Welcome to our deep dive into the world of Quake. Before anything else, a massive shout-out and thank you to the Quake Champions Discord server. The passionate community there provided invaluable insights, discussions, and hints that helped in piecing together this intricate puzzle. The narrative of Quake 1 is notably sparse, with fragments of its lore dispersed and often elusive. Throughout our research, we encountered varied sources, some of which seemed to contradict others. As such, please approach this video with an open mind and a touch of leniency; it represents our best efforts to make sense of the disparate threads of Quake lore.
This video is just the beginning of an exciting journey. As part of our series, we'll first delve into Quake 1. Upon wrapping that up, we'll venture into the worlds of Quake Wars, 2, and 4. Ultimately, everything will converge as we tie these stories to Quake Champions and Arena.

I've played Quake since 1996 without even noticing there was an actual Lore :)
To me, Quake 1 always felt like some kind of weird alternate history earth. The secret facilities look run down and even look like they were reporposed or something. Also the standard issue nailguns seems like some kind of alternate reality steampunk tech. I also feel like the dimensions that ranger fights through were a bit underdeveloped.
The weapons that ranger collects could all be tech from different dimensions for all we know
Wow… I’m actually mind blown… I have played Quake since the beginning, & I never knew any of this info. Excellent video you did! And you got yourself a new subscriber.
quake needs a reboot like doom and wolfenstein
I was not expecting to see the lore of quake went this deep
Initially, I thought I'd do a brief 15-minute video on Quake 1, but as I delved deeper, it quickly extended to 30 minutes. Now, I'm looking at a comprehensive 45-minute rundown, and that's just on Quake 1 alone! With Quake Wars, Quake 2, and Quake 4 still on the horizon, we're in for an extensive, captivating journey 🙃
@@lechumqc7910I am here for that kind of content. Its a shame when a developer goes hard on world-building and has some genuinely interesting elements that go unnoticed because the rest of the game takes precedence to the point where people like me assumed the lore was like Doom: badass protag with plot armor gets sent somewhere bad and does a genocide to go back home. I'm thinking im going to replay quake, for some reason I remember the graphics being so shitty and apparently I am not remembering it correctly.
Edit: Let me specify I mean Doom's lore in the 1990s, not in the 2020s where they turned it into a really huge action movie, and I mean that in a good way.
@@lechumqc7910I can’t wait for quake ll and quake 4! Because I played those a lot.
Good Lord me either - wow
@@lechumqc7910 where does that lore come from ? I played Quake1 on release in 1996 and don't remember anything as detailed explained in the game, quite the opposite actually. Was it described in the manual ?
I never played Quake growing up, but thanks to the remasters I’m actually loving them. My inner child is getting to play it, that’s the best way I can describe it. Super glad I found this. Looking forward to the rest of it.
Have a look at Slipgate Sightseer & Quaddicted for an entire galaxy of unforgettable maps and mods 👍
Quake 2 and Tomb Raider 2 were the first 2 games I played on PC. I was hooked on both games...
Once I wrap up the story of Quake 1, I'm diving deep into the story of the stroggs in Enemy Territory, Quake 2 and 4. I've only skimmed over Quake 2 for research so far, but I'm genuinely very excited to play through it fully ^^
Is it your voice in the video clips and do you have an academical background? Your research hints at perhaps university level. I am completing a sociological research master's at the age of 42.
@@GlobalGuy008 As much as I'd love to take credit, this voice is from a service I'm using. I'm glad you appreciate it though ^^
@@lechumqc7910 Be honest. Is it AI? Because it sounds real.
Loved your Doom 3 story dive & Doom 3 similar games videos. Saw this pop up in my feed & got excited. Great narration & video editing for this & those videos.
Just earned a new subscriber.
Was pretty surprised with the quality of the videos with how the small sub count is ( at least for now lol )
Here's hoping for more success to you guys
Nice to see somebody go through the quake champions lore
Hi there, i have a small theory, maybe the american scientist wasn't creating a perfect or super soldier, more like the perfect gladiator, influenced by a misterious being (vadrigar perhaps) and that's could be the reason why the visor clones when they're together they start to trigger a carnage like a "deathmatch" play, and also that could explain all the eldritch experiments into those subjects.
Also nice video, keep going relating the lore behind the ID universe or multiverse at this moment.
Absolutely, you've touched upon a fascinating aspect of the lore surrounding the Visor clones. Their instability when in close proximity is indeed suggestive of deeper existential struggles. As you rightly pointed out, the potential hint from the lore writer suggests that each clone harbors a deep-seated desire to be recognized as the definitive 'Visor'. A scene further solidify this in the comic, where we can see the words "Without Reference, Purpose, Necessary" scrawled on the wall of a visor clone room, further cements this notion. It's a poignant reflection on identity and the need for individual recognition. This, combined with the eldritch magic that's been infused within them, could have amplified these sentiments. It's a wonderful exploration of what it means to be more than just a mere duplicate or copy.
Oh my goodness, this video is seriously awesome! 😄 I can't get enough of it! The way you present everything is super cool and easy to follow. Kudos to you for putting in the hard work to make such a fantastic video. Can't wait to hang out on your channel for more incredible content! 🙌🎉
Brilliant content mate!!!
Keep the lore vids coming! Great stuff.
Great work! Loved the editing, voicing, tone.
Well done!
Absolutely outstanding video. Brilliantly well edited. I had no idea quake lore was these involved.
I'm loving this! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for making these. Something that could be cool it's to add a list of reference material used so people could be aware of what's out there - I can't even imagine how much work went into this video and referencing can be hard so, even a list with the most memorable pieces of material you used would be already amazing
Thank you! I've added the references to the video description. Thanks for pointing that out!
Very appreciated. Thank you. I'll be hunting down these comics @@lechumqc7910
Really well made video! Thanks for this!!
Underrated channel
Hooray! A big ol list of quake lore. I been looking for this! New sub, right here
This was awesome!
Superb video. Love the detailed storyline
These lore videos are phenomenal!!! Keep it up 🎉🎉😊
Just found this channel. WOW!! Great content!
Great work!
Are you consulting only the scrolls in QC and its comics, or also the extra hints Adam Pyle revealed in conversations on Discord in the lore section? Like Ithagnal being female, or various little bits about the gods that aren't in the game yet like Nekelmuset. Or the bit about Volkerh pretending to be a Starspawn and misleading their race for his own ends, which is even pictured in the game on some stained glass windows, with Cthulhu's race being shown around a large stone and Volkerh being shown in fake Starspawn form. There's quite a lot buried within thousands of pages of fan speculation, but thankfully Discord is searchable by poster name.
One time I was online on Discord when Pyle revealed that Xaero killed his sister and that their father made the cyborg Unum Rey (a name revealed in an old data mine, for a potential new champion that got scrapped) based on her. Then he deleted the message, but not before a few of the regulars there took screenshots. Wonder how many other withdrawn reveals like that there were over the years.
edit: NVM! I see in later videos that you are a connoisseur, knowing that Goroth/Griothrhig replaced Chthon etc.
Please keep it up, this was fucking GREAT!
I got my first PC when Quake 3 Arena came out. The game seemed like an action packed comic book of entertainment with the laugh taunts and the motion combos. But then I started reading about the lore and how dark the other games were...
Gilman is a character name reference to a Lovecraft story.
That was so deep about visor. i forgot that was a lore about quake. But imagine when he meets matthew kane and Nicholas Raine they will destroy all stroggs, but the fun facts is, ID software likes marines and super soldiers
Was so invested into video that narrator's address to viewer as in every YT video caught me offguard. This is quality prod. not expected from YT makers.
Oh my. Please. Please more quake 1. And the arenas. And the strogg... Oh please santa
Drooling
Subbed
Least it's not the old war Germans this time
Shug Neggeroth? Thats my favorite rapper!
Hell Yeah 💪🏻 Fragging Awesome 👊🏻
Oh, boy... QUAKE !!!
I'll take it by the spoonful.
(You have to watch the Quake Arenas movie 1h08m, if haven't had time yet, mate)
good stuff
Finally quake lore
Just watched a couple of your Doom 3 videos, really enjoyed them! Also, seems that you're from Quebec, if so... t'as mon support mon chum! 😊
"Operation Counter-Strike"
Is the CS series namesake a reference to this?
Likely, Counter-Strike was first a Quake mod, before Half-life came out.
More please
The voice overs are AI?! Damn, the main narrator sounds like the guy who reads Warhammer 40k audiobooks.
I was told it looked like the voice of Christopher Tester. I don't know on who they are trained on but some are from real voice actors.
Having been to the hermitage museum, I'm very willing to believe the lower levels hold artifacts of untold horrors.
Great
I never knew Quake had such lore. I thought only Quake ll had some lore.
I straight up bet you it's on the horizon
I want a remake of Quake, especially a new and more graphic take on "Strogification".
Just like Ben 10, it took a few years and months until something as ancient like Quake gets more attention.
Good-day.
I'm actually downloading your video to watch later.
I really hate how games and movies plots say "another dimension" as meaning just "another world", and nothing like 'dimension' is supposed to mean in Physics/Science.
But, hey, don't get me wrong: I'm really loving all of your vids so far! :)
I love these videos but i gotta ask are you using AI voice generation ?
Thank you! Yes I do! :)
Seeing the first minutes of the video cant help but see all the similarities quake has to doom
eyes like bloodborne
Wait, Quake 1 had lore??
OK, 3:21 in, can not watch anymore. The Soviets again, right.
it has nothing to do with quake 1 lol, this is quake 3/champions lore
