The fact that she explains moist with a beer can makes me love her even more.
That's very generous of you to have a downloadable logo. Shows you care more about the message than the money. 😊
Dear miss Laura, I agree wholeheartedly with your choice of armaflex insulation. I have over 20 years experience as an industrial insulator. I spent most of that time in power plants insulating steam piping systems. We did however do work in meatpacking plants insulating cold systems and we used a lot of armaflex sheet. Another nice alternative is cork. Especially if the insulation needs to be exposed for some reason. I really enjoy your channel and watching your skills. Thank you for posting.
You should call it the Tiny Kampfer
Frenetic Ferret ... i was thinking the same thing👍

I think I haven’t heard many builders talk about sound insulation but it is very important! This project is so interesting! Looking forward to the next installment!!
This horse trailer camper project has inspired me to make a tear drop camper with my son. Thanks for your excellent content, Laura!
Love it when my favourite channels collide! Lookmforward to your teardrop videos :) Have a search for my friends Dave & Rosie’s steampunk teardrop called the Campernati - it’s a stunning teardrop made from recycled materials.
Love how you have included more theory on what is important to research like the power and insulation! I don't think you talked about it as much or pointed out the complexity of selecting the right things in your previous project videos and I feel it increases the overall value of the video! This project itself looks so great and I'm looking forward to the final camper!
Thanks for your feedback! I am always a bit worried that too much talking is too boring. Glad you enjoyed it!
Totally agree - I think by just explaining your understanding & your choice it hits a good balance of enough info & not too much (confusing) theory.
@@laurakampf it would be boring if you were. Like Daniel Willits said, you express yourself so well, ask for others opinion, etc. that it truly is what making is all about, sharing. All the makers i know can't do anything but, and we love to share. So yes, and thank you freedompksb and of course, you Laura.
Hi Laura. Yes, we are still here, till the end. I will sit through commercials and watch patiently till the end because your videos are worth watching fully! You are a source of inspiration, entertainment and peace. Thank you.
Laura it’s so refreshing to hear somebody emphasise and express so eloquently that there are many different solutions and approaches that can be taken. Far too many people are keen to push their own opinion as the right or best one. We live in a polemic world sadly. It says so much about the maturity and lovely balance of your character that you instead are so keen to emphasise that this was just the solution that worked for you and that other solutions are ok too. Good on you 👍🏻
Oh and it’s Yeti like Spaghetti 😁✌🏻
Hey Laura. Just want you to know that since watching your videos, I've made a ton of progress as well. Been making and building stuff around the house. It might not be as neat as I want it to be but I've never felt so proud of myself. Thanks so much for the inspiration. Keep making those videos and stay safe!
Still here! You're a good person Laura, it's great to watch your progress
Love what your doing Laura. Please never stop what your doing
I totally love your videos, I enjoy the detail information and it sure doesn't bore me at all. Awesome shirt and logo and you are super awesome to allow for free download to print ourselves. Laura super cool! Prost!
I used sheeps wool insulation for my camper. I had varying depths based on protrusions on the outside of my van, so the depth of the wall varied between 4 to 6 cm. I decided that a more easily compressable amterial, like wool, would work best for me.
Great job 👍. I have done all of those projects on campers in the last 10 years or so. I am with you 100% on the insulation. A little ventilation does wonders with condensation. Solar battery requirements are totally ‘use based’ so are often quite different for different users. Your scalable approach is the best one I have found.
PS. I think what you did with that logo is super cool and sends a great message and does not produce any waste. Thank you again. Cheers.
I actually enjoy videos when you talk a little. Sometimes you are almost only just saying"hi". So this one was great. You have a great personality, and I like it to shine both by showing what you do,and with you saying what you do, or why you do it that way. Greetings from Norway
Liking the power bank approach, much more versatile.
Hi Laura, I insulated my sprinter van with sheep's wool. It's seems to work really well, it's been three years now with no problems.
Everything in the section about your shirts it's just wonderful! You are clearly a very caring and conscious person
Thank you!
I love the "I did it this way, go and look for your own way of doing it, and let me know your thoughts"! You are the best!!
You are a fine teacher and explorer!
Laura is the best. Love her programs.
Audio was much more balanced this episode! Talking and music were on par and I didn't have to turn up volume to double the normal settings.
Also love the build!
Finally I got it right ;) was about time
I love this video series. The camper came out fantastic 👍. Hope to see you traveling across Greece. After all, will have endless solar power 🌞
Love your videos, Laura. I love watching them with my kids. It’s inspiring for my girls specifically to see you getting your hands dirty and doing the things you do.
Laura, you are such an inspiration in so many ways🤗
I just had this crazy idea, and you're all free to use it!
Laura mentioned there would be a gap between the Armaflex and the inner wall, and that her theory is that any moisture caught in-between would naturally evaporate.
So here's my idea: why don't you try and add the need to have that moisture evaporate to the need to have (what I think is/was her goal for the interior) modularity?
How? By using pegboard for the inner walls!
You could even have it on the ceiling, have LEDs between the Armaflex and the board, and create your own Rolls-Royce style Starlight ceiling!
Laura probably already has the project all finished by now and is just publishing the videos as they're getting edited, but we "normals" can try this on our own!
Silvio Silva Love your thinking 🙂
Yes, Laura, I, Otto could not think of anything else to make it any better, we also have this insulation in Oz, stone wool and siderophore would be also an option to use - same rules about glass here and it comes anyway from Germany with the TU"F approval - however, you have it over there very cold ( the coldest I ever experienced was minus 46 in Tyrolian Alps) and we have it very hot. We have 3/4 of a year like summer and from November to March around the 40 Centigrade mark with 46 around New Year. We also struggle with the cold bridge and high humidity, mold is the number one enemy, and to absorb the humidity to use fabric wall lining/underfelt and lots of carpet, but rather double glassed windows as a single glass works like a solar cell and creates a heat-box. You soled the Power plant the easy and uncomplicated practical way. We wear rainbow colors to show our solidarity and I wear a provocative, colorful Aboriginal Shirt on Australia Day and do not hand out an Australian flag nor do we celebrate "Invasion Day"! There are so many things that still divides our nation that needs fixing, pronto!
I love the way you transferred the measures of the second window to the camper wall. Elegantly simple.
That's a beautiful message for the shirts. The fact that you are just trying to spread the message is a ray of happiness this world needs right now
I will love to use your logo on a mug, and my girlfriend also likes it.
Unfortunately in Argentina sometimes it's impossible to buy something from another country due to such high taxes and "state obstacles
".
Thank you for your generosity and love.
Hi Laura, i've converted some Van's/RV's/Campers by myself. So i can say that you've had choosen the right decision in YOUR case ! As you stated it is different what your base is where you start from. Is it a VW-Van with self-supporting body, is it a former Cargo-Truck with flat walls and no superstructure, is it a frame-and-outer-hull - construction like in our case: every case needs different solutions. You've choosen the right one for your project. But it is important to mention (if somebody else is going the Armaflex-Way) that Armaflex is NOT an insulation (in the classic way). It is, for sure in some way, but what it really does is to transport the Dew-Point away from the cold metal surface and locates it somewhere within it's thickness. Means: the moisture isn't gone, it is just located away from the surface. The key to sucess by using Armaflex is this 5 mil airgap between the inner surface of the Armaflex and your wall covering. This allows the moisture to evaporate on the WARM side of the Armaflex - and everything will be fine !
Wow, i love that I finally found a youtuber who actually has sustainable merch 💚✨
This was great. In my own research concerning insulation I came to the same conclusion. Closed cell foam rolls are great for keeping moisture away from the walls and are super easy to install. Tough I believe these are harder to buy outside Europe, could be wrong. I recently saw sheep wool mats being sold as natural camper insulation. Wool absorbs and releases moisture freely without getting moldy like glassfiber. As long as your space is properly ventilated sheep wool or even something like rockwool might be an option. but as you said, lots of opinions. Your climate is a big factor as well.
After I researched a bit, it seems that all depends on what the wall is made of, because if it's metal - condensed water on it is not going to produce mould. But if it's wood, or other organic material - then yes, the mould could grow on/in that.
About wool... I'm wondering about it. It's organic right. So mould can grow on/in it. I'm not sure if my guess is correct, but in my mind it seems that if you say have a metal wall, and put wool against it (without creating an air gap between the two) - it sounds to me that mould will love such combination.
So basically, in my mind, one of the most important things in insulation is to create an air gap between the outside wall and the rest of insulation layers. Plus do it in a way that there won't be any thermal bridges (thermal breaking seems another cornerstone of the correct insulation, if thermal bridges are present - I've heard that the R value of the insulation materials you use, can decrease drastically...)
Very detailed and beautiful solar set up and insulation and windows. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Thanks for the insulation ideas! I'm working on trailers housing science equipment in harsh environments, and was looking for insulation ideas that could be implemented quickly. Great work, looks like a fun way to travel (lucky dog!).
I am very happy that you have made available the logos of your new shirts for free. I don't know if I will download it but surely, if I do it I will not do it for free. This initiative (in addition to spreading the message of equality) would allow me to have a shirt also for my sweet weight (about 7XXL) which is normally not marketed in advertising shirts. At least here in Italy.
Ciao and good continuation with your camper; good idea to leave the insulation detached from the internal wall: the air flow improves the evaporation of the condensate.
E x c e l l e n t work, Laura! As always. Love the shirt and respect: You put you downloads where your mouth is with these print-it-yourself design downloads. Thank you for being awesome - always! Cheers! JM
My kind of maker!
Good job Laura!
Horse box is looking good!👍✌️😊🙏🏼⚒⚒
Laura, you got magic in you! It's so easy to watch, listen and love you and everything about you!
Be well and keep sharing that magic. ⚘✌💕👍⚘
We did the same in our camper, armaflex with a tiny gap to the wooden panels, and so far after three years so problems at all! However we used the non-sticky version and a separate glue, which was a pain in the a**. The vapors were despite of a good ventilation not bearable for a longer time, but you need to work quickly because the glue dissolves the material a little bit to make it airtight. It was not fun, so the self sticking version is probably a good investment! We had a little problem with the sikaflex on the roof window, it didn’t stick to the plastic properly and we redid it after a year using dekaseal, kind of a gum consistency which doesn’t get hard and just makes it watertight, it’s not a glue. But this works great now and I think it depends on the plastic if it works with sikaflex. Your project is really inspiring by the way, since you started I have around thousand ideas to improve our camper 😅💪🏼
Ah cool! Good to know it seems to work! Thanks!
I really like the beginning of your lecture about the insulation. Insulation is definitely not a one size fits all. Please keep up the good work.
Hi Laura,
You're making good progress! I was just wandering... The solar panel ON TOP of the roof rack will make the solar panel vulnerable to damage from the luggage you're taking with you on top of the roof.
If you flip / rotate the brackets and bolt the solar panel UNDER of the roof rack, the rack itself is a 'barrier' / distance between the solar panel and your luggage. The crossbars of the roof rack are so thin that the loss of sunlight / energy of the solar panel will probably only be very small. Good luck with your projects!
Willem
Nice progress with the build . It is never too much on your channel . Keep doing it your way - we love it . Thank you Laura !
I see a new Laura Kampf video, I immediately click! Laura, you do great work; you are such an inspiration; and I really love your new t-shirts and--most importantly--the message. Peace.
This how they insulate the cabin of yachts from inside to avoid humidity problems! In the case of yachts they use a soft rubber attached by a glue in similar way that you did it! What it does is to increase the dew point of the walls, probably you will get humidity on the surface of the windows! Greetings
Bravo Laura! Great overview of three key parts of of a camper build and great initiative for the shirt. Cheers from Canada.
You are a wonderful human Laura. Also very talented and inspirational. When I watch your vids I simply must start my dream of making creating. I will let you know how I get on 👍. 😎
Love you and your videos. Thank you for your practical advice
The thing with the logo for free download is very very nice from you... 💪 I discovered your channel a few days ago and I'm definitely in love with it! Great job, nice videos... well done!!! 👏👏 Looking forward to come to Köln again.. cheers from Italy
Great video Laura, I really enjoyed you talking throughout the whole project and explaining the reasoning behind your decisions! The camper is coming on amazingly ;)
I definitely learned really valuable info which I would love to use for my own projects in the future. As usual, enjoyed it!
It's so good when you can see it coming together, good job!
This is such a great series, thank you very much! Very sensible choices, also with the closed pore insulation, I think. But I still wonder a bit about the sliding window. The sikaflex is surely more than enough until the sun eats the earth, but especially when driving through the rain and there is basically standing water on the lower sliding seals, I would be a it unsure about how tight it is...
Thanks Laura! I'm currently converting a 60 foot yacht into my home. Your advice is a great help. Currently, I'm using closed-cell spray foam insulation.
Thank you for the video and for the logo design Laura.
Alles Gute
I love me some goal zero stuff especially the little battery /fan.
laura, you are so unassuming and straightforward it makes learning from you a great pleasure!. cheers r&k
Oh, dein Projekt ist wunderbar!
Hi
I am working with big ventilation systems and I have see that armaflex is used on cooling pipes as isolation and to stop condens to form on the pipes, so I think you are good👍👍
Great advice Laura and a fantastic message at the end, EQUALITY stands for everything in my book 📖, as my late parents brought me and my brother up to respect an individual for there achievements and not by the colour of there skin or there sexual or religious perspective, and as always I look forward to seeing your next video on your tiny camper.
Economic equality, too. People still don't realize how detrimental it is to have billions of poor or very poor people and a handful of rich or TOO rich people.
We as humanity should strive towards meeting everyone's basic human needs, allow everyone of us to have a dignified life, and not strive towards having millionaires and billionaires. I believe that someday the economic inequality will be seen as we see today slavery - not the most wise thing humanity did.
Armaflex is also my favorit stuff. Good job.
Thank you, as always for adding a smile and inspiration to my day!
Be well, be safe, and take good care!
Hey Laura, love the show. One thing I would add is a small humidity meter that shows % of moisture in the air. Mould starts to grow at 60% humidity so keep it below that and there should not be an issue. If it is too cold to have the window open for ventilation you could get a dehumidifier.
With a small space like this camper, opening the window and door for 30 s should remove most of the moisture in the air without cooling the camper.
@@Froudd
Maybe not if you live in a moist environment. And/or maybe not in winter (humid air). But I'm not sure.
Some insulate incorrectly with vapour barriers which traps the moisture where it shouldn't be, say on wood (where mould would grow). So I'm guessing it's not like one can insulate in a random way and just rely on ventilating now and then the place.
Dehumidifier sounds like a great idea. With automatic turning on and off, when the humidity reaches certain level.
Fantastic video Laura! You are great! I love it. Big up
Armaflex, Rubitex or any closed cell rubber based insulation is the gold standard standard of refrigeration piping insulation. Your implementation is a really good condensation block since it adheres directly to the metal. Closed cell rubber insulation can absorb water over time under extreme situations, but in your situation it’ll protect you for many years. 👍🏼
I love this project, can't wait to see the final result.
Hey, you're wonderful. Just in case you didn't know. Thanks for doing what you do.
Excellent videos. Thank you. Danke
Wish I'd known of Armaflex when I started my van build. The installation looks much cleaner and neater than the spray installation I used.
Laura, To help you save energy with your Goal Zero, check to see what your lights are pulling as far as amps and such. Basis Christmas lights can pull a lot of amps where as a goal Zero light - or other solar lighting- often pulls much less. Also, if you're looking at refrigerator or electrical coolers, do the same thing. Check to see how much power they pull and use. There are great RUclips videos talking about lights and coolers. Best of luck and I enjoy your videos. Skillet
I must agree Laura, that there are many options for insulation, and I found that spray foam is the absolute best. High R-value, low weight it seals out/in moisture like none other, it is easy to install, and lastly it holds the project together!
Thanks, Laura Great Job! Love the videos!
Well done Laura
Windows look great and the solar panel looks like the perfect solution.
Hi Laura
Great update.
I'm joining the RUclips-Camper-Maker-Community, building a teardrop from scratch. The project has only begun, but episodes are coming on my Chanel
For the insulation, I'll be using wood wool panels (40 mm). Something you didn't really mention I find important is to put vents ; a opening skylight and aeration grids
I'll go for your Yeti solution, it seems really flexible !
See you sometime, maybe on a makers event with the campers
Thanks fof another thought provoking video, Laura - the world is a weird place right now, but I'm glad you keep releasing content showing creativity and positivity. Happy Sunday ! :)
Been watching Instagram and you got over your hump. You had a great solution with the masking tape on the window! Really like the motto and design for your shirts. A home run.
This turned out so good. The windows are awesome.
Great video as always. I love how stylish this camper is turning out! Your personal design sense really shines through.
Großartige Ideen und Umsetzung. Bin gespannt, wie es weitergeht.
Love the learning 👩🏫
Great installment of the the tiny camper, I like the insulation looks relatively easy to install.
You are a wonderful person thank you for the great information
I'm really enjoying the progress on this project and very much looking forward to seeing it completed.
Thank you for sharing the logo. You rock 😊
I converted a 5 window school bus into a mini motorhome last year. I still don't have solar and must use a generator to charge batteries. Thanks for giving me the incentive to start looking into adding solar. I always love your videos!
I love your videos and your way of filming and talking
Keep Going!
You're amazing 💕 I look forward every week to your fantastic videos
Another great video Laura. You are generous to make the t-shirt design downloadable--thanks!
I LOVE ur videos, regardless of their length and tbh I love it a bit more when they are LONGER :-) ❤️
great design!!
I love your videos Laura! ❤️
I’ve just finished my van, a transit connect, I used recycled plastic material 50mm insulation for large holes and then 9mm foil backed self adhesive over all the surfaces, cost around £130 total! Also used goal zero tech it’s great! Thank you for these videos I love seeing your work!
I love you! Thank you to be a such great human.
Nice progress. Looking forward to see what's next :)
You’re so good! 💛🇬🇧💛
I haven’t seen mention of refrigeration yet. I have the amazing Ausranvik 26-Quart freezer fridge, with true 12 volt compressor (capable of ice cream-cold temperatures.). You’d probably go at least a bit smaller for space reasons. I can say for sure that you’d want/need a second 100 watt panel, and perhaps a 1200 watt-hour power bank to ensure a practical setup that includes 24 hour mini-refrigerator capability. The 100 watt panel and 500 Wh power bank will surely get behind every day...
Sehr informatives Video. Vielen Dank für Deine Mühe. Der Anhänger ist ein cooles Projekt. Viel Erfolg weiterhin. Grüße aus Thüringen.
