun At Home (Hot Wheels, Lego, Cards, Stamps & collectables)👍
The idea that a manufacturing error overproduced frogs can be debunked by considering that lego pieces are not dyed, they are created in the color that they are. If it was a manufacturing error, we'd have a million frogs of one color, but that's simply not the case, the frogs come in a bunch of different colors, so they'd have to be produced per set. If we use Occam's Razor, the more believable explanation is just that the frogs are a more versatile piece than most people consider
Yup. I love lego frogs. they're so much fun to collect and have so many uses. I for one, don't mind the abundance of lego frogs, and hope they get released in many newer colors too.
I bought a Christmas cabin lego set last December and they sent me an extra lego ornament gift that honestly I don't remember being advertised on the website. I love lego.
My theory on frog this is there was on overproduction not as big a scale as in the og theory like 100,000 more than needed enough they had to find a way to get rid of em so the designers sliped em into some extra sets and it stuck either because they saw some legitimate benefits in it or as an inside joke
My theory is that removing the lasers from star wars sets is because they want to be more truthful to the set, the set obviously doesn't come with lasers so why ad them on the boxart
I don't have the skills to sort the data, but from a glance at brick link it does look like all the frogs are in very old colors and no new ones. They've introduced a lot of green/brown variant colors lately but frogs only ever come in the ones on Brick Link
I can say for sure Lego has sent me sets I did not order. A few years ago I ordered the Imperial Light Class Cruiser from the Mandalorian, and included in the box was also Trouble on Tattooine from the same year
You are the goat of Lego my favourite RUclipsr and you find new things about Lego specially Lego iq moments and I am gonna watch this video whenever someone reply or like this comment
The reason why the newer box arts for Star Wars Space ships are lacking lasers is probably because of the audience they are aimed at. Back in the day it was kids, to play with them, now it is adult collectors, to display them.
I don’t remember what video I watched but I learned a year or 2 ago that designers love to leave a mark in each set they design. One such designer started putting a frog in their sets, at first it was natural and then it became a challenge for that designer. AFAIK, it’s just for that designer, that’s it. Other designers have different markers.
Lego doesn't have a firm "no-weapons policy". They very clearly don't. Swords, rifles, pistols, lasers, tasers, they've done it all. Their so-called "policy" bends at the slightest hint of money.
For the second conspiracy i think it's a modified version of the first theory. Yeah they purposely send out 2 in a order so now people who would be in the fence can see there is a chance they can double up if they are lucky
I know that I can't confirm that I don't work for Lego, but I received two sets of the Lego NES set that was released a few years ago. The joke is on Lego tho, I never posted about it online, just sold it online for more than I paid for originally. Thanks Lego!
I really doubt they'd intentionally send out 2 of an expensive set on purpose. Because the first thing any reasonably minded person would do is panic and keep checking their bank account for a second $300+ purchase they didn't plan for, and calling tech support to double check if they were billed for it.
Sir! There's been a huge mistake! What are we gonna do with all these frogs!? Frogs? Steve, I don't see any frogs here. I see unpainted cherry tree leaves. ...I understand, sir.
when i was a kid the frog element was in like one bellvile set and a few in harry potter, both themes i dont collect and i stopped purchasing lego at 15 (2013) so i missed out on all the sets lego dumped frogs into i am the amphibian-less
On the theory of the Star Wars boxes, on the newest one I think it’s just the special box design, i have the Ford GT 2022 and it features the same box design

There are frogs of every colour of the rainbow, did they make an equal amount of frogs in every colour by mistake? I think not, and you're not recolouring Lego pieces once they're made either. Theory debunked based on logic.
Well, since most of the sets have green frogs, the theoretical mistake would have to be green frogs. Then the designers got used to using frogs, so wanted to put other color frogs in it.
My theory with the frogs is that they are either an inside joke or some sort of signature of a designer or group of designers.
This is exactly my thought. Wasn't there a designer that would hide a piece with his initials on it, or something similar to that idea?
I can't remember where, but I'm pretty sure I remember a designer being interviewed mentioning they like putting frogs in sets because they just like the frog piece.
There are plenty of designers who like adding personal touches... there's one Technic set designer who tries to make orange sets as often as possible, and another set designer who likes adding references to Rock Raiders as well as pieces previously exclusive to that theme.

1 million frog pieces would take up close to one cubic meter, give or take.
This is hard a storage issue.
I understand what you're sayong but when you realise how many different parts and colours there are it quickly becomes unfeasible to store large amounts of single parts.
Fun theory; but, it would make sense that there's an abundance of green frogs, being that the majority of frogs are green
Correction. The ABS plastic used to make LEGO is recyclable, and LEGO grinds and reuses sprue and mis moulds throughout their processes. So, a million excess frogs would have just been added back to the line to be reused as raw plastic.

Like the pink brick in Star Wars, the designer can put a pink brick receive a cake
I like to think the frogs is a inside joke between the designers where they try to put the most frogs in the set and try to hide them in the most clever ways possable
lol. I think master builders just like frogs a lot because they're an unusual shape and make great contrasting details.
I worked for a time in LEGO House. And I can say there is no where in that building where there would be space to hide a million LEGO frogs. The building can be a bit of a maze sure. they have also started using roller skates in strange places, like on baby Minecraft turtles or even car door handles
I blame Half Asleep Chris for the abundance of frogs in Lego sets
Yeah, that’s possible
Does it come with a Lego froggg!
And building in the bag!
They're oddly fun to collect
