As a violist, I am so glad I didn't see this performance live as I'd have made a scene. When this was over at home I started clapping, got up, hopped a little and shouted 'F*** yes, Marc!' haha I mean the tone, the legato connectedness of those double stops in the second half, man I think this is the best performance of the Vieuxtemps I've heard.

What an absolute beautiful interpretation of this piece. I used to play viola in the garden state philharmonic but my career and family put that in the back burner so to speak. However, my son cane to me , unprovoked and said he wants to play viola just like his mom ♥️. He started private lessons this year and is progressing very well. I showed him this video and he was in awe. Thank you for sharing how incredibly beautiful the usually overlooked viola truly is.

I’m not normally a huge fan of this piece, but this rendition was quite impressive. I’ve played through it a few times, and it’s not overwhelming difficult from a technical standpoint, but the musicality really makes or breaks it, and you nailed it. Very well done.

Making the trill in the third measure from the upper note is such a wonderful choice, that gives impulse to the melody by avoiding it to crash on the repeating of the note. And it produces a savoury dissonance a flat/g.

I think Europe is a great place to make music and if you'd like, you are welcome to come audition to the conservatory where I teach now. It would be an opportunity to speak/learn french and live in Europe.
