I have found the chain kits from Craft Supply to be the most cost effective at about 40 cents each if you disregard the shipping. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/65/5329/Turners-Select-Light-Pull-Chain-Kit-5-Pack?term=chain These are cheaper than 3' lengths of chain when you have to buy the extra little couplers and figure out how to add a ball stop. But I have also had good luck at Ace where they sold chain by the foot and you could buy all of the couplings and bell or ball fasteners. You can buy the couplers at Walmart a bit cheaper than the big box home development stores like this www.lowes.com/pd/Harbor-Breeze-6-Pack-1-58-in-Multi-Metal-Pull-Chain-Connectors/1000003150
Thanks again for a great video. I searched it today to rewatch, as my wife just had me hang a pair of custom made Grecian blinds. I needed to turn two pulls for the curtains.
Thanks Mike. I just came in the room and noticed the fan pull knob was gone. By chance, I turned on to your web site and there was may solution! Keep up the good work.
Mike - you pulled a fast one and snuck in one of those truly profound hints that typically never get said. I've had the problem many times that drill bits don't center in my jacobs chuck. It never occurred to me that a simple solution is to put the bit into the chuck before mounting it in the tailstock - when you can still see what you are doing! Thanks - that's a really great suggestion.
Thanks for sharing the video. Especially the methods for holding drilling and driving the stock. much appreciated and look forward to seeing more. Now to go and try for myself 😊.
I'm with you on CA for finishing. I use it on some pens, but have found that it doesn't work well on anything with any texturing ... leaves white deposits in the grooves.
I am a bit suspect of the Morse tapers on wood lathes. If you use a Morse taper that has been machined properly as on a metal lathe it is very uncommon for a tool to come loose. I see yours popped out of the head stock once. Nice project though. I need to do some of those.
shit..i thought i was already subscribed to you, i am now 😁.ive just got my first lathe (a very cheap one) so be prepared for some questions from across the pond 😲😁
I went back at listened and did not hear a problem. If the volume was too low you can raise it on a particular video or increase the volume on your device. I did not get any other comments on the sound quality. What am I missing?

Thanks, Brian. They are fun little projects. Umm. I have not turned any in a while. Need to turn some more.

They say to teach is to learn twice. I figured that out when I did this video. Glad it was a useful tip.
Nice light pulls mike I will make some when I get time many thanks john.

This is a great little skill builder. Safe turning.

Yes, a wood turned Morse taper will not have the same precision as machined steel one.

Congrats on your first lathe!
another good video Mike. I have lots of scraps!
Go for it!
How much would that sell for finished
Not much but they make fast and easy gifts.
did you say a good drilling speed was 5000?
If I did I mispoke. 1000
Couldn’t hear Mike’s narrating most of the time.
