I don’t know much about oil other than the Bob Ross painting I did decades ago. I learned that I hate all the mess and having to clean all my brushes and smell turpentine. I even got paint on my pajama pants that never came off! (Yes, I painted in my pj’s 🤣) So my memories of oil is that there’s a lot of hassle. That is why I really appreciate your taking the time and effort to make a video and share your art/process with us. (Does someone help you film? I was wondering if you had to lug around two tripods in addition to all the filming and painting equipment all by yourself!) Still, I love how oil looks…. and the closest I’ll probably ever get to that oil look is gouache. (Acrylics are messy too, so I don’t touch those either.)
Hi, I started using artisan oil paint by windser and Newton.
It's a water based oil paint, so you don't need anything like turps or chemicals.
No smell.
You can use it with water or any of the normal items that you'd use with normal oil, like linseed oil or something, to clean the brushes is just a bit of soap and water. Of course it doesn't dry as quick as gouache but it's really good.

Hello Juan. This video was a real treat. I paint in watercolour….but you have have made me curious about oil. May I ask about the surface you painted on ? Personally, I would enjoy more of these coil paintings.
Hi! Working with oils is not toooo diferent from watercolors as people says..
I took a wood panel, then a coat of gesso, and another coat of burn siena tone…
It is a very old fashioned way to start oils but it is wonderful 👌
@@JuanBosco Thank you for the detailed answer. I was wondering if the background colour was actually paint or a medium. So far oil had to be applied in thick goowy layers which did not always appeal to me. But yours looked so thin and delicate that I am ready to reconsider my (hasty) judgment.😀. Do you think à course is absolutely necessary to start oil or can I just learn as I go by ?
I would say: first rule of painting: not fear at all to try and experimenting with everything . All the old masters did it. You can for example even mix different mediums like watercolors with oils! In art everything is allowed if the result is beautiful 🤣
You could start by yourself and try everything you see online or in books and then at some point you can take some lessons too, you can learn from everywhere😊

The painting was very nice but the video would have been more useful if you had said why you made the choices you made and why you painted it the way you did.
Honestly, the reason most of the people in NYC don't come to talk to an artist on the street is that they saw and see two many of them. We are not at the time of De Kooning, Pollock, Motherwell, etc. On top, the city is filled with a lot of mediocre artists studying at SVA, the Art Students League, Cooper Union, National Academy. You can walk around NY with a violin case, a painting easel, or anything else...nobody is going to go WOW, are you an artist?! Unless is a tourist or a person who just arrived.
If everyone only did a hobby or a passion if they were as good as Da Vinci we would be a world full of Trump's, without the blessing from God, without joy. That's like saying no one should play a sport unless they are as good as A league players. Art lifts the soul and the human vibration. If it brings a person joy and peace who cares if they are good or not.
