super interesting seeing comparison with WD black SN 770, got this one last year for 100$, great to see you get practically same performacne with WD blue for half the price today
This is perfect timing! I was planning/need to get more storage this fall. This covered everything I wanted to know and more. Thank you!
As always, another exceptionally well prepared and presented review. Keep up the great work here.
Thanks Lana for making great videos. You cover most of the aspects, could you include power consumption section as well in future videos? I appreciate how well you have sorted and created playlists, it is very easy to find content. You are one of the best youtuber.
Love this content and especially the Cases and SSD reviews, so many of them on the market and personally I get so lost, thank you!!!
Thank you for posting this excellent product review. I built one system earlier this year with three (3) Western Digital Black SN850X drives. It was intended to be an acceptable, but not a high end, system for video editing. So far, the owner of that system says everything works well. I did have to do firmware updates on all 3 of the devices before I handed the new system over. So I expect the budget drives will likely need firmware updates, too.
Looking forward to some SSD enclosures reviews. Would make a great combo with such an SSD.
İncelemeleriniz genel olarak çok başarılı aradığım birçok sorunun cevabını biz sormadan siz veriyorsunuz çok teşekkürler.
Great presentation. Your English is also flawless.
I like the spec of this drive a lot specially the price lol. I like that you mention the special case of portable and the warning about the console memory show your mastery about all uses of the drive.
Your pal Coco
Good info. Appreciate the comparisons and recommendation. Agree 4TB would be preferred. Glad you put it up against other drives in that capacity, too.
very good and helpful review. thanks and greetings from germany
Just what i was looking for!!!
You need more subs great video!
Now I see the "Mini lego" version of the Cube case u reviewed..so cute😁
quite surprising results compared to KC3000, thanks!
excellent review as always. Good to see NVME prices shooting down in general
Thank you!
@@TechTesters please test wd sn 740 dear.
Kioxia/Toshiba’s TLC NAND + ssd made in WD’s plant in Malaysia = always a winning combination in terms of price-to-performance
Great review and tips like always, shame this drive isn't in stock at Amazon Spain during this week black Friday sales, the next best option seems to be the 2TB Crucial P5 plus at 105€ (plus 6.3 for a Thermalright heatsink) compared to 118/121 or so from a third party seller+ the same heatsink... I will wait maybe some stock will enter through the week.
Thanks a lot!
The SN580 in my region cost around $58 usd now. Was planning to get one as a game drive.
Hi Nada. It was so pleasant to see you and your great reviews again. I would not have shown gen. 5 and gen. 4 results in the graphs. Seems like an apples-and-oranges comparison. Instead, I would have included some M.2 NVMe 4TB SSDs. Could you review my new CORSAIR VENGENCE 8100 pre-build Gamer PC? I can only find a few RUclips video reviews. Mine is a monster regarding performance, size, and cost. *No Lego was harmed in the making of this comment.
great review
In UK the 2TB SN770 is cheaper than the SN580. It was a clear choice for me a few month ago.
Nice Review dude, I have recently purchased it under sale(1 TB variant), its insane under this price and spec, btw 1:12 I like that buddy❣😄
Outstanding product review!
Glad you liked it!
What would you recommend for 8tb SSD for general large storage? Sata or NVME.
The Queen of SSD's is back at it again!
I bought open box model 1TB and 2TB Western Digital PCIe 4.0 SN850x SSD's to replace my aging Intel 670p OS and game storage drives.
Blazing fast performance with DDR5 and a 13700k. Western Digital is putting out some really nice SSD's across the board
This looks like it's going to be my recommended drive for all my friends who come to me for PC building guidance ha. Thanks for the review!
At its current price the sn770, which is priced the same, is still a bit better. Runs cooler, has a higher tbw on the 2tb version and is about 500MBps faster in slc buffer mode.
@@ETin6666 I'm thinking more on the longer term when this drive inevitably gets priced on the same level as the SN570. It should just be the go-to option for most gamer builds.
I don't remember watching such a in-depth review of any technology product, let alone of a ssd. This is how "reviews" should be. #Subscribed 🎉
best reviews on the platform right here
is this whay I should buy even if im stuck on gen 3? not planning really on updating my mobo
I picked up the 2TB version or 90 euro's! I used the SN570 in several systems with pleasing performance, I will be glad to use its successor too. nvme drives really have gone down in price, I remember like 6 years ago I had to pay this amount for a 500GB SATA SSD.
Thanks Lana for the review of these SSDs and making a recommendation to us normal consumers ,
I have been looking for a second drive that I might use inside a usb-nvme enclosure perhaps, this sn580 seems great and better than the nv2 in dramless category, it also beats my 980 pro 1tb in most tests
Will the HMB concept also work if we use inside a usb-nvme enclosure? Since it'll be limited to 1000MBps max anyway so does hmb even matter, dram SSD may also perform similarly in an enclosure, right ?
Please also do some tests with USB nvme enclosures for added info maybe, also if small icons can be added in graph to show dram/dram-less/hmb etc
The ssd's controller still controls the hmb (i'd call it SLC cache) just fine in a enclosure. You will still notice a difference between a dram ssd and slc cached ssd's like this one, depending on the workload. But it's far less difference when used on a desktop. I use Lexar nm710 2TB nvme's in my 2 m.2 enclosures, they are 20 euro's cheaper than WD but better specs, and also 5 year warranty. Shame they are missing in the lists, as the nm710 and nm790 would walk circles on most of em.
SN570 2TB is a completely different SSD than the other capacities of the SN570 series... There are videos on YT showing it. In the case of 2TB, the SN570 2TB is still a more profitable option, which is in fact the SN770 model, which is slightly limited by software
I recently got a 570 from an acer prebuilt into my custom build. So far gameloading(fm23) is snappy. Definitely helps cos my cpu is only a 10105:(
Hi there, I know this video is a bit old but I need help.
The WD black sn770 2tb
Or
The WD blue sn580 2tb
As my main drive for every day use and gaming, which one would you recommend?
Thx 😊
Hoping you test some of the offerings from Solidigm soon. Ex-Intel Optane engineers behind this brand.
Does dram less sdd make it age faster?
Great video, thank you 😊
You’re welcome 😊
How much actual usable space after windows 11 installation??
Is this compatible in Asus F15 FX506HC second SSD slot?
Is wd sn580 gen4 compatible with acer predator helios 300?
Can we have a review of the Lexar nm790? It would be interesting to see another implementation of a dram-less ssd and compare the results with this WD ssd as well as mainstream ssds like the kingston kc3000.
Should have Lexar included soon. Not sure which exact models yet though.
Thanks.
Great Video! I'm thinking of getting this as a second laptop drive and it will mostly store linux isos and media. Would it be worh getting the WD Black instead?
My bad you basically answered it
When I look for 2280 ssd cost, TBW speed does really matter because i own a 2013 27" iMac I know a model T car but I am happy with my Mac.
With all the insanity of most hardware prices, at least it's nice that the SSD market is in a really good place.
For mainly gaming pc (inculuding opertaing system) would u advise this ? the price is crazy cheap compared to others and gaming performece look even better than other more expensive drives
For anything low end to mid range, definitely!
well made review
SSD Queen edict returns!
Can i use it in gen3 boarf
Would it be possible to add a sustained write speed test(Write the entire drive with huge files until it is full and show how much the speed slows down with time) to the SSD benchmarks? That's the only one I am really interested and it is difficult to find elsewhere. Thanks
Yeah, with all these dram less ssds, it's good to know at what size they start to struggle in write speed.
According to TechPowerUp, sn580 drops to SATA speed at ~350GB mark. That means if you copy/write a 400GB (or anything bigger than 350gb) file to the disk, you will only get its marketed speed till ~350GB, after which it will come down to ~600mbps.
Had both an SN770 and the 850X at the same time and it was basically no difference in real use. Benchmarks was the only place there was any difference. So I sold the 850X. There was just no need for the extra speed.
It's amazing how inexpensive SSDs have become. Never thought I'd say it but for everyday tasks and even gaming DRAM-less with SLC caching and good warranties is completely viable.
I think it won't take long to see more consumer NASes with all-NVME slots :)
Can you adjust the link to the SSD? When I click it, it's coming up as, "Cooler Master V1100 SFX Platinum ATX3.0". Thanks! I need one of those because my games are taking a while to load off the old dizzy drive.
Fixed! Sorry about that and thanks for letting me know! 👊
Queen of SSD 👸
They have to get the 2TB versions price down, too high for no dram which can matter down the line as it gets moved into an usb enclosure without hmb support.
I have a 990 pro 2tb and a SN 580 2tb. My OS is on the 580 would it be more efficient to put the OS on the 990 pro since it's pretty much empty?
The 990 pro is the better drive, specs and quality wise, also that has DRAM. You should always try to put your OS on a drive with DRAM
Is it going to work on my old 2013 /14 Mac air 😂 that’s what I want to know
Wondering is this Blue SN 580 suitable for external casing Mac OS works for 24 hours, 7. days a week? Or i should go with Black SN 770 to benefit from the 20% efficiency technology.
It'll work, but since HMB won't work with USB drives I'd probably grab something dram based instead.
@TechTesters I would getting acasis thunderbolt 3 external casing for the installation mac os. Would this solving the DRAM situation? Else I would have to go for older gen NVMe SSD.
The black sn black 850 and above models seems overkill tech with mac mini 2018 I have here.
Does lower DRAM in a NVME lower the quality of things such as durability or does it only affect speed
No bro, it only affects heavy using speed
Would it be reliable enough for 10 years, if I buy Kingston KC3000 1TB?
Please help me out.
No SSD will guarantee to work for 10 years. No SSD will even guarantee to work for 1 year (but you will have warranty).
Will it likely survive 10 years with regular use? Probably. But anything can break.
Nada ... can you please REVIEW the "TeamGroup T-Force Cardea Zero Z440" ?
I believe it is the ONLY NVMe drive that has three times the normal TBW (tera bytes written), of any SSD !
Will try :)
Also since TeamGroup will buy their NAND from the same suppliers, I really doubt it'll actually be 3x as durable.
@@TechTesters
Thanks !
I just ordered this one. Let's see how it works
Enjoy!

Well now you got me interested....
How would this SSD do in a PS5?
It'll work, but you might run into problems if future games suddenly demand more from the PS5 SSD than they do now.
@@TechTesters I have looked for a test, especially in Ratchet & Clank, to see if the SN580 can load between world as well at other drives. But I have not been able to find anything.
But my guess is that it will do just fine since the WD SN750 SE looks to be ok, although moving games takes a little longer, the load times looks to be fine. And if one game in the future do not run well, that you always have the internal storage to fall back on. And the SN580 looks to be a lot better than the WD SN750 SE but the file transfer might be about the same (On the PS5).
Interesting video.
Glad you think so!
Can i use this as secondary storage for my laptop?
Absolutely. Assuming your laptop has a slot for it.
SN770 vs P5 plus as main drive on a system with only PCI-E gen 3? SN770 is 5 USD more expensive for 1TB.
I'd take the DRAM option for that tbh, so P5 Plus.
@@TechTesters Thank you! Really helpful advice. It has become really complicated to compare SSDs in general these days without having to become an expert yourself on the topic.
52 euros on amazon prime days for 1TB is hard to beat. I guess I'll buy two of them. One for my dads hackintosh build and one for my AM5 build. Gen 5 SSD can wait even though they might be supported by my motherboard. ^^
I think maybe you should do a simplified purchase advice video based on use case and them comparing models from different brands in each price range. Just like you did here.
Love your vids but i think you need one more graph Endurance (TBW) to show life span :)
It's not really the lifespan though, it's a nice theoretical claim at best. I personally wouldn't put too much value in it.
I got one for free. The 2tb came on a used motherboard I bought on eBay from a PC parts recycler company. It was under the heatsink 🙂 edit: they also left a 1tb sn850x
Test Netac nv7000-t 4TB for 149 USD.
Does it come with the mounting screw???
Unfortunately not
Wow $100 for the 2TB version!? Regular price here in Canada is $250. But it's on sale right now for $174.99 which is still $40 more than exchange rate.
IKR! SSD Prices were cheaper last yr. Inflation it is.
1:32 Arithmetics is hard nowadays.
Its temprature are higher than 570
Bad DRAM-less drives are bad
Good DRAM-less drives are... well, not as good as good drives with DRAM, but still fine for most uses. My works laptop has a WD blue DRAMless NVME drive and it's really fast.
Can I use it in gen 3 port?
Yes but it will act as a gen 3 ssd.
Can I use it on gen 3
PCIe is backwards compatible, so yes. But there are some motherboards that might still struggle. That's very rare though.
Is this ssd backwards compatible?
Yes
But on the box it says "purpose-built for creators"
🤐
Will this work with ps5?
It can physically work but I wouldn’t recommend it. Buy a dram based drive for ps5.
❤❤❤❤❤
Too bad they not making 4TB version. I would buy it for sure for double 2TB price.
I am looking for cheap 4TB ssd with TLC and theres nothing at all.
Agreed! It's mostly cheap QLCs or mid-range and above TLCs. Transcend 250-series is priced well in our region, but not in all.
☺️
Looks like SN770 copy with a blue sticker instead of black.
👍👍❤️❤️❤️
IMO there shouldn't even be a 500GB version. 1 thru 8 TB.
ok
so i just overpaid for a kingston fury... :c
Not really, proper DRAM drives definitely have their purposes.
250GB versions exist for people who dont need 500GB.
No reason to spend any edditional money at all if you will never ever take advantage of the extra space of added speed.
I only keep my OS on my 500GB 980 Pro. I wish it was a 250GB for which I could have spent less money.
Don't forget to LIKE the video
If they do not have Dram I most likely will not buy them.
250 GB might have been okay 5 or 6 years ago. No one should be building a system with a 250 GB boot drive today.
They literally cost the same as 500GB drives here, I don't get it. Give me 4 TB!
Depends... Not for gaming of course. But for work? Why not: if everything is on a NAS or in the cloud?
As a boot disk, it's 100% fine. I have a KC3000, 500GB, and I'm only using 80GB (windows 11 + all my applications). I keep all my stuff on a 2nd disk (regular 4TB 2.5" SSD)
@@BOZ_11 Yes it's fine, but if the cost of a terabyte drive is not that much more money, why not get one? The last build I made I got the Crucial P5 2tb. I've built systems with 128 GB boot drives and they've filled up fast!
@@MrDilldock yeah 128GB is too small. Gotta be 240GB minimum for a boot disk, or 500GB for comfort
💋💋💋💋
Waste of space, this could've been 2242 or 2260
FIRST
👍👊
Disappointed that no ADATA premium or 850 legendor Silicon power ud90, both are budget drives with amazing performance, easily beat this sn580 .
amazing review
Thanks!
