Excellent. His more intense style fits like a glove, not to mention he's not half as lazy as Lars is. Love the quick double bass runs and everything he does in the "Die by my hand" part. Forget your prejudice against Slipknot and know how to spot a great drummer, people.
This really takes some fucking balls. To have such confidence in your own musicianship that you put your own spin on a classic song while playing for one of the world's biggest rock bands live and still pull it off, Joey is one of the best drummers ever!
Joey isn't much better than Lars. Lars is a better song writer than Joey, and doesn't play like him because that has never been Metallica's sound. Slipknot is MUCH faster than most Metallica therefore Joey is a faster drummer. Not a lot of Metallica songs use rapid double bass fills whereas almost every slipknot song does. An "actual drummer" is Dave Lombardo. THE best metal drummer out there, after that Nick Menza R.I.P.
Trying playing this shit normal speed when you are Joey playing with the freaking LEGENDS at a huge show with your adrenaline pumping so much because you don't ever play shows with METALLICA.
Es admirable lo que hizo Joey esa noche terminó de tocar con Slipknot y fue llamado por James para que tocará con ellos, fue y la rompió sin dudas un animal en la batería un talentosisimo baterista!
Honestly, I adore Lars and his drumming. But... just... WOW. I wonder if Mr. Ulrich can watch this without hanging his head? I suppose having an Italian marble tile floor that cost $300,000 in front of your toilet makes the view a bit better when you hang your head in shame.
Holy Devil That's an odd thing to say... I saw Metallica ten times, and he never missed a note. Was I as blown away by his skill or creativity as witnessing Danny Carey or Joey Jordison play? Not remotely. He's still a great drummer. There's a lot of space between "one of the best" and "totally sucks ass" and I'd rank Lars right in that space... Is he one of the best ever? No. Does he totally suck ass? I don't think so, and if you do, that's just fine. **shrugs**
Magnus Fischer There are videos made on him failing hard. He doesn't totally suck ass but for a man who has played for over 30 years, he should be better.
It's his fucking band, the writer of Master of Puppets and all that shit. He deserves much more respect than he gets. In fact, almost every Metallica song was arranged by Lars - he's the best drummer for Metallica. He's not the fastest nor most technical drummer, but as I said - it's his band and his genius inspired Joey himself, Mike Portnoy and many others.
That's the drummer they deserve, Lars was always the weakest link, or maybe he was just too lazy to practice. I bet they regret not firing him back in the 80's, I know I do.
Supposedly they would've fired him if it wasn't for Burton's death. Who knows..? www.blabbermouth.net/news/kirk-hammett-admits-metallica-thought-about-firing-lars-ulrich/
Concreto1984 man, you should really go back and listen to the 80s Metallica albums. Puppets, Justice..good god!!! Lars playing is fucking awesome...he's slowed down a bit now no doubt..but Jordison, with all due respect, would NOT be a good metalli-fit
No disrespect to JJ, I think he is a great drummer, but he is completely over playing this song. There is such a thing as "doing too much." Kinda takes away from the feel and emotion of the song itself.
True, but I kind of enjoyed it because it's something different from what Lars plays. It's just nice for a cool live performance you know? It's not the actual studio song.
the point of having a guest musician appear in a song is not to have them come in and play the same exact song as it is on the record. they have them come in to bring who they are as a musician into it. with that said this song was recorded near joey and you arent hearing what the crowd was hearing where everyone was most likely mic'd to perfection. you hear them going crazy? i bet that sounded awesome live.
There is no Metallica without Lars... He is probably the most creative guy on the band. Yes Joey 's performance is really awesome, but come on mate, metal isn't just about double kick with 180 bpm ;)
Am I the only one here who prefers Lars' original version than Joey;s. I mean c'mon, just because Joey plays faster and has more double bass doesn't necessarily make it better.
Funny how all the metallica fans and slayer fans are hating on joey. Metallica and Slayer are both shit now haha!! It's the truth... Slayer release the same fuckin album and Metallica haven't released a Thrash album since 80's!
Lol. Nruh, Mustaine is a fucking god with the lead guitar, but he's voice has decayed beyond repair. Lars sucks big fat balls and Kirk abuses from the wah tooo much, but Rob is one of the best bassits of the genre and James is doing a pretty good job forma 50 year old man.
It's not that slipknot sucks, it's the fans. Most Slipknot fans are 14 years old who think that everyone listens to music on the radio and preach that they're the greatest metal band in the world. To me they're alright. But yeah I am one of those people who thinks that both Slayer and Metallica are good bands. Still.
And also your argument doesn't make any sense, but its true that ¨Slayer release the same fuckin album and Metallica haven't released a Thrash album since 80’s!¨ But if Metallica continued on making thrash albums then they would be in the same spot like is right now slayer. Right?
Considering Joey was playing it for the first time I think he did a good job, even if it fails in some parts, but nothing of so weak. Great killing performance and awesome foot job ;)
Lars was sick. But this was such a good concert, my ex had such a big crush on Lars and would have sobbed if she had never seen him, but luckily we had seen them TWICE at Dublin RDS and Earl's Court in 2003.
I don't like Slipknot but have a lot of respect for getting up there and saving the day. Even Lombardo couldn't touch Jordison that night. That says a ton.
people should stop hating on the drumming when the guitars dont sound too shabby themselves in this performance, as well as many of metallica's from past years.
I just read about him and this gig from the drummer magazine. He was asked to play with metallica but he didnt even have any time to practice all the 9 songs. How could he play them so well?
Joey is so cute! he's very small and adorable. when he became a part of sliknot he was only 20. Dont forget he also can play guitar as well, he is fucking amazing. the love of my life
No less, I´m PORTUGUESE, I play drumms for 10years, and 0ne thing I am sure...It´s not easy to copy Lars, he is very fast even now, and Joey has a different style, he´s from another "school"...But, the most important is the fact that great bands play covers from METALLICA..It´s a lot of respect
I think playing my bass with Joey Jordison or Lars Ulrich would improve my pattern and rhythm so much. That would be a beast ass dream come true though :)
I like how Joey puts his own style of playing in this song
I love how throughout the song, Joey starts making the beat more of his own. So amazing
Excellent. His more intense style fits like a glove, not to mention he's not half as lazy as Lars is. Love the quick double bass runs and everything he does in the "Die by my hand" part. Forget your prejudice against Slipknot and know how to spot a great drummer, people.
The Dullahan you are exactly right. Man he hits those drums hard
RIP
Lars is three times lazier and a hundred times worse than joey. RIP legend
This really takes some fucking balls. To have such confidence in your own musicianship that you put your own spin on a classic song while playing for one of the world's biggest rock bands live and still pull it off, Joey is one of the best drummers ever!
this was just like. warm up for joey haha
JOEY FUCKING KILLED IT
FUCK YOUR OPINION
HELL FUCKING YES!!! :-))))
Evgeniy Khryashkov
fuck yeah this is so awesome, like a breath of fresh air, like to see him so a full set with the Tallica boys
joey will elevated metalica to another level!
Seeing all of these Lars haters makes me think Joey should actually join the band.
My niggah!
R.i.p
@@miguelrestrepo5886 broke my heart into pieces hearing the news. Still can’t believe it.
@@miguelrestrepo5886 my favorite drummer of all time
its just an honor to be up there playing. whomever it is. joey did an amazing job.
4:20 Make Lars hear you!
-JOEY!
-JOEY!
-JOEY!
-JOEY!
-JOEY!
It's really awkward and at the same time happy to listen creeping death on time
I like that Joey did the original drum roll at the beginning
take note lars. this is what happens when an actual drummer sits at your kit.
+Ben T lmao are you completely stupid Lars smokes him any day. Take away joey's hydraulic petals and give him mechanical pedals and see
... He sat on Lars' kit and played better than Lars has in two decades. What the fuck dude. I can't even..
+Ben T he's fucking old dude
Joey isn't much better than Lars. Lars is a better song writer than Joey, and doesn't play like him because that has never been Metallica's sound. Slipknot is MUCH faster than most Metallica therefore Joey is a faster drummer. Not a lot of Metallica songs use rapid double bass fills whereas almost every slipknot song does. An "actual drummer" is Dave Lombardo. THE best metal drummer out there, after that Nick Menza R.I.P.
Wrong, this comment proves most metal stereotypes hahahah elitism is not in fashion mate.
we all agree Metallica sounds 4xheavy w. Joey
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! That was amazingly better! Breath of fresh air
Lars' character adds to the attitude and chemistry, but Joey was fucking surgical. Awesome!
Trying playing this shit normal speed when you are Joey playing with the freaking LEGENDS at a huge show with your adrenaline pumping so much because you don't ever play shows with METALLICA.
I like this camera angle. It kinda shows what the drummer and the other band members see on stage...
Amazing.
too good for metalica
holy shit with the dubble bass joey does it sounds fucking god
Es admirable lo que hizo Joey esa noche terminó de tocar con Slipknot y fue llamado por James para que tocará con ellos, fue y la rompió sin dudas un animal en la batería un talentosisimo baterista!
Man I was there, the last time the uk ever saw Dime Bag Darrel :(
Man I wish i could have been at download 2004 I would be -1 years old hahahah
amazing how bigger they sound with jordy! that drum kit can do a lot more! lars... emm... lars... larsss!????
Joeys Double Bass Skills are just amazing.
you know.. that guy from star trek.. haha!
joey did a great job adding his flavor to this song. very well done indeed!
Honestly, I adore Lars and his drumming. But... just... WOW. I wonder if Mr. Ulrich can watch this without hanging his head? I suppose having an Italian marble tile floor that cost $300,000 in front of your toilet makes the view a bit better when you hang your head in shame.
+Magnus Fischer Joey is nothing compared to Lars.
LMAO ^^^
Maybe, but him not being able to play well and forgetting parts begs to differ.
**shrugs**

el dia que metallica tuvo baterista..!!!
jjajajajajaja muy buena
I was there and he and Dave saved the show, it was epic.
Quem dera ver um show completo do Metallica com esse monstro na bateria! :}}} Vai Lars, se aposenta. hehehehhe
awwwww all the fanboys defending lars ulrich because they are totally incompetent when it comes to music and talent.
its so cute :3
Lars is shit, but his simpler style fits this music better.
I remember reading about joey having played for metallica after the concert. Never thought I'd get to see it tho, thanks internets!
Replace Lars With Joey Jordison and Have Lars Handle The Business Side Of Metallica.
I'll give you the bidniss
PERSONAL OPINION: Lars was OK till 1991 , after that METALLICA had to kick him out
cause he killed the band ....
U're right
It's his fucking band, the writer of Master of Puppets and all that shit. He deserves much more respect than he gets. In fact, almost every Metallica song was arranged by Lars - he's the best drummer for Metallica. He's not the fastest nor most technical drummer, but as I said - it's his band and his genius inspired Joey himself, Mike Portnoy and many others.
I think Joey really loved this gig. After all, we all grew up listening to Metallica, and was an honour to replace Lars in this one!!
Double bass Rulez!
juan harb right but so enjoyed to play
Fire Lars and hire Jordison!
+Kakaroti lets be more kind and make lars producer of metallica and hire dave lombardo... DL would fit there better than JJ
jordison is slipnits drummer
+Mute Kill3r not anymore
oh lol.
When old school meets new school.... He didn't get the best drummer award for no reason
Joey is really amazing, but imagine with Gene Hoglan ;)
That's the drummer they deserve, Lars was always the weakest link, or maybe he was just too lazy to practice. I bet they regret not firing him back in the 80's, I know I do.
Supposedly they would've fired him if it wasn't for Burton's death.
Who knows..?
www.blabbermouth.net/news/kirk-hammett-admits-metallica-thought-about-firing-lars-ulrich/
No Jason? Oh darn...
Concreto1984 man, you should really go back and listen to the 80s Metallica albums. Puppets, Justice..good god!!! Lars playing is fucking awesome...he's slowed down a bit now no doubt..but Jordison, with all due respect, would NOT be a good metalli-fit
yoey your the best drummer I ever heard!!!
Estaba tocando en modo fácil :v
He is actually better than Lars....
Jeremy Hilton ofc he is lol
Jeremy Zombie Dad ........he is, but so are most beginning drummers.
Its a fans dream come true he must have been so happy to play with those guys.
Is it just me or Joey speeds it too much? He looses the beat at some points too. Maybe is good for fast drumming, but not for this song like this.
In fact, i would really want to see him *try* to play "Still loving you" from Scorpions.
James can downpick fast enough.
I do believe the losing time was Joey playing to the album version and the rest of the band playing to Lars' constant mistakes ;-)
Actually he is bang on tempo, they aren't :)
Maybe he's nervous for playing with his idols
Lars' bass drums have never been played like that lol.
Only once before then, but definitely never again lol
Joey! Joey! Joey! BEST DRUMMER OF THE WORLD!
It's not the actual studio song.
yeah man but some of us are sick and tired of hearing the same beat in every song of metallica.
Agree
the point of having a guest musician appear in a song is not to have them come in and play the same exact song as it is on the record. they have them come in to bring who they are as a musician into it. with that said this song was recorded near joey and you arent hearing what the crowd was hearing where everyone was most likely mic'd to perfection. you hear them going crazy? i bet that sounded awesome live.
This is what we call "adding your own style". If someone likes it or not, it's a personal preference. But it's Joey's style all over.
A new drummer would make Metalllica relevant again in my opinion, Lars is as washed up as they come.
Dude fck yes
He's just a little troll!
There is no Metallica without Lars... He is probably the most creative guy on the band. Yes Joey 's performance is really awesome, but come on mate, metal isn't just about double kick with 180 bpm ;)
+Zpwslayer UUUUM give a listen to the whole death magnetic album ITS FUCKING THRASH
That double bass fills are too raw! I cant listen to the original without hearing them now
better tan Lars
Am I the only one here who prefers Lars' original version than Joey;s. I mean c'mon, just because Joey plays faster and has more double bass doesn't necessarily make it better.
That's the point: faster, more double bass, it means more technique, and so it means he is a lot better.
He did overdo it, but he is DEFINITELY a better drummer than Lars. Then again, it's not that hard to be better than Lars. ;)
I'm even better than Lars and I don't play drums from two years now LOL
agree
+Zachary Trent because you hane never heard that ib Metallica's songs that's it
That's when old school meets new school..... He didn't get the best drummer award for no reason....
Funny how all the metallica fans and slayer fans are hating on joey.

does people realize how bad is this?
No but people realize how bad your English is :D
Not as bad as Lars is nowadays
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
I JUST SPILLED MY WATER
Considering Joey was playing it for the first time I think he did a good job, even if it fails in some parts, but nothing of so weak.
Great killing performance and awesome foot job ;)
Oh god, I've forgotten how well does Joey play the drums... Epic!
Yawn! Joey Jordison is way too over rated...
yeah almost as over rated as lars
ouch!goatinstein
Lars is possibly one of the worst ever Metal drummers imo
Oh, yeah....that's why Metallica invited him and Lombardo to play with them. Good logic.
MrSatanochio Yes, great logic indeed! Over rated drummers playing with an over rated band...
that man is one of the greatest drummers ever
YOUNG James - rhytm
Dime Darrel - lead
Lemmy - vocals
Cliff - Bass
Joey - drums
the dream team to play tallica live
wow that was amazing i love the way he does the bridge
Nicely done by Joey! I like how he put his style of drumming into Metallica's flow of music.
Lars was sick. But this was such a good concert, my ex had such a big crush on Lars and would have sobbed if she had never seen him, but luckily we had seen them TWICE at Dublin RDS and Earl's Court in 2003.
Joey brings a very garage style sound very tight snares and unbelievably smooth beats. Don't forget without a drummer the song has no backbone.
i dont really listen to this type of music but when joey is drumming it sounds better to me!!!
Didn't they record this set? Release it as an official release already! We need to hear this properly!
James+Mustaine+Burton+Jordison=Really Perfect
Watching Joey play drums is like somebody pushed the fast forward button damn he's feet r fast. awesome video
I don't like Slipknot but have a lot of respect for getting up there and saving the day. Even Lombardo couldn't touch Jordison that night. That says a ton.
Joey's heart must pace like a hummingbird
people should stop hating on the drumming when the guitars dont sound too shabby themselves in this performance, as well as many of metallica's from past years.
Playing Creeping Death.... LIKE A BOSS.
finally a video where everyone appreciates all artists? am i fucking dreaming? who's trolling me? this cannot be real!
he is amazing.
I wish they had more videos from this cam with Joey and Metallica.
Joey Rocks!!!!Really fast double kick.1 of the fastest drummers in the world!
I just read about him and this gig from the drummer magazine.
He was asked to play with metallica but he didnt even have any time to practice all the 9 songs. How could he play them so well?
soo much energy gotta love that
Joey is so cute! he's very small and adorable. when he became a part of sliknot he was only 20.
Dont forget he also can play guitar as well, he is fucking amazing.
the love of my life
I WAS THERE!!!! 2 hour wait worthwhile..........1 hour rehearse, then the main stage, headlining last night...Joey's got balls, 3:38 insane!
joey speed + lars creative = total drumer of metal
I don't care about any comparisons. This guy fuckn kicks ass on this song! Killer drummer.
What a machine. Love you Joey
Like fastest drumming machine... Joey is the best drummer on earth.
Joey , you are a legend. I love you :)
@jonasws2 James Hetfield: rhythm guitar
Dave Mustaine: Vocal and guitar (Solos)
Joey Jordison: Drums
AND BASS: Cliff Burton -.- RIP
JOEY IS WHAT METALLICA NEEDS
this song sounds soo great with that double bass :D
both are talented....and amazing
I see it now for the hundredth time and I'm still excited...
Sorry Lars
BOTH Lars and Joey are the sickest! \m/
That's the best that song has EVER been played!
What a beast of a drummer
Like it or not, it took some balls to play Metallica in his style in front of thousands of Metallica fans... Fucking epic performance
I bet joey was having a blast playing with Metallica! \m/
I'm not a fan of Slipknot, but credit to Joey here, he nailed this song! Played it like the original...which Lars doesn't!
You are my idol .. You are the best drummer
love the speed, tempo stable...
Love how his snare sounds!!
No less, I´m PORTUGUESE, I play drumms for 10years, and 0ne thing I am sure...It´s not easy to copy Lars, he is very fast even now, and Joey has a different style, he´s from another "school"...But, the most important is the fact that great bands play covers from METALLICA..It´s a lot of respect
yoey jour the best drummer I ever heard!!!
I think playing my bass with Joey Jordison or Lars Ulrich would improve my pattern and rhythm so much. That would be a beast ass dream come true though :)
yeah i was there man, good times!
