  • I just got negative feedback on eBay - and it was false! I think it's really unfair when bad eBay buyers leave false negative feedbacks on eBay. These false claims can really hurt our stores and punish us with slow sales. I really think eBay need to give sellers time to dispute a negative feedback before they put us in facebook jail!

    I got a negative feedback saying “excellent seller but shipping carrier took too long to deliver, not sellers fault”. Why do buyers people think the shipping carriers delays deserve to be on my seller feedback?! I put in a request and eBay removed it.

      It’s really unfair to be punished for things out of our control or things that are false. There is no doubt in my mind that once you get a negative your store takes a hit for punishment. Not fair.

    Hey,
    just some advice.
    If you have a 30-day return policy , most of your negative feedback is automatically removed by ebay because if a customer has an issue they can just return the item. My returns for a year before offering a 30 day policy was about 2. My returns after offering a 30 day return policy was about 4 and I sell about 1000 items a year (just for perspective).
    I truly believe offering a return option may increase your sales.
    Books and stuff someone could read or watch in 30 days, maybe not as yes they could just use you as a rental but you should probably offer it on clothes and items that are breakable (could happen in transit).

  • @WynterVil
    @WynterVil Год назад +1

    About a year ago I had a customer leave a comment in feedback that they are thrilled to have the item and were pleased with my customer service.
    However, he left it in the negative spot. Ebay refused to remove it despite me pointing out I am being penalized for A POSITIVE review.
    Being a new seller at the time that 1 negative dropped me down to a 96! Almost a year later, I am almost at a 99. Crazy that 1 negative dropped it so fast and it is taking forever to get it to go back up.
    Thankfully, it should go away in October and I will be back to my 100%.
    I just don't understand why some buyers do that? Soooo frustrating.
    I am so glad I found your channel. I have been binge watching off and on.

    At the risk of repeating myself, I never cease to be amazed at the prices achieved for books in Australia. In some cases the price for second hand books is higher than new retail here in the UK. A very different market!

    I agree with you on the buyers "deciding" how long they should take to pay and I hate when they advise you how you should wrap their items. I had one from the USA yesterday who wanted his 2 books individually wrapped with waterproof wrapping before putting in a parcel bag and then the next day he sent me a message again reminding me about doing this!

    Antiquarian or late vintage books like the one's you were talking about don't usually need to be of the best quality to sell. I've sold a few that were literally in pieces because of what they are. Scarcity, desirability and condition. If two are high enough the 3rd doesn't matter. With old books you're sometimes the only person on the planet with one for sale.

    I had one buyer who promised to pay "on Friday", didn't, then made an offer on another item before having paid for his first order. When I cancelled his order he sent me an abusive message threatening negative feedback! He was my first blocked buyer.

    If they are nice about paying late that's fine but not if they are rude like that! I would be inclined to wait until Wednesday and if they don't pay on Wednesday just cancel the order, that's 5 days of that item that could have been on eBay and sold to someone else during that time. Yes, five days is a long time, especially with no notice. It's one of those little annoying things with eBay. eBay should send a notice saying that until you the Buyer pays, this listing is still live and may be purchased by another buyer, cancelling your accepted best offer. Another annoying thing is that when the listing is in Awaiting Payment limbo, the seller doesn't have access to the SKU. So if I am working on getting other sold items out the door, I can't go pick it to have it ready in case the buyer pays - unless of course I go hunting for the item itself.

    I’m in the UK and a buyer through tracking requested item to be left in a safe place but the courier didn’t leave it in safe place that the buyer requested. So buyer left me negative feedback because of that plus also claimed was left in full view of whole street the photo of where the item was left showed otherwise. I contacted buyer to apologise but your issue is with the courier not me and something out of my control so why leave me negative, customer failed to understand not my fault eBay removed feedback.

    I sell on etsy. I had a customer leave me bad feedback and open a case because the item did not arrive. She then admits (in the case convo) that she did not give her full address and did not put her apartment number. She also said she shouldn't have to put her correct address, the mailman should just find her.... She called me many names and Etsy responded by apologizing to HER and thanking her for her patience. They refunded her in full from my account and left the feedback. All faith in Etsy lost. I am glad ebay values its sellers (ie their actual customers)

    Yeah I hate undeserved negs as well. I had one recently. She didn't read the listing description despite my request to do so in the title. It had a full trouble shooting guide to the product.
    They leave me feedback stating it didn't work and they weren't happy. No prior communication. I reached out and referred them to the trouble shooting guide. No response.
    I contact ebay to get the feedback removed and mentioned I recorded footage of the thing working before I sent it. They said they can't remove the feedback just because I think it's unfair. Umm I don't just think it's unfair, it's undeserved. Again, I have footage of it working. They suggest communicating with the buyer to resolve the situation. The buyer won't communicate. I now have to wear the neg for a year, but it doesn't seem to impact the sales, it's just annoying.
    I am certain the buyer didn't put batteries in the the thing.

    Negative feedback sucks, glad you got it removed! Back in 2017 we took an objective look at our feedback and concluded that 42% of our bad feedback was down to buyer dishonesty, and a further 8% due to buyer mistakes. This means that 50% of our negative feedback was largely unavoidable. The remaining 50% consisted of postal damage, buyers not liking quality of items, all of which we contunually try to mitigate through process improvements. We also realised that genuine issues, that are communicated, do not result in bad feedback, because they can be resolved. I should probably redo the analysis in a video... maybe next year!

You never know the reason for a message like that. Maybe it’s a not native speaker (like myself). I think it’s much harder to be polite in other languages. 12 months... however, if you offer returns, the trade off is you no longer can get neutral or negative feedback. and by offering returns does not mean you the seller are paying for the shipping, it depends on the reason for return - call eBay and ask about this, its worth it in the long run, and reduces the drama.

    Question: are you allowed to state “no returns” as a business seller in Australia? In the UK all business sellers have to accept returns

    • @backfromburnout
      @backfromburnout  2 года назад

      Yes we can add No Returns to our listings for change of mind. But if they claim INAD then you have to legally return it. I barely ever get any returns. But if anyone ever asked I would certainly return as it’s good customer service and just part of selling. I put no returns on my listings to stop time wasters ordering stuff just to try before they buy. Many sellers do this.

    • @ArtJourneyUK
      @ArtJourneyUK 2 года назад +1

      @@backfromburnout that’s so interesting! In the UK business sellers *have* to allow people to try before they buy as part of the distance selling regulations. The buyer has to have the same opportunity to check something as they would in a store and if it’s not what they want, including change of mind, they can return it.
      I’m surprised Australia doesn’t have something similar.

    • @MrPaulMorris
      @MrPaulMorris 2 года назад

      @@ArtJourneyUK Yes, another UK seller here. These regulations have been in place since 2000 and, despite the predictions of doom and disaster, I feel this actually was actually a positive thing overall. We need to remember that the regulations were introduced for the benefit of *sellers* in promoting buyer confidence in the ecommerce sphere.
      One thing I noticed was that increasing our 'change of mind' return window to 30 days (from 14) more than halved our actual return rate. I don't know whether this was because it gave buyers time to work things out themselves (particularly back in the days when we specialised in computer and network equipment) or they simply forgot because there was little time pressure but that's what our figures showed--and I'm fairly obsessive about these things keeping records back to Jan 2002 when I first started on eBay professionally.
      Stating 'No returns' as Mel says she does, while actually having a far more tolerant policy, just makes it more likely that buyers will jump straight into INAD cases, leaving the seller to pick up the costs of the return and risking account defects, rather than the buyer returning the product in good order (at their own expense) for later resale. While the seller loses the outbound postage it keeps everything much more amicable.
      Over the years, change of mind/doesn't fit returns have run at a small fraction of 1% of total sales (0.13% by volume averaged over 20 years- so about 1 in 750 units) with almost all of them being in the very small part of our inventory that is clothing). This is well within the sort of running cost I would expect in any sales business and certainly less than the 'shrinkage one might expect in a retail store! At least we get the goods back for resale.

      On the label - i the reference - I type the name of the book I'm sending (or a nickname for the book) For example on the Fifty Shades of Grey I would never write that on the label I just write 50 so I know but anyone else seeing the package won't. Or I might right Mills and that way I know its the mills and boon bundle. If I have multiple types of the same book I have to a bit more specific but it's actually really easy for me to see which book goes into which label really fast.

    You might want to call and talk to an eBay rep about the plus sides of accepting returns. It really is not as bad as it sounds. I personally REQUIRE the item returned prior to refund. In more cases than not the BUYER will have to pay for return shipping, and guess what? If they have to pay 9 times out of 10, they do not send the item back. One of the PLUS sides of accepting returns, is you no longer have to be concerned with Neutral or Bad feedback - meaning it is automatically removed. Just because you offer returns DOES NOT mean you are paying for that shipping. There are far more reasons that the buyer pays the return shipping, than the seller paying for the shipping. Again call and talk to an eBay rep about this.

    • @backfromburnout
      @backfromburnout  2 года назад +1

      Interesting thought about the feedback being automatically removed if any comments about not offering a return. I never have many issues with returns as most people don’t return books. It’s definitely more common though selling clothes and shoes etc. books are so easy which is why I love them.

      Yes! As resellers we do make mistakes and sometimes we buy bad buys. Business is all about sales - expenses = profit. Sometimes we win and sometimes we lose. Sometimes what sells well for someone else it doesn’t mean it will sell well for us. But everything we buy we learn from and the more we learn the better we become!

    When you talked about the book "A Potter's Book," you kept saying it was in terrible condition but you really need to take off the dust jacket to determine the condition of the book itself. Often the dust jacket has protected the book so the book covers might be in excellent condition even if the dust jacket is worn. When selling old books you would describe the condition of both.

    • @backfromburnout
      @backfromburnout  2 года назад

    • @signeknudsen8513

      Surprisingly, the jacket often gives old books more value because they tend to get lost or ruined and because people love the old graphics. I don't know if you're familiar with Abebooks but it is a good site for researching old books listed by many old school booksellers.

    also with regards to shipping internationally, I would look into the global shipping program as we use to send all our stuff internationally ourselves and we moved over to that because it is so much easier than working out prices, you just ship the item to a local GSP centre via normal post and ebay ship it out to the international customer, it also covers against you against any neg feedback for delays in shipping as well
