My grandfather took me to Katz’s first time in 1951; I’m now 74 and still enjoy going there for the pastrami. There is enough meat in the sandwich to feed four people. It is an institution for New Yorkers.
When I was in the Army during the Vietnam war, my father sent me a Katz’s salami; which continued the tradition, since my grandfather sent him a Katz’s salami while he fought in the Pacific during WW2. There is a neon sign that has been there for over 80 years that says: “Send a salami to your boy in the Army”.
I like Dr. Brown’s Cel-Ray Tonic; second choice is Dr. Brown’s Cream Soda.

Pastrami on rye with pickles and mustard is one of my all time favourite sandwiches - that one looks out of this world. It is pricey (I’d assume a good deli sandwich in the UK is about £8- $9.70 at today’s exchange rates), but as a one off, I’d pay $26 to try one!

Another excellent eating video Jon. Like the way you put this video together by comparing these three "famous' NYC Restaurants. I need to get to Katz's Deli. There sandwiches are a ridiculous size but they look nice. I hate Pastrami so would need to try something else but other's in my family would share one. It does look quality Brisket. Long lines are the only thing that put me off. You really have to commit to going there. I also love the way New York does Pizza by the slice. Not a European thing although that Joe's Pizza looks like they use a ridiculous amount of Cheese. No one knows Pizza like you Jon so have to take your advice here. Nice you pointed out what Joe's did during the pandemic. Magnolia Bakery is not the type of food I like to eat. Great job an always.

The first time I went, i was flustered because I was in the queue and didn't know what to have and didn't have much time to look at the options. lol. To put this into better perspective for those not living in the area: You are not paying $26 for a sandwich. You are paying for exorbitant labor costs, monstrous utilities and rent costs and a sandwich. Guys behind the counter are making at least $25/hour. If the business owner doesn't own the building, their rent is at least $50,000 a month. A MONTH.
