Here's my take. This morning I had to get up and go to work. I'm at work now. Later I get to go home but I'll have to go to bed early for work again. Rinse and repeat. I can't fucking wait until my biggest problems are a few waves and wind from a not ideal direction.😂 I get it that it sucks but think about what else you might be doing right now and I'm sure it'll make it better. I made a video of myself riding my escooter to work in the snow and ice and freezing temperatures this past winter and uploaded it to my channel so that whenever I'm feeling like you are about the wind or something I can watch it and remember how much worse things could be.
I stopped immediately at 4'25" when the uploader asks if the analysis he gave was interesting or helpful to answer him: yes, I enjoyed that analysis/explanation given immensely, thank you.
I have to say, I’m very impressed with you boating skills. I’ve been following you since you were hitchhiking across the pacific. 👍👍👍 This boat is preparing you for a great future.
I really enjoy watching and I really enjoy your explanation about sailing. And for you you are learning so much to carry forward you will be able to repair and do anything on a boat that will serve you well the rest of your life
It was very interesting to see the description of winds and currents and especially the variations according to course and type of boat that you described at the beginning of the video. Of course I would like to hear about it whenever you have the chance to do so. Thanks for all the information in your videos
You’re a great informative teacher. If at all possible I would enjoy you visiting with the couple that’s in their 70s. Thanks for making Sunday morning sailing with you an adventure!
The explanation of the challenges of sailing the Caribbean at the beginning of the video excellent. Costco sells a 10 foot 10 inch inflatable dinghy for $500 with oars and pump takes up to 15hp outboard, needs wheels for the beach, needs chaps. Tobin Sports inflatable boat made by Bestwaycorp
I jump right into things as well and damn the consequences. I run into a lot of problems, but when emerge I am better for it and know more than most who take the safe route. Nice videos. I am getting the courage to want to buy my first sail boat.
Hey Huub, one little trick when dealing with oil: put the hole in your oil bottle higher than the rest of the bottle so that the oil comes out smoothly, rather than the 'glug glug glug' way when the hole is on the bottom. Your oil is fighting the vacuum inside the bottle, you need to be able to let air inside as the bottle empties
Huub! New viewer here but I've been binge watching your videos from the last year. I really admire how you're able to keep a positive attitude thru your videos even when the going gets really rough. I also really love how you always say "Let's go" whenever you're about to go check something new out, it's definitely a good theme to your videos. You should get a hat or shirt with LET'S GO! printed on it! Might be a good idea for Huub merchandise too...
FYI I wanted to make sure you know when making wire butt splice connections that you can get sealing water proof butt splice fittings for a increased price that may be very worth it in wet boat environment/salt water! After the cripping the connector you heat it with lighter, heat gun ect. and it heat shrinks and seals itself up!
Was the Budget Marine Store really budget marine? 🙂 I really enjoyed seeing the difficulties you have with sailing in the East Caribbean. This vlog was like watching a Huub University class, Boat Maintenance 101.
Hey Hubb! Good video once again. Looks like you are getting that old Alberg 30 back into shape. Question: if you knew then what you know now would you have chosen the 37? Or another? I know she's taken you on good adventures. I have a reason for asking. I found a 1967 hull on a trailer hidden in the pines on the gulf coast and am considering getting her and doing a refit
I mean, looking back it always seems easy! I was scared at the time to handle a big(ger) boat. And I was afraid I couldn't afford the upkeep. But no matter what choice you make, I think that a 40 to 42 foot is an ideal size for many things. Family, friends, speed of boat etc. But there are a lot of questions in game when buying a boat. Also on someones first boat you often do lots wrong. and its cheaper to do things the first time wrong on a smaller boat. But one thing is sure, comfort of travel and liveaboard increases greatly with a 38ft+ boat. (also, take my advice with a pinch of salt, I've seen many boats by now but have only owned one ...)
Hey, I live in Trinidad and was wondering if you ever cruised here... The fuel and other gear is supposed more reasonably priced. I have a similar bio to yours, worked in IT for majority of life and now attempting to transition to boat life. Business and modern day acquisitions never really attracted me and I've found solace in minimalism. Would be great to get some tips and other advice from you.
@@HuubVlogs You should consider it. Its super close to Grenada although Tobago (Turtle Beach) is the real sailing gem of the twin islands. The people here are a friendly mix of various races and ethnicities so the food is literally a melting pot of diverse cuisine and spices too.... Asian, Arabic, African and Indian to be exact. Trinidad has a few eco tourism sancturies - like Asa Wright Nature Center and La Vega Estate - but is also the more industrial/ commercial island. As such, boatyards and repair facilities are more accessible here. There are a couple boat buliding companies located near the Chaguaramas area.
@davecopp - you get what you pay for - any boat buyer accepts that. Also, if you decide to pay less, you may complete the upgrades yourself. Or… Pay more, and there is less to do. Simple.
@@HuubVlogs I like your videos and the constantly breaking of things makes them very interesting and entertaining for us sitting on a coach at home. I can´t even imagine how frustrating it must be for you. All the best.
@@Kit2Canada I believe it was Mark Twain who said that a free boat was the one who cost him the most. I am still looking for a free one, because while living on it, I can take my time to refit it.
Loved the explanation. The problem with the work is you crammed too much in the video. Instead of putting in several different boat jobs, spend a lot of time on one boat job. And don't just fix it, reimagine it. I liked the upgrade to the water tank. However, I know this might not be possible if you used 5200 or something, but if you could have cleaned up the repair to the entire top of the tank that would have been impressive and would have significantly improved the boat. Those control cables are extremely utilitarian, also. They are definitely an improvement over what was there already, because they work as they are supposed to, but they are unsightly. The idea should always be don't just repair a crappy system, improve the design of the system. If you always do that, you won't throw good money after bad. And your boat will slowly get more and more valuable. Remember, the boat that you want to sell will be coveted by someone. But if there is too many projects to your boat, they might not realize just how much they really want it. We live in a materialistic society. Captain James of Sailing Tritea originally purchased his Alberg 30 for $2,500. Of course, your's is in much better shape since his engine was ceased. But if you look at his boat now? it is gorgeous. Your's could be as well. No matter what you do, I'll keep watching:) So ignore me if you want.
I’ve learned so much about this boat too over the years! I’m scared every time you are. I get anxiety every time you get it. I stayed up every night you’ve stayed up. No talking about the storm we’ve insured. Haha! love you Huub! ❤🥑
Your main sail looks like a big pair of stretched out grandpa undies, but you make them work 👍, I hope your next boat is a little less work intensive, more time for fun😊

Huub... That was a great explanation of the Caribbean, hurricane season and the different points of sail. Thanks!
Agree, I didn’t know and now I do. Thanks mate!

Hey Hubb!
Appreciated the analysis at the start of the video, very informative and interesting to learn.
Take care 👍 Amazing Vlogs 👏
Just started watching your videos. Saw you boat for sale and found your U-Tube channel. Good video's. Day to day life .
Yes the wind direction was very Informative I am going to be on the Caribbean and it's good to know The months. Thank you. Great video
Very good explanations and presentations
I liked the Caribbean wind explanation !!

That's the kind of analysis that I was looking for, thanks! And I will Subscribe! ( A30 is one of my top list boats )

I loved this analysis....things most of us dreamers never think about
Great information.

For a guy who claims to be rather new at sailing, very impressive! Good work.
great vid Huub loved the wind wave explanation at least you are warm battling those trades.

Glad you like it bart!
Loved the wind and navigation lesson! the rest seems to be a weekly recap of how to work on your boat and keep it running :-)
Glad seeing you with 160K SUBS!

It's true you are doing a survival course in boat maintenance. Well done ! Exhausting just watching how much work you do.

Thanks for a very clear explanation of many factors affecting sailing
very very clear. Thanks

Yes more of these analysts
good job Huub sail repaired
Are you having a lot of leeway with that full keel? Seems like that would track pretty well as compared to a fin keel.
Love the explanations
Liked the POS stuff early on.

My advice is to not depend solely on electronics for navigation - always carry paper chart backups.
I hoop your are ok
seeing the dolphins must be magical
dont keep the batteries in the bilge! put them higher! and the bilgepompe near the electric its a no go!
Thanks
Please more explanations like this
Okay Jeroen, will work on that !
Handig naaimachientje heb je daar, hopelijk heb je die niet vaak nodig👍⚓😊
Hahaha, ik kan er tegenwoordig zelfs mn schoenen mee repareren :)
You can buy all parts seperate and build your own watermaker i saw on youtube. Saves you a lot of cash.
You look like you're having a good time, that's the point right? If so then you win!
Sounds like poor planning to me. Such things are predictable. Can you recommend a place where the wind always blows where I want it to?
nice video. If anyone has a battery in the bilge, it needs to be moved.
👍. Thank you for showing others the truthful side of living on a sailboat. Worts and all. 🤗. Your videos are great! S/V Cork~Texas🇺🇸
Thanks a lot!
whats your thought on making a water intake line spit in to the bulge to pump out the water with the engine?
❤️
Your last videos are honest but not a very good advertisement for selling your boat. Take care.
I know. I have no interest in not being honest. Every boat has issues and breaks. Mine are just on the internet.

Does PredictWind have the same problem as Navionics?
"Scientia potentia est" Gratius!
My choke to kill the engine isn't functioning at all. So I just adjust the cable length at the lever on the engine?
Pfff.. good question Jeroen. It can be many different solutions. Cables like I bought are not adjustable in length...

this is why if i do something like this. i am not going to do it in a boat like that.
I like the sailing instruction content as someone who recently took the Day Skipper course but haven't yet had an opportunity to practise!
Huub, your Caribbean videos are excellent! Perfect boat and all the mini crises are a big plus!
Thanks Paul!

Yes maybe you but a lemon sailboat but with all you now are prepare for anything to have a better sailboat and be batter sorvaivol man in sea
How much do new sails cost?
Good question Steven! They are quite expensive. But as a RUclipsr I might be able to get them sponsored some day.

Why to go Boat Dr.
A choke, on a diesel engine?
Definitely not a choke. It advances the injection timing slightly for easier cold start
The dolphins are way cool.
