On the surface, Vlad Plasmius might seem like just another nemesis for Danny Phantom to overcome. But in reality, there’s so much more to his character. In fact, Vlad turned out to have a heart that could love just as hard as it could hate, which was shown through the heartbreaking love story between Maddie and Vlad. That’s right, Vlad’s love for Maddie sort of hits differently as an adult, and even though Jack Fenton wasn’t necessarily the bad guy, he’s certainly the villain in Vlad’s story. Some would even say that he’s the man who destroyed Vlad’s life.

Do you remember the episode of Danny changing the past and Maddie marries Vlad instead? Well if she did, he would have suppressed her passion and she'd be less of herself than she would have with Jack
I remember that episode, She was much happier with Jack.
That might have been done for status quo is King. Plus it would have looked bad if Danny ruined a happy timeline.

@@JacobBuckett No he wouldn't. There was even an episode that showed what life would be like if Vlad and Maddie married and all Vlad did was treat Maddie like a prize that he won instead of an actual person. He even made her stop studying ghosts, which is something she loves to do.

Even as a kid Jack always struck me as someone who was a well meaning idiot.
to be fair jack did invent the ghost portal and at least some of the gadgets him and maddie use. that being said jack dyed a white streak into his hair as a show of solidarity with Vlad and accidently started a boyband jack might not always be be the most book smart guy but he has his moments and jack is honestly a pretty decent guy and aside from his ghost obsession you still gotta give some credit and respect for being willing to jump into the fray and fight ghosts that until fairly recently in the show were only theoretical.
the fact he has no problem staring down a ghost with what as far as he knows only works in theory or is unfinished and go on the offensive as well as trying to look after others, pretty sure in the few episodes where he is actively protecting others like when he was providing a ghost shield for casper high and a few other times he did that of his own free will and didn't even expect payment guy literally just said "I must protect everyone from the ghosts" the guy might be a bit dull as a sack of hammers at times stumble in social situations and fail at times but the guy has a big heart
Vlad is still terrible. In that alternate timeline Maddie literally turns on him for the half ghost version of Jack that blamed her for his accident the moment she found out there was a timeline where she wasn't married to Vlad.
Do you have any idea how much resentment someone has to have to turn against you after 2 decades of marriage?
To be fair she liked ghost stuff and Vlad wanted none of that. So maybe if the friendship did not end early on due to the accident and he gave the ghost stuff a try he would have been with her instead

When he had nothing left to hide behind, he could only face reality, and realized that at the end of the day, only he was to blame for his fate.
Even as a kid, that line hit hard. The one thing he wanted was Maddie's love, but when she died, he realized he could've let her just be happy even if she married someone else. And that, even though Jack had accidently damaged him, he was still well-intentioned and kind-hearted
Jack “ruined vlads life”….not….particularly,jack did give Vlad his powers but everything that made him him was his choice. He chose to not move on, he chose to take revenge on jack,he chose to associate with villains.
Yeah and Vlad chose to make his fortune by what was essentially thievery via ghost powers.
Yeah. I bet if written differently, Vlad could’ve chosen to forgive, tell Jack the truth and offer to train Danny.

It does not hit differently from me as an adult or child. Most of the fact that back then and now I see Vlad as a complete creep. Let’s not forget how he actually cloned Danny and attempt to create a perfecthalf ghost son. in the end, he got three imperfect clones and a clone daughter. and he was completely fine with breaking down the female one to see why she survived and why the others were less perfect.
That’s so sad…
The interesting thing about that is that Vlad wasn't that twisted at the beginning.
At the beginning, he welcomed others with a smile, was nice to Maddie's kids, and even connecting with Danny over shared interests. And when he discovered that Danny also was Half Ghost (Yet again, another vicitm of Jack's carelessness, at least from Vlad's perspective), he wanted to teach the kid and guide him so he could learn how to use his new powers.
As the story progressed, Vlad's mental state got worse and worse, which coincides with him being kicked down, beaten, used, etc, across the story.
It's possible that being constantly kicked down by life and rejected by those he really cared about, including Danny himself, ended driving him mad, turning in the Vlad we know of the last season.
I agree that his character is a complete irredeemable creep by the end. But something happened in the show. It's been a long while, but there was a creative change halfway through the show that changed several things. One of those changes was vlads personality and end goals.
They changed other stuff as well. Including what ghosts were. With Maddie initially calling ghosts "ectoplasm with post human conciousness". Later, this was retconned to parallel demension monsters.
@@KiaStout Ghosts weren't retconned. Both things can exist at the same time. You can have Ghosts that were people who for whatever reason after death their consciousness reformed into ghosts. But that doesn't preclude entities from forming out of the ectoplasm that didn't have consciouses that originated from humans. In fact if the former is true, then the latter also has to be true.

He doesn't love her, he's obsessed with her. Even in the altered time-line where he DOES end up married to Maddie, Maddie loves Jack more and Vlad was manipulating her all the time

I can't feel bad for Vlad. He may have gotten acne and lost his chance with the woman he loved; however, he decided to turn to crime all on his own. This guy was college educated. He did not have to be a criminal, but willingly choose to be one. I highly doubt Maddie would approve of how he got his wealth.
The biggest issue with this retelling is it uncritically indulges the false premise that Vlad operates under; that having feelings for someone makes you personally entitled to a relationship with them.
You cannot “steal” a person from someone because a person is not a possession, this way of thinking omits and blatantly disregards Maddie’s agency, it’s not Vlad or Jack who control the decision on who Maddie would love and marry, that’s a decision Maddie makes of her own volition based on who she loves.
The episode these flashback clips are from involves an alt future where Jack suffers the exact same accident instead of Vlad. In this timeline, once Vlad’s manipulation and Jack’s self loathing no longer keeps them apart, Maddie still loves and chooses Jack even though he’s a half ghost in this timeline.
The whole point of the episode is to deconstruct and disprove Vlad’s false belief the accident was what made Maddie love Jack instead of him, when it wasn’t.
It also demonstrated how unhappy Maddie would’ve been if she was in a relationship with Vlad and even clarified she was already in love with Jack before the accident happened, so Vlad was never her preferred choice irregardless of who the accident happened to.
All this is because Vlad can't have Jack's wife. Talk about being desperate.
That and being an ego maniac.

When Danny went back in time and changed history so Jack got ghost powers and Vlad got Maddie things weren’t right cause Maddie wasn’t happy in that marriage and had to hide her ghost studies and Jack wasn’t doing so good alone. So either way Vlad just made things worse for everyone. Really shows Jack and Maddie were made for each other.

"Lost"-- they were never dating in the first place, like you said. Vlad was not entitled to jackshit. Just a creep and a bad friend. Jack was probably the only one that tolerated Vlad in the first place since Vlad is awful. Even with his improved life he was still a miserable person.

Funnily enough, the episode with evil danny, we actually see future Vlad with literally nothing. His home destroyed, his powers gone, and everyone lost. At this point he was forced to come to terms with reality. He even admitted that he was foolish for holding that grudge. He realized what he could've rebuilt until it was long gone.
Yeah...some things about this i disagreed with. If the man went on one date with Maddie things would have been different. But that never happened.
The man had choices. He could have reached out to Jake and Maddie but that didn't happen. He was a megalomaniac and the dude needed to date other women. Wouldn't have been hard

3:20 you realize the vlad was the one who leaned in closer to the portal as it was opening, so I'm not blaming jack entirely.
I recently learned that Vlad's appearance & some of his personality traits were partially modeled after a successful owner of a pub(I forgot its name but that's not important) in Roseville, Michigan who was actually the best friend of both Butch Hartman's parents in college. Butch never revealed his name likely out of respect for the guy but I understand. He had a huge crush on Butch's mother though I don't blame her because she was pretty popular in college. And Butch made some changes and thought of men who were much more sadistic and crazy than that man. XD Also, for the record, he and Butch's father remained best friends until the man's death in late 2019.
I don't think jack is blameless in making vlad what he is, but as the characters consistently point out, it was still a horrible accident, and Jack had no malicious intentions with it.

No, ultimately people are responsible for their own actions. Yes someone else might interfere or get in the way, but your choices are your own. Vlad choose to prioritize his own fortune and self. Vlad choose to cut ties during the ecto-acne incident and lost contact with Maddie due to his own choices. Finally all three of them, Jack, Vlad and Maddie all built that portal together. Sure some of Jack's calculations were off, but before that last second catch by Maddie all three of them were clearly convinced that it would work. So Jack turns it on because he's very excited, Vlad looks in as closely as possible and Maddie is looking at things again. Then boom things go wrong.
Also, if Vlad never so much as dated Maddie, then she was just a crush and he's owed nothing due to liking someone. I had plenty of crushes growing up, but none of them were owed to me.

Amazing how Vlad is so obsessed with Maddie. When you know he had the time and money to adopt. Using that would have gotten him kids of his own. Why take away someone else's "Happily Ever After fairy tale story." So to speak when Vlad again has all the time and money.

It was an accident. Still Vlad is a sick stalker to Maddie. Maddie does not want him.
Uhhh, there was an episode where Jack became a ghost instead of Vlad. Vlad was still a horrible person despite being married to Maddie, Maddie was miserable, and Jack (while sad) was still a good person and used his powers for good. Vlad was the problem, not Jack.
People need to understand Maddie was never interested in Vlaad. This is why I sort of dismiss this. Even in the alternative universe Maddie realized she loved Jack.
The episode masters of all time shows that the spike jack being an idiot. He’s a well-meaning one in the timeline where Jack gets ghost powers. He wants to be a hero and didn’t work because he started out on Halloween. Vlad used it to steel and it shows that he and Maddie don’t have a happy marriage gives the question of does he love her as a person or love someone like an object was a fan question before this episode
That does explains a lot. I mean Vlad wasn't always a villian. He was a best friend and was jealous of Jack since he was in love with Maddie. But then Jack accidently used the prototype ghost portal and turned Vlad into a monster, causing them to break up their friendship for good. So it felt like Jack should've apologize to Vlad for what he did which might take some time before Vlad became a villain
I like the fanfics where Danny and Vlad are friends. They bond and Vlad takes Danny under his wing and shows him how to use his ghost powers.
And considering Danny’s parents are scientist. These same fanfics do a story line of Danny’s parents wanting to eliminate him once they find out he’s a ghost and Vlad protecting him. It’s heartbreaking but a great story.
Vlad and Jack are, in a way, both the villain in vlads story. In the ultimate enemy, vlad admits to himself that he was a fool for seeking revenge in the timeline where Jack was a ghost Jack tried to be a superhero and vlad lied to Maddie about Jack blaming her for the accident that gave vlad and Jack powers. He always had a evil side
Vlad has superpowers and millions of dollars. His life was not ruined.
Exactly he had the money and the time. He could have adopted a couple of kids.
His simping over Maddie was the problem.
To be fair, I’m pretty sure if my best friend cared so little about my personal safety. And as a result infected me with a terrible disease that technically had no cure (and the only way through was to hope your body just fights through it). And then I had to spend YEARS of the most valuable part of my adulthood, bedridden in a hospital not know if I’d make it, and the friend who put me there didn’t come visit/ gave me some bs nonchalant apology. I would at least consider a large chunk of my life physically, and psychologically ruined and unsalvageable-BECAUSE IT IS. Just because it worked out well FINANCIALLY for vlad much latter in his life doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt him at all. I mean he’s literally unhinged as a person in current canon compared to how he was in the college flash backs. Don’t get me wrong, everything he does to handle his past grief at the time and health he lost as a result of Jack, is his responsibility and the crazy nutbar things he does was not an appropriate way to handle it.
But to behave like Jack didn’t wrong him and “it’s ok to harm people as long as they end up seemingly alright on the outside”. Is an Unnuanced and weird conclusion to come to.
Kind feel bad for him, but at the same time not so much. He could have done anything with those powers or even moved on from Maddie. But kept wallowing in the fact Jack married her instead. But this also has me wondering what would have happened to Jack and Vlad if Maddie was the one who got infected instead of Vlad?
Vlad is the kinda dude who's parents gave him everything but love and he just thinks anything he points at he's entitled to ,dudes a week he doesn't deserve love atleast if your going after a woman make sure she's smart and hot maddie was smart and that's it .

Vlad is a creep going after Jack’s girlfriend/wife. He literally latched onto bitterness instead of trying to keep a good life. He obsesses over the things money can’t get him

Vlad was responsible for his choices following the incident-but, Jack is 100% at fault for what happened, he ruined Vlad’s life, not just that, but if the ghost portal hadn’t just so happened to have had the right energy coming out of it, he WOULD have killed him, realistically he should’ve been in jail for it, as you said, he had an utter disregard for lab safety procedure that Maddie witnessed and could be easily extrapolated as manslaughter by gross negligence. Wanting Maddie was a petty thing, and I think what could’ve made him a genuinely much more terrifying rather than just major creep villain would have been if he instead wanted revenge for being literally killed. His resurrection as a half ghost was pure luck, Jack got off Scott-free for basically killing his best friend.
I am not defending Vlad nor Jack. However the choices Vlad and Jack made is how we decide who is the victim and who is to blame. Jack, yes is the cause of Vlad turning into a ghost. However we don’t hear the AFTER of the accident. My theory is that I believe Jack and Maddie TRIED talking or even seeing Vlad. But Vlad made the choice to deny both. And I am sure neither Maddie nor Jack stop. They probably did whatever they could to even just say “I’m Sorry…” but Vlad still refused to see them. And I think that was around the time Vlad was discovering the benefits of having the said “cursed” ghost powers Jack, turned him to having, that is when Jack and Maddie got married. And I think Vlad was so focused on his ghost powers to even see an invitation. And by the time Vlad probably made his first success, Vlad finally saw years had gone by and Jack and Maddie were married. That might have been when Vlad became bitter. Yes, Jack takes 60% of the blame, but Vlad made the choice not to see either or even Jack. So, I think both Vlad and Jack are responsible for the events. But Jack chose when and accept what happened was an accident but he still held onto Vlad for he owe it to Vlad to say he was sorry. But when in Danny Phantom “Forever Phantom Planet” Vlad still acted like a victim and even wanted Jack to suffer by taking Maddie. All this happened over a girl that is what burns me but then again…it wouldn’t be a story if not having a love triangle…still I felt bad for Vlad but his choices don’t do him justice either.
Jack may be foolish, But Vlad and Matty. seem like the more messed up of the 3. Vlad is petty creep that couldn't even see the girl he loved, wanted nothing to do with him.
And though I like Matty. After watching that wilderness episode and that time traveling episode to cure Vlad. She just seemed off to me, from that point on... even though she was still the loving mother character we all knew.
Would of been interesting to see her life before Jack and Vlad. and how she got just has ghost crazy has them.

What about the episode "Masters of All Time"? Danny changed the past so that Vlad never got caught in the accident and married Maddie. Though they seemed happy, she was still passionate about ghosts while Vlad suppressed her enthusiasm. It proved that Maddie and Jack were meant for each other.
Vlad cut off all contact. And was left to stew in his own anger and shortcomings. Jack was clearly hurt that his friend never spoke to him after the incident. Was actually glad that after several years . His former best freind wanted to reconnect. Jack appreciated having his freind back Blindly supporting him. It took vlad betraying the entire planet for Jack to finally renounce vlad.
While one can definitely blame the incident on Jack recklessness. Everything after vlad stop all contact is on himself. His inability to let go of his anger. Instead choosing to abuse his new powers . Which he wouldn’t have if it weren’t for Jack.
This might be odd to compare, but it does seem similar to Doctor Doom and Reed Richards, since Reed pointed out an error in an experiment Doom was conducting, Doom ignored Reed's warning and proceeded with the experiment, Doom almost dies in the accident, and Doctor Doom blamed and accused Reed Richards for what had happened as Doom hides his face under that mask ever since.
I mean i just took it up as it was maddie's choice it didnt matter who got blasted.
As comicbook fams can recognize the whole sceen was directly inspired by doctor doom's origins, in college when reed created a mini portal anf exploded on victor's face desfigurating him so he puts his icon mask after the incident

Well, we did see Maddie married to Vlad once when Danny tried to change the past. Vlad proved himself to be a more toxic husband to her by forcing her to give up her passions and manipulates her into hating Jack. Even then, she had affections for Jack. And I think the fact that she had kids with Jack and not Vlad says a lot about the difference there. Either they're not as close as Vlad believes they are, or he controlled that too. The fact that she was so generous and considerate to Danny before even learning of the alternate timeline tells me she did want kids, but she didn't get to have any with Vlad.
Blame and project his sins upon Jack to justify the sins he learned due to the public rejection and sudden loneliness.
No he would have still become evil because even without his ghost powers he became a controlling manipulative monster my belief is he would have made aome excusw to keep jack away ghost powers or no ghost powers

Jack Fenton's carelessness not only turned Vlad into a half ghost but his son. Jack never learned anything making him the real villain.
Although neither of them ever told Jack that they had become ghosts because of his actions. You can't really learn anything if nobody tells you to squat and deliberately keep you ignorant of important facts.
While you can blame jack for vlad’s transformation, Danny transformed because Sam encouraged to look inside the portal and he accidentally hit the on button.

I don't think Jack is as oblivious as he's made out to be. Yes he's an idiot who accidentally ruined Vlad's life, but he realized that. He admitted the accident was his fault and he does see that Vlad is cold and somewhat harsh to him. I think he intentionally takes that cruelty and remains a loyal friend to him because he sees it as a punishment he deserves. He wants to atone for causing the accident that Jack caused and unknowingly gave Vlad is ghost powers. While Jack is responsible for the accident, he's also trying his hardest to make up for it. As for marrying Maddie, I understand Vlad's anger, but she is obviously happy with the marriage and even has kids in it so you can't fault Jack there. An idiot, but a good husband and father but Vlad didn't care about that part.
is Jaz actually Jacks child she looks nothing like him and in the first episode he was in Maddie was far to comfortable with Vlad for not seeing him for years and they don't seem to have a job that pays so how do they have the house and lab.
Vlad Masters is definitely a creep, but I think it’s overlooked at what bad friends Maddy and Jack were to him. Jack of course caused the accident that technically killed Vlad and lead him down the path of evil, but it’s proven that Maddie was cool emotionally manipulating him. It’s unclear on details but they both never reached out to him for years post accident despite him being rich and fairly well known. I don’t want to defend Vlad, he owns his own obsession with revenge on Jack, but the Fentons made it easy for him to become who the evil creep he was. If all 3 of them were better people Vlad might not be a villain and that makes his character pretty nuanced.

Vlad is a prime example of both "a life-changing event" and "power corrupts"
Due to jacks disregard of both his friends, he causes one of his friends to have a "lab accident" this was no doubt a live changing event for vlad, one that made him to be upset and resent Jack and his disregard of his friends.
Vlad had to put his science career on hold so he can focus on getting control of these new powers.
But since vlad stop doing science with his friends, they bonded alone enough to fall in love and get married.
Something that causes vlad to resent jack even more.
Overtime vlad's isolation causes him to get more and more obsessed with his powers and his resentment to Jack.
Which in turn causes him to be corrupted by his powers more and more.
I firmly believe that if the "lab accident" didn't occur.
vlad could have got together with her but even if she still married jack, vlad would have gotten over his crush and just stay as friends.
Maybe vlad would have moved on to find another girl who knows.
Tldr, vlad suffered a life changing event that caused him to forgo his future in science and his new found powers and isolation caused him to go further and further downhill with his mind stuck in the past to before the "lab accident" back before his life went downhill.
