Another splendid episode gents! Great insight and extreme honesty regarding the drams is what makes this podcast and its members so special. Touching briefly on prices: lately, it seems that msrp levels have jumped quite a bit while auction market prices are steadily declining. In many instances, for a little bit extra money above msrp (or less in sometimes), at auction one could obtain older releases of certain expressions. Like Ian's Highland Park 21 example, these older drams may be slightly higher in quality compared to their modern counterparts. At what point are the currently rising msrp no longer sustainable and it just becomes more worthwhile to seek out things at auction? The amazing 1980s HP12 Ian mentioned in the "battle of the 12s" episode is cheaper than a couple of the bottles featured here, for example ;)

I don’t have space so boxes get slung, but I think it’s a really good point about, if you’re saving bottles for special occasions, that the ceremony of opening the box adds to the experience.
Hard to go wrong with the Glen Dronach - great quality, consistent and not exorbitantly priced.
21yr olds missed? Edradour (very expensive but superb quality), Glengoyne (standards apparently dropped in recent years would be interesting to discuss), Aultmore (very much under the radar, was impressed with the 18), Glen Scotia (older age statements tend to be overlooked), Glenallachie (wildly expensive and a right bastard to even find), Mortlach (core range is expensive and the 12 I tried was dog shit, which scares me off going near the higher age statements), Tobermory is a great shout.

I completely agree with the Longrow 21 comments, and I had a similar experience at the distillery on my last trip, there was one bottle of Springbank 15 and 10 bottles of Longrow 21 on the shelf when they opened. I saw someone pickup the 21 just to put it back down.
I think some of it might be how well priced the other bottles are at the distillery, they’re not just great, they’re a fantastic value, whereas the 21 is likely a bit over what people want to pay.
Longrow is also my favorite of the brands.

Glendronach 21 is so good, it was the dram I shared with my groomsmen on the morning of my wedding. Have another couple on the shelf, it would be nice to have even more, jealous of Jake and his cases. The Longrow 21 has hung around on shelves this year and I ended up buying it at a pretty good discount - unusual for anything from Springbank, which is all normally super difficult to get hold of at all. Definitely interested in hearing more about Highland Park. They know a thing or two about making whisky at that little Orkney distillery. What I like is how it matches what my impression of Scotch whisky is like in my head. Even though I love rum, bourbon, etc I do totally agree with your opinions about harmony and balance of liquids in general. However I think I get frustrated when people can't change their frame of reference per discussion. Like I just do not speak about scotch and bourbon ever in the same sentence unless if I was describing the barrel of a scotch. They are two different liquids with same name of whisky. End of my tiny soap box lol

Also I have never tried the Longrow 21 but interesting in one of the whisky shops I use I have been in several times and it’s still on the shelf. With the popularity of Springbank Whisky at the minute it did surprise me it was still available so interesting to hear you guys take on it.
Just to check is Ian taking impression requests? Micheal Jackson and Gollum in the same episode! 🤣🤣 what next week? Christopher Walken nonchalantly saying Bowmore is shite or Liam Neeson threatening a Master Distiller, “I will look for you, I will find you and I will drink you!” 🤣

The regular Glenfarclas OB line is the platonic ideal of what a scotch is to the masses. Gentle, lightly sherried and you can feel it’s age. It does nothing special but is also approachable.
Is that alluring to the current whisky buyer in todays market that is mostly about the enthusiast finding things that are unique? Probably not. Does it cater to the brand conscious crowd that seeks out macallan? Also no. They are in serious need of a a revamp.

I fast forwarded when you started on the recycling bollocks, but the rest of the video was much better.

You guys lost me on the emissions/recyling enviromental stuff. Just enjoy your whisky in good health. 1000 years from now, man and the earth will still be here. If you really believe that stuff then don’t ride a car, don’t take a plane, don’t use electricity at home, forget Amazon etc. don’t buy clothes and last but not the least, don’t use the internet. So called, “sustainability” is not sustainable.

not sure I agree with everything you've said but I definitely hear you - nothing worse that brands selling you a green dream that's completely baseless. we'll do our best to avoid chatting this sort of shite again! sláinte
