Why is it that only members from judicial families become top-notch judges? The doors to entry are either completely closed, or the system is made so complicated that even ordinary judicial officers struggle to understand it. Imagine if such a situation had existed in ancient and medieval times - what would have happened then? Anyway, felicitations to you, sir, and to your entire family.
Mrs Indira Gandhi superceded three Sr.most judges of SC n appointed Delhi HC CJ Mr.A.N.Ray as CJI in 1975! It was direct intervention of executice in Judiciary. He overturned Judgement of Allahabad HC in favour of late Indira Gandhi! But Modi never interfeared in judicial appointments n honouring seniority of SC judges.
I think this profile of Justice Khanna is premature and devious - one has to understand the context in which judicial decisions are taken in the current political climate. Repeated references to the late Justice HR Khanna’s judgement against Indira Gandhi is again a mischievous and misconceived act- there is no way the nephew can gain credibility by tagging him to the coattails of his famous uncle- who was an institution in himself. The current political climate is far worse and vicious if one were to go by what Justice Sanjiv Khanna’s predecessor faced in the current regime. There are many Justices who have come and gone and given pretentious lectures of upholding the rule of law whereas in practice, they have repeatedly erred in giving bail to those who are languishing in prison for more than 4 years when granting of bail is a rule rather than an exception.

Hollow talks and long lectures with excellent academic values will not change the system. There are no political reforms and gundas take to politics and talk non-sence and decide policies, many Justices who accupy the highest office have not exibited high moral values and commitment to what they belong. The examples r R Gogie and now Chandrachud, Nazir in recent times who talked a lot and did not much just thought of their future!!!

What is the age of retirement of Chief Justice ? I don't know . Date of birth of Justice Khanna as you say is 14 th May , 1960 .
65 is the retirement for chief justice of India.
He will retire on 14 May, 2025.
