Picking up where Volume One left off, this sophomore collection of Hong Kong cinema classics draws together many of the best films from the final years of the Shaw Brothers studio, proving that while the end was nigh, these merchants of martial arts mayhem weren’t going to go out without a fight! Armed with stunning special features and ravishing new restorations, this boxset is even bigger and bolder than the last one.
We begin with kung fu master Lau Kar-leung’s instant classic The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, in which his adoptive brother Gordon Liu achieved overnight stardom as the young man who unexpectedly finds spiritual enlightenment on the path to vengeance; Lau and Liu followed the original with two comically inventive sequels, Return to the 36th Chamber and Disciples of the 36th Chamber, both included here. Already established as a genius at blending dazzling action with physical comedy, Lau himself plays the lead role in the hilarious Mad Monkey Kung Fu, coupled here with Lo Mar’s underrated Five Superfighters. Next, we once again meet Chang Cheh’s basher boy band the Venom Mob in no less than four of their best-loved team-ups: Invincible Shaolin, The Kid with the Golden Arm, Magnificent Ruffians and culminating in the all-star Ten Tigers of Kwangtung, co-starring Ti Lung and Fu Sheng.
After Lau brings us perhaps his best high-kicking comedy with My Young Auntie, a playful star vehicle for his real-life muse Kara Hui, we see Shaw Brothers fully embracing Eighties excess in our strangest double feature yet: Wong Jing’s breathtakingly wild shoot-‘em-up Mercenaries from Hong Kong, and Kuei Chih-hung’s spectacularly unhinged black magic meltdown The Boxer’s Omen. Last but certainly not least, Lau Kar-leung directs the last major Shaw production, Martial Arts of Shaolin, filmed in mainland China with a hot new talent named Jet Li in the lead role; it is paired in this set with The Bare-Footed Kid, a reverent remake of a Chang Cheh classic with Johnnie To (Running Out of Time) in the director’s chair and Lau back on fight choreography duties, in arguably the ultimate filmed tribute to Shaws’ everlasting cinematic legacy.

Bring on volume 3!!! 🎥
I know they are just that good
I heard that originally Vol 1 +2 were to be ONE SET, and that at least two more are possible
I want Vol 3 to be an All Venoms Bix set
Loved these old trailers. I was a youngin' back in the 80's going to Great Star theater on Jackson street in SF every Saturday for double features. No popcorn in Chinese run theater. They sell Vitasoy box drinks, Sneakers, M&M. Good times!!!!
Yes!!! I got Volume 1 and will be getting Volume 2!
Man that feeling you get when the Shaw logo comes on is priceless. BTW, in a strange way, I'd prefer to watch a high resolution film scan vs these new polished stuff, just saying despite my appreciation that they've cleaned them up, so I hope they still keep them coming.
Anyways, I pray for the day to have English dubbed versions of the following:
1) Gang Master
2) Secret Service of the Imperial Court
3) Sword Stained with Royal Blood
4) Ode to Gallantry
5) Proud Youth
6) Judgement of an Assassin
7) Roving Swordsman
8) Lady Assassin
9) Imperial Swordsman
10) Legend of the Fox
Hoping we get these:
1. The Delinquent
2. The Duel
3. Blood Brothers
4. Vengeance
5. The Avenging Eagle
6.Judgement of an Assassin
@@pressureworld1 Cool! I have 2,3,4 & 5 in English with 3 & 5 being dual audio released by Dragon Dynasty. Interestingly, they had a combo of Blood Brothers and Avenging Eagle on DVD. I'm not sure they ever did Blu-rays.
@@pressureworld1 Oh man! The Delinquent/a.k.a. Street Gangs Of Hong Kong!!!!!!!! That was one of my late mother's favorite kung fu films!!!!!!! She loved that film!!!!!!!!!! I hope there is a brand new copy of David Chiang,Ti Lung's Triple Irons/The New One-Armed Swordsman in the next ShawScope set 3!!!!!!!!
Beyond excited. Finally getting Mad Monkey Kung-Fu. Hopefully Treasure Hunters aka Master of Disaster is part of the next set
Return to 36 Chambers was also titled Master of Disaster in it's first US release.
Run Run Shaw and Jackie Chan were a big part of my childhood in the Manila. I love how amazon prime has some of them ready for streaming.
Can we get a remastered "Thundering Mantis"????
I own all of the important ones on Reg 3 IVL DVD but it's great to see them getting a proper re-release here and I'll never tire of the original trailers, not the "new trailers".
Already pre-ordered and excited for even more! Arrow rules!
automatic pre order
5 deadly venoms box set would be cool with posters and mask. And wang yu box sets would be cool also
I already own the venoms DVD set but with the masks and posters would bring my childhood back!!!
Can't wait! Definitely pre-ordering this one!
These are some of shaw brothers best films I grew up watching I know this will upset people I think invincible shallow is better than five venoms very underated
yes it is better. the plot, the training, and the fight scenes at the end is worth watching. if invisible Shaolin doesn't have romance, I would put it above 5 Venoms. 5 Venoms doesn't have romance so this is my top 1. it is based on reality. injustice and corruption.
I agree the romance scenes ruin the film only negative in film otherwise a perfect kung fu film
A gift sent from heaven, this feels like. 🙏🏾✨
I was hoping that Little Mad Guy would be in this set, anyways I'm still buying it.
Hot dang! What a trailer reel!
God bless hong kong cinema 🙏
Damn blows away volume 1. I kinda wish volume 2 included some soundtracks like last year
It does mate, two more audio cd’s in Volume 2 as well!
This films in this set are better than volume 1
The Boxer's Omen is a awesome movie!
Oh hell yeah!
Wow, you're the best Arrow!
Pre-ordered immediately! Hope to see more volumes in the future.
These never looked this good in theaters.
Very excited
Very much looking forward to this. Have pre-ordered. Can’t wait to see Mad Monkey Kung Fu restored. The Boxer’s Omen looks like it will be the weirdest Hong Kong movie I have ever seen. Great to see another high quality set being released. Volume 1 was fantastic.
This coming November I cannot wait to add this to my SB DVD/Blu-ray collection.
Vol 3 please. More gordon liu
Great holiday gift
Will someone please release "Master of the Flying Guillotine" on bluray. I don't know what studio produced it but it's a great kung fu flick!
“First Films” company released it its the same company that made Tattoo Connection and the Hot Cool & Vicious
Electric
Hey Arrow, will any of these be released individually, i.e. The Boxer's Omen?
These box sets are for the films Arrow had distribution rights in the UK and US respectfully. The reason some movies have single releases are because Arrow has distribution rights in one territory, not the other. The films in the box set are not going to be released individually as far as we know.
Probably not, Arrow hasn’t said anything about it and they haven’t released any of the previous set individually. Boxer’s Omen specifically seems sort of smuggled into this set because they don’t know if there a big enough audience for Shaw horror
I know how excited are people about the SB boxes. I love Shaw Brothers films and Hong Kong martial arts and action films in general. I also love Arrow Video releases of all those horrors and other films. Their releases are usually top notch and they dedicate proper attention to each and every movie they put out. But why did they put like 12 random SB movies in one box? Even though the box is beautifully done, it just stands in the way. It ruins the possibility to sort the movies alphabetically or chronologically and I´m kind of forced to buy all 12 movies even when I want just 3 or 4 of them. Now the second box is on the way, again random selection......88films release the movies one by one so we can choose which we buy and which we skip and we can build the collection freely whichever way we like. Beautiful boxes, Arrow Video, but it is a bit frustrating. I´m happy that the movies are getting blu ray releases in the UK but the way they are put out is messed up compared to the way that Arrow Video puts out the other movies.
Do yourself a favour and watch Boxer's Omen immediately
Boxer's Omen? WTF????😙😙😙😙😙
