@@marveen6372 Just because it's home-made does not mean its healthy. For example; seed oils, sugars, chemical flavors, preservatives, and food colorings can all be found in home-cooked foods, including these street meals.
Love Jon’s reaction to good food. Takes bite, chews twice, closes eyes and lifts chin with the most contented look. Best compliment someone can give. Kudos!

My most favourite Videos of Here be Barr is where affordable food is featured..I will never say word "Cheap" because Food is never Cheap it's a blessings to living beings no matter what living form you are 🙏🏻🌎🌍🌏🙏🏻
@@HereBeBarrCanadian maple foods are my favorite today but I know you are from South America. Crazy where people come from cause they don't lose their taste buds.
Gotta love Mama Jo’s, she’s a star and total legend as you said❤. Petey’s cart is great as well. I love all the cheap breakfast options in NYC. You always put it together so well ❤
Mama Jo is correct. If you do what you love, you will be a success. Jerry Seinfeld said the same thing. If you go into something for the money, you will fail.
I'm so glad to see Momma Joe's is still there! I saw a food doc on her many years ago and she seemed like the sweetest kindest soul. One day I would love to visit her cart myself. Great video, thank you guys!
I'm long gone from NYC but this video made me homesick (briefly). So happy to see Mama Jo again, when I was ever on the UWS Grays was always a must have. And instead of standing behind some dipshit ordering a thousand things in their coffee a coffee regular is the essence of New York. Cheers from the left coast1
Thank you Jon, I am going to New York for the first time with my 12 year old in April. I am 30 and it's just me and him. I am extremely nervous but your videos have really helped me a lot and I feel a bit more confident now, thank you
If it helps, there is certainly crime here but it's not nearly as bad as the news will make it out to be. Definitely have some cash on hand as many smaller shops in NYC are cash only and try Adels while you're here.
I'm half Sicilian, but I must honestly admit that Greek extra virgin olive oil is the best in the entire world. Super smooth and creamy with not a trace of bitterness and no nasty aftertaste which unfortunately shows up all too often in the oils of my homeland & Messina. Personally, I love EVOO made from freshly pressed kalamata olives. SUPER YUM YUM!!
I spent a month in the Bronx and the thing I miss the most about nyc is the food. So much good food. I just wanted to eat all day long when there. It was truly the best food I have ever had. Pizza to die for and so much yummy restaurants. I had a burger the size of a dinner plate. It was delicious and so filling.
I’ll be taking my first trip to New York in July and I learn about 10 more places I want to eat at every time I watch Jon’s channel. This city has a vibrant food culture that I can’t wait to try.
I was wondering when you were going to do the Gray's Papaya breakfast items after the last video you visited them! Also, all these choices seem like the most NYC breakfast places and people you could find! Love it!
Jon….EVERY VIDEO…EVERY VIDEO. You HIT it out of the ballpark! I’m getting a Cadillac tomorrow morning! Thank you ALL for a fun, delicious vid! 🎉🙋🏼♀️🎉🙋🏼♀️🎉🙋🏼♀️🎉🙋🏼♀️
On the map, Gray's Papaya is on Amsterdam and 72nd. Not Broadway, but a short block from Broadway, because they cross there. I heard the Papaya King relocated on the east side a block or two or so from where they were for years. I ate there in the 70s lol
omg i visited that greek cafe in astoria in 2022, i'm greek myself and that cafe was so good. the owner was a fellow photographer, super nice guy and he was a victim of rent hike and couldnt afford to keep it open anymore. his bougatsa was the best i had outside of greece.
This is very useful to watch. I like the idea of staying not far away from one of these places and not having to go too far for breakfast before exploring.
Hi Jon, Thanks for the wonderful video of cheap eats in NYC! I’ve got to visit NYC just for the food. Welcome to Ben on your channel. Have a great weekend and thank you for your constant entertainment! Best Wishes, Peter
When traveling, including vacations, I loved to wander around a bit, and find a diner near my hotel, get MUCH better food for a SMALL fraction of the price. Perfect for breakfast and lunch. Then for dinner you could eat healthier, but at least only shell out much money once a day. Obviously, in my 60's, I have to be MUCH more careful re my diet than I was in my 20's and 30's. So, sigh, diner food is a thing of the past.
Great video Jon! Always enjoy seeing some of the more obscure spots. Showing off the man, the myth, the legend himself 🎉 So glad Petey's getting the recognition he deserves, super sweet guy who's gonna tell you exactly what he's thinkin. 💛🖤💛🖤
Tax included?? (( shocked if it is )) Spanakopita Yummy and delicious. I have seen it as high as $$15 in Chicago and yes I am including Tax. Pastry yum. Just call it an egg sandwich yum. Absolutely love doughnuts, that looked like Yuk. Outstanding all around
When I was a messenger in NYC back in the 90's, you could get a great breakfast in Chinatown for very little cash! Rice noodles and sauce, stewed pork and rice, steamed pork buns. Very good and cheap!
Dang! I wished you had posted this video a week and a half ago. I stayed in New York last weekend, and my hotel was just 3 blocks further down Park Avenue. I know I passed Petey's at least half a dozen times. I'll have to check it out when I return in June.
I will definitely have to visit these places the next time I make it to NYC! Although I found a great breakfast place near where I stayed in Hell's Kitchen last time, but it's a sit down and not under $5.
I was in Texas and went to a local spot for breakfast and… when I asked for a bacon egg and cheese sandwich they looked at me like I was crazy.. I mean how hard is it to put bacon eggs and cheese on a roll.. seriously 😒
When traveling in the northeast (big cities) on business in the 80's, I quickly realized you could easily get a satisfying diner breakfast for like two bucks. Having a similar amount of food for dinner at a typical restaurant for dinner would cost 5 to 10 times as much. Much more at a fancy place. Being a frugal person, I wondered how restaurants didn't just PRINT money at dinner.
Grays papaya is amazing.. damn I miss New York City. My friend had an apartment there back in like 2010. I miss the vibe. I’m in South Jersey. I gotta spend more time there this summer.
Cool video ! Thank you. Bot the most and only annoying thing about USA is, that you dont know how much you have to pay for Something. It says 5 dollars but in the end you pay the tax in plus. Why dont they just write the complete price with tax included in the menu ? It works in germany perfectly. If something costs 5 euros here you pay 5 euros and not 5.46 euro because of the Tax
Gray's Papaya 2 dogs, onion sauce and mustard, always stop here. Haven't been since CV but man 2 dogs was often give for the change in someone's pockets
I was really surprised about the prices food prices in Brookfield place. 10-15 dollars for a meal is way lower from what I expected. In my small forgotten European country, you can`t get a lot cheaper than this. 33 cm pizzas cost about 12 €. Not to mention in a fancy restaurant prices can skyrocket to 50 € per lunch. Salaries are a lot lower tho (average is 1300 € per month) so to put that into context, food in NYC isn`t that big of a deal.
What’s the etiquette for eating from food vendors? Do you take your food and keep walking, or do you just stand off to the side somewhere? I fear being in the way of everyone

Hi! Coming to NYC and wondering should I tip the food trucks or how does it work?
NO! Do not tip servers at food trucks/carts. Make sure you don't get ripped off either by them. If prices are not listed, there's a reason 👀
