You have done the best job at elucidating Heidegger than anyone else on RUclips! 👍 Wish Heidegger had been able to express himself as clearly and effectively as you do.
19:20 holy shit this was crazy to watch because for the past few months i've really shifted my perspective on what existence means and subconsciously i started to live every moment always keeping in mind the fact that i could die at any moment so i could technically do whatever i want (not in an evil way lol) and that really liberated me from a lot of societal pressure and expectations on what i'm supposed to do and watching this concept 'being toward death' actually existing and being thought out by someone other than me is so comforting😭 like yay i'm not crazy. also the readiness-to-hand and present-at-hand concept reminds me of something alan watts talked about regarding our consciousness, he said there was spotlight effect consciousness and flood-like effect consciousness which really is a similar concept to heidegger's so that's really cool. these concepts have made me so hyperaware of my reality that i feel like i'm in a videogame.
Im so glad you posted this! On of the greatest thinkers in todays world of neuroscience, psychology, philosophy and sociology, Iain McGilchrist, frequently mentions him as one of his greatest and most favorite philosophers. I knew nothing of him. Now i do. Thank you.
An fine exposition of Being and Time by Heidegger ! I worked through that book with a brilliant mentor over the course of I year; just an incredible learning experience. Great job! Charles
Anyone who has suffered through Being and Time knows that Heidegger's approach is utterly abstruse, at times inscrutable, as he talks in the vaguest of terms around and aboout the most important questions of human existence without ever addressing them directly. His Catholic upbringing hobbled Heidegger by making him averse to metaphysics and to everything even potentially religious in nature. He posits history as "the home of Being," yet omits from his philosophy the profoundest influences upon history since antiquity. In brief, Martin Heidegger's views on God, the soul, life after death, and transmigration of souls are conspicuous by their absence, leaving his forlorned readers to cope, alone, in a darkling vacant hellish landscape devoid of hope.
Excellent capsule summary of some key takeaways of Heidegger's musings. I especially like that you seem to explain the essence of phenomenology without using the term. Recommendation: you are more likely to increase subscriptions to your terrific series if provide biographies and visual presentations.
thank you so much for the kind words, i did sneak in the word 'phenomenology' once in the episode-guess it was so subtle it passed unnoticed (very Heideggerian of me, no?) 😂 as for biographies, I leave those to the countless online encyclopedias, they do it better and keep my videos from turning into mini-documentaries, and on the visual side, I try my best, but let's just say my graphic design skills are still... a work in progress. Audio editing is already time-consuming enough without battling with animation software ;-) again thank you for your kind words
@@mindphilo 😊Sorry I misled. By bios and visuals, I meant to refer to YOU and/or your staff. Don't be shy: people are more inclined to support a person they can see than simply words spoken behind a screen.
Romanian Joke: George was sitting on a boulder in front of his house with his chin in the palm of his hand. John comes walking on the road towards him and asks: "Hi George, do you sit here on the boulder thinking?" At this, George answered: "No, John, I am just sitting."
It just occurred to me that God has this big puzzle in front of us along with extremely VAGUE and unearthing words from Jesus or his other profits, unearthing scripture which has evolved to formation of thousands of denominations so HE CAN SEA, as if we are able to solve this hugest puzzle? And yes there are THE game rules, such as no blasphemy, no heresy, no disrespect! As he or the life lives us stranded, once we lose our loved ones, without any explanation as to where they went!? Where are we heading to?
I get nothing from Heidegger, just word salad. It’s quite important that Heidegger equate his ‘philosophy’ as linked to Nazism. As written in a biography he fantasied about Hitler as a great leader, saying “but look at his hands!”. If that isn’t hero worshiping, what is! For me, there is nothing in his writing. No question, he was a true believer for the Nazi cause.
yes.. but while Heidegger's association with Nazism is deeply regrettable and cannot be overlooked, it is important to consider his significant philosophical contributions. Heidegger’s philosophy, particularly in the realms of phenomenology and even postmodern thought, has had a profound influence, his support for Nazism, as lamentable as it is, deserves examination to understand the intellectual and sociopolitical forces that led to his alignment. I’ve also read some analytical articles on this matter, which suggest that Heidegger might have been misunderstood or misinterpreted in some respects. anyway philosophy should provoke thought and critique, not blind acceptance, and Heidegger's works continue to do just that. tthank you for your reaction
@ I can’t agree. Marcuse, who studied with Heidegger in the late 1920’s,early 1930’s, concluded there is nothing there. The give away is Heidegger’s locution “the being of being” (sic) and other inane like his ‘ontological argument”, which isn’t an argument, or if it is so consider, it is invalid. Totally vacuous. Why on earth people believe this nonsense. And it has to be said, Heidegger was a Nazi true believer and went ‘hip shit’ on Hitler, saying repeating “you just have to look at his hands”. He belong to the Nazi, joined the party, a true believer. He fired all the Jewish professors at his university etc etc. Beside his ‘philosophy’ as Jaspers report, he was a nasty man. And, the unpublished work that is coming out, no question. Heidegger

George; truly a philosopher for the ages... or at least for the neighborhood ;-))
He was born the same year as his dear Adolph. 😵
the fit in is not the flower.
that true flourishing lies in authenticity...
