Yes your right, I never understood why some khmer diaspora make fun of other Cambodian American/ diaspora who can’t speak khmer language well. The haters are just making the Khmer people born or grew up abroad not want to learn or speak khmer even more if they shame them for not speaking khmer well.

@@tainanking if you were a kid during the Khmer Rouge era and are born in the refugee camp then most of them do not know how to read or write khmer because pol pot did not gave those children no school to learn to read and write, also in the refugee camps they taught the children how to speak English. So most of the second generation khmer-American children’s of refugees parents can’t speak clearly or read /write unless their parents put them in khmer class in America.

I had the same experience visiting Srok Khmer for the first time after 40 plus years being in the States. It was awkward at first speaking Khmer but after a few days of hearing everyone around you speaking Khmer, you start to become more comfortable. And you’re right Savi, Khmer people are so warm and accepting. I was criticized more in the States for my accent than in Srok Khmer. 😅

I worked at the seaport there at late 1979 after surviving the brutal Khmer Rouge in Pursat and most of my family members did not survive. Snookyville was like a ghost town as I was a first team to work there as the Cargo Controller . The city was in ruins with collapsed building destroyed by Pol Pot before they left the city. Only memory lives on as I had returned before the COVID to find my old friends who worked there. Peace out!

You’re right 😂 As a Khmer from Long Beach, these old folks always make fun of us “ How are you a Cambodian child, but don’t know how to speak Khmer”, “You’re not a real Khmer” We have no schools here to teach us Khmer. We knew how to speak when we were young a little but then the education here teaches English and other language but not Khmer. We don’t have much Khmer learning resources here & most of us are neglected as a child, parents don’t really conversate with us, don’t bring us to the temples to learn our culture, and not much guidance overall. But now that I’m older, I’ve been self teaching myself the Khmer language, dharma, & history. I know my alphabets now and read Khmer in Kindergarden level 😂 Learning new words and understanding my parents more & more 😂 I can’t believe I grew up calling my dad “Via” which means It, all my life 😂😂😂 and calling my older brother “Ah Oun” 😂😂😂 and who knows maybe my mom will stop hitting me once I know more vegetable words 😂 watching you try made me wanna try harder. Love your channel, keep uploading more please 💕🇰🇭

These people prop you up when you’re successful but when people fail they knock them down even more and at other times they just mindlessly say things just to hurt others. These are the ones from the old society that ruined the Cambodian culture in the past. Sorry for the rant. Bottom line is keep doing what you love. A lot of them will say the same thing to the Cambodians in southern Vietnam known as the Khmer Krom people of An Giang, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, & etc. Khmers in cambodia like to discriminate against their own people, which is sad.

I wouldn’t call it discrimination but not being aware of your situation and not having the luxury to travel beyond their villages. Sihanoukville is a horrible place. It’s made out of money laundered. They did this in Laos as well. A city called Botan which is now deserted because of its super illegal activity. Chinese will spring these types of places out everywhere in Southeast Asia for their citizens to go launder their money and for criminals to continue their enterprises. Recently a lot of Taiwanese and tigers were trafficked to Sihanouk in the previous years but I heard they’ve been cleaning it up somewhat.

I just don’t understand why they’re doing that? Non of them are being honest when it come to money. Just like the charge the white more than the Khmer in anything and everything, Sounds bad but it is true. 1 example river front boat ride Khmer $1, white and tourist who isn’t Khmer $5.00. That is totally unfair in my opinion. In the USA 🇺🇸 here we only has one price for All. Anyway thanks for the video. My husband and I loved watching your channel👍🙏

Savi, watch Chinese construction to see how long it lasts before you pray for them. I watched RUclips about Chinese dam construction in Pakistan, Bolivia, African countries. After 4 months the dam wall cracked and after several years later, the dam stops function. It is a disaster. Don't say "American construction is worst than China". American construction is the best in the World. It builds to last. One of my Cambodian civil engineer in America supervised the road construction. He will test the compact soil that private contractor just finished it with a nuclear device. If the soil is not compacted to meet the standard, he asked the contractor to add more soil and redo it again. I don't blame you not to speak Khmer well because you live in White majority town. My kids who are born in US speak broken Khmer too. So, don't feel bad. When my kids grow older in college, they start to interest learning Khmer language. Khmer community is not strong as other groups like Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Vietnamese. We don't fight for Khmer language recognition in public places in America.

Most us highways are good in the US but search pennsylvania highways you'll see...they are some of the worst. But i agree, let's see how long the chinese built highway lasts.

How much did you pay for your feet and hands?
Please don’t tell me $50 all up
You didn’t even get them panted nail polish 💅 ?😂
Serious it should only be a few dollars at the most, for massages the girls will come to your hotel room and it doesn’t even cost nearly as much!
But you have to give them Khmer $2000 $3000 rels for the ride back home
Only a few dollars at front of the shops I use to get mind done but that was years ago not even a dollar $1 💵

That is not how it work. Most of the time the parents speak to their kids in khmer but the kids reply back in English. The kids end up understanding to hear khmer language perfectly but they can’t speak khmer correctly because they talk in English most of the time. 😅
