- Опубликовано: 17 янв 2022
- Game streaming services have come on leaps and bounds since the early days of OnLive, Gaikai and even PlayStation Now. In this video, we take a look at the new RTX 3080 tier for GeForce Now, putting the service through its paces against Microsoft's xCloud and Google in terms of image quality, latency and more. On top of that, native PC and local Xbox Series X comparisons also feature.

Would be nice to see an updated version of this video in 2023 with the 4080 results.
These in-depth comparisons are why I subscribed. Keep up the great work!
Although there's nothing really wrong with this review. and If I would choose a streaming service today, Geforce Now is the one I would go for. However, DF as a channel has become extremely nvidia-centric since the launch of the RTX-cards. I have long had this feeling that they have some kind of undisclosed partnership with nvidia. And the more you analyze their video content from this perspective the more apparent it becomes. How they word things sorrounding nvidia and their products, an. In many cases everything DF does is in alignment with the requirements nvidia has on media partners... So I would take the PC content with a grain of salt and watch more independant media like Gamer's Nexus, Hardware Unboxed etc. professional channels that are more consumer focused and call companies out whenever their business tactics are dirty and not consumer friendly.
@@PixelShade - Hardware Unboxed is independent? Not in the slightest. If you think DF is Nvidia-centric then HWUB is AMD-centric.
DF is as independent as they come. AMD just needs to release some worthwhile products.
@@icy1007 LMAO 🤣 Hardware Unboxed never hesitates to call out AMD when they need to. Have you even watched Steve's review of the 6500XT ? HE RIPPED INTO THE 6500XT more than ANY reviewer, even Gamer's Nexus.
But hey, continue shilling for Nvidia. Just like Alex btw. He's very knowledgeable and often true, but he's SUCH A FANBOY for Nvidia it's showing almost everytime and he can't stop trying to shit on AMD.
I love this comparison. You should compare the 3 tiers of GeForce now. See how much they degrade or improve the experience for each. Please please please!
Free-bad, Priority- in some games good, in some bad, 3080 - quite good.
@@thestepback Yes, priority is great for single player games, competitive not at all (unless maybe you have a GFN cloud server in your town)
No point, they all have good quality, even on the free version you get a good looking feed.
@@ItsAkile input lag may be different though because you pay for better input lag performance.
that's right and also throw ps5 input latency, and psnow games, I've played some old school fighting games on there and it was fine
Xcloud is just so damn convenient. I play on my phone and laptop. Plus, the game library is immense. It would be nice if they improved on latency and image quality once its out of beta. I love the competition regardless
The input latency is horrendous on xCloud. Fps games like doom are just down right unplayable. If they could get xcloud up to geforce now levels of streaming xcloud could be incredible.
It should also be playable on PC with keyboard and mouse support at least on singleplayer, story-driven games if they want to reach high amount of users.
try Stadia , here there is no latency , and by subscribing I receive several very cool games in the subscription ! and if you don't want to subscribe to anything you can buy the games and play them without a subscription !! and there are also free to play games !! yes , totally free to play like Destiny 2 among others !!
i play geforce now on my tv , phone , laptop ect. i have access to over 4 times the amount of games and its actually as good if not better than a local consoles and most ppl pc ( unless you have 4000$ for overpriced hardware ) just saying.
@mick2798 I think they fixed it because I was playing Halo infinte big team battle multiplayer on my phone and it ran really good
Awesome work, Tom. A fantastic comparison with so much work pulled in.
I'd really love for you to periodically continue testing cloud, in addition to native platforms of course. More and more I play on cloud. The Game Pass library being as good as it is, if DF could keep their feet to the fire about latency I think it might get Xbox off their butts.
It’s still in beta.
@@UPhlask irrelevant comment
Agreed, it's been months since they acknowledged it
@@1meen1 i think it's still early for cloud, the latency thing is a tough problem to solve and you'll never be able to solve it for everyone either.
@@Dudelee1 This will be a challenging task considering it relies on the end user connection.
Amazing video! I can't imagine how much work this took to put all of this information together. Thanks Tom!
It's crazy to think about the fact, that for the price of my PC with an actual 3080 in it, I could run everything the same way on GFN for 12 YEARS!!
With the current GPU prices, making full builds are just a waste of money, this is definitely is a good alternative to chose atm.
Wait, what Was the cost? I can buy PC with rtx 4070 for 1500€ now, wich Is 6 years of GeForce now btw... The cost of the service Will rise eventually, so the cards (rtx 5080 maybe). My problem Is the lag, even with ftth connection the feeling Is not the same
The RTX3080 Server is super close to my location. (
That's insane wow
Bruh im in Singapore with 5ms latency and you can feel that delay specially on Apex legends. This is only good on RPG games. but for FPS like APEX nope
@@qwerty6789x tbh apex is a not worthy game anyway with controller aim assist. Of course you feel a tiny difference to local 144hz+ setup but it's not as much as I ever imagined it would be. Comparing to my physical 3080 it's definitely worth to get if you can't get a gpu :-). Prequesite is a decent connection though.
@@Sh4kki if you’re bad you can’t feel a difference.
Amazing job! Always a pleasure learning the details!
were the specs of the internet connection this was tested on literally not even mentioned? i've watched thru twice and idk if i missed it or
6:47 well, i9-109000k is a few generations ahead of current Intel offerings, so not surprising
🤭
Lol I thought the same thing
Excellent comparison and review, thank you DF & Tom!
Great video. It would be good to see how this compares to using something like Steam Link locally as well.
Mind telling us what nominal latency is reported within GFN's (ctrl+alt+f6) on PC, or network test, and by Stadia Enhanced Chrome extension? Nominal values are quite important, as you may have one service around the corner, and another one on other continent. That's not the case here, sure. But still adds to transparency of the piece.
Thanks for the awesome video! I was curious if you used the stadia controller connected through WiFi, because I haven't tested it but I can feel that there is way less latency vs a controller plugged into my PC. Kinda makes sense since it's a stream but plugged in controllers and m&k has a lot of input delay.
Great in-depth review. Properly done!
I've played Cyberpunk and Destiny 2 on Stadia with chromecast ultra and wired internet, both 1080p and 4k version from Pro. I had zero issues with responsiveness, however, in darker scenes, image noise would be visible and overall it didn't seem as sharp as on PC or console.
I think the streaming platforms are good substitutes until you can find a GPU or new gen consoles.
The 3080 tier is very close to the real thing and is in a entirely different league compared to stadia.
Interesting subject with comprehensive and clear exposition, all in all a great video!!
Though I would've found it interesting to also see some "data regarding the quality of Your connection". Since that (as You pointed out) that is a factor that potentially can (heavily) influence (hamper) the performance of a service like this.
Best regards
I waiting for this, thanks!
Great stuff as always, Tom!
Awesome review! What is the technical reason why input latency is so bad on console? I have never heard it explained (especially when modern TVs have low latency gaming modes and the HW of consoles are so close to PC). Could you do a deep dive into this since it would be great to understand when/why crossplay is not a good idea regardless of peripherals used)
Great video! Well done.
game availability is a problem with these services. stadia especially
Google don't want to spend the money they are so cheap
true, although they do have some exclusive game like Judgement is only on Stadia on PC.
Would be cool to also get a comparison of the different Geforce Now tiers.
Okay, maybe an obvious thing, but it would have been better if the local machine was running a similar Ryzen CPU to exclude it's influence.
A truly fascinating piece and some fantastic work.
I tried Xcloud about a month ago on a One X (which I don't use anymore, PC here) to play some Fallout 76 with my brother. It was pretty great. I figured it would be a better alternative than dealing with loading on a spinning HDD. FO76 isn't a twitch reaction sort of game, so latency issues were forgiving anyhow, but honestly felt great on the controller. I quickly forgot I was playing through a stream. Edit: I'm also on gigabit internet in a metro area so YMMV.
What do you mean on a one x? Isn’t cloud play for other platforms like a phone, tablet or computer?
@@AgoraphobicLocust you can play cloud on xbawks consoles
@@AgoraphobicLocust I’ve played it on an iPhone, android tablet, Xbox one, pc, Xbox series s… it’s everywhere with GamePass.
also a suggestion, it might be good to add a small symbol related to the platform or a small picture of one above each of the names in the table graphics, makes it a little easier to quickly read over without having to read each of the titles; just a thought
Treasure these moments, two df uploads all in the span of a couple hrs it's beautiful
GeForce Now is amazing. Have been using it a while with great performance and no issues. For people who play the games on it, it's a chance to not have to worry about having the newest hardware. Windows gaming is VERY expensive with having to constantly replace hardware and getting a new system to stay up with the newest games. I definitely recommend. Even the GTX 3080 option is way cheaper than Windows gaming.
Just hope they have a month subscription plan. This help in making decision whether to upgrade current graphic card and try out game to see whether it meet expectations. Sometimes gaming review is one thing and playing it personally is totally different experience.
Geforce now has a free tier. I think Stadia offers a sample of Pro, which includes games you can try. You absolutely need to try these services before committing because the experience is very network dependent.
Best regards from France. Continue the good job
200 bucks a year seems like a lot, but it would take 4 years of the 3080 tier to cost as much as 3080s did at launch near MSRP. Many people pay more (thanks to scalping) for less.
But at the same time owning the hardware is better than renting it out and it being affected on your internet speeds
Having it local in your PC is by FAR superior than renting a server and streaming the video to a device, regardless of the MSRP.
@@Playerz714 Much, much, much better, I just meant that for some people, it could be the IDEAL option. It isn't for me, many of the games I play are emulated or cracked, so it's not as useful as someone whose steam library contains everything they'd play and have blazing-fast internet.
Let's not forget if it's bought you can also resell it to pay for a large portion of your eventual GPU upgrade. This has always been important to me as a PC gamer.
@@zaidlacksalastname4905 meh, im happy saving money and getting what seems to be slightly less in benchmarks. I just let Nvidia upgrade to the 4090 tier in like a year and only dropped the $200 for the 3080. I also wont have to ever upgrade other compenents as well. if you average up the costs over a decade you save thousands for 10%-15% difference that you likely wont notice when playing
dam great detailed analysis, well done
I'm surprised that you didn't mention bandwidth requirements and what happens when the connection falls short.
Fabulous review. Streaming starting to be a viable option now.
It’s all about internet and how far away you are from a data center. GeForce now feels a bit sluggish for me, while stadia feels like I’m playing local because there is a data center an hour away from me.
What kind of TV/monitor are you using with the Xbox latency tests? Is it the same as was used with the PC?
You should talk about pricing more though, purely from a value perspective. Example, GeForce Now allows you to play some (very few) games unless you own then with the base subscription.
XCloud with Game Pass? IMO it’s the best value in gaming right now. You can play any game on the list for the base price, so you don’t have to “already own” the games.
With some tweaking and improvements, cloud gaming looks like a good contender in the future. Some of the mining farms in China could start building their own cloud gaming servers and services with all the hardware they have laying around.
@Adrian Claudiu Covaci You own a LICENSE to play the game that needs to be validated by Valves servers and can be revoked by any given time... I partially agree if you have other machine that is capable of running the game, but then every pc & console has option for remote play nowadays, so streaming only services is probably not targeting you as an audience. Huge cost of game pass/ps now goes into licensing and they are still significantly cheaper. The point is you are not saving money by buying the game, so you might as well buy it afterwards when you have your own hardware or even use the lower tier of game pass/ps now for the library alone.
@@plamen5358 lol its steam which will always be there and will work on multiple devices and ecosystems while stadia which is not profitable can have the rug pulled at anytime and the games are solely locked to stadia.
@@plamen5358 That is such a weak argument. You're acting like Valve is just going to shut down their servers tomorrow. Steam has been a global leader is digital games for nearly 2 decades now, a quarter of most peoples' lives. They aren't going anywhere any time soon and buying games through them is nearly as guaranteed as buying a physical copy.
That said, even with that "risk" you present, I'd rather buy it on Steam and use GeForce Now. Xbox Game Pass FREQUENTLY removes games from it's subscription, and once they do you can't do anything about it. It's gone. Keep on paying, you can't play that game you loved. Unless you go buy it. So I paid for months of subscription just to buy the game anyways? How is that better or saving me money?
And another note, as far as "can be revoked any given time"..... Stadia? It's been a total flop and you can only use it by paying a subscription for games you don't own, or buying a game on THEIR service and be locked into it when it likely won't even be around 5 years from now. Steam is booming. Stadia is dying. You make your pick.
@@brandonjohnson4121 I don't get how you are discussing which is worse. Neither Steam nor Xbox allow you to "own" a game, they just grant you access to a license.
They are equally bad in that regard
EDIT: Microsoft is the third company on gaming revenue nowadays, they are not going anywhere. Also, games on GamePass are cheaper when you are subscribed and they warn you the game will leave the service. You literally have no points.
@@MrRogordo That's literally my point. They said Xbox Pass is better, with their logic being you don't own games on Steam. I pointed out you don't own games on either, but at least Steam doesn't remove your games every month. Literally just a few days ago like 6 major games were removed from Xbox Game Pass. I've had 0 removed from my steam library in nearly 20 years.
Your edit is also idiotic. Microsoft has literally purchased both Bethesda and set in motion a deal for Activision Blizzard in the last year, two huge companies. They are also FAR more valuable than either Nintendo or Sony. They could buy either of them if it wouldn't create a monopoly. You don't have to like their console or games, but they are in the lead by a huge margin both financially and in popularity.
@DigitalFoundry Great video! Question. In your findings did you get NATIVE 4K/60 gameplay when using the Nvidia Shield Pro? Heard it was upscaled 4K and wasn't sure if, upscaled 4K classified as native 4K. Thanks!
Nvidia Shield gets native 4k with the 3080 tier.
Tried GeForce Now in different SKUS, since it was in beta, let you access all your Steam library and provided 120 actual FPS. And it was already rocking. It made me a streaming believer
If you've got a shield, fibre direct to the home (not fibre to the cabinet then copper to the home, that's very different!), Then the geforce now 3080 tier is an outstanding deal. I get a ping of 4ms on the 3080 tier and it's an amazing experience
FttH vs. FttN (FttN or Fibre to the Node is fibre to the crossbox and conditioned copper to the Marker that feeds the home. FttH or Fibre to the Home is fibre to the Crossbox, Marker and then NID feeding the home with straight fibre )
You plug a fibre optic cable into your PC?
edit: into your shield
@@joescad no you plug an Ethernet cable into your shield but whatever device you use to connect to the internet will be connected via fiber. In all honesty though I have fiber to the node, copper to my house, and the latency is still really good, I haven't seen any noticeable gameplay differences with GeForce now.
No amount of quality of cable will matter for most users if there is no server nearby. If you're in Asia , lowest ping you can see is around 100-120.
Wow. We are in the realm were streaming VR is within reach (as long as we keep ASW running locally on the headset of course).
i think with your comparison of latency of GFN you should include your average network latency/jitter because it will be vastly different per person, include a delta of network latency to game response so other people can apply that to their own setup, your GFN @ 60 with reflect being 81.7ms wont be the same as me running GFN @ 60 with reflex as an example, if you had something like '@15ms network latency' included then we could estimate what real world response times would be for us.
What is the ping between your test machine and geforce now server?
I do hope they improve xcloud input latency a fair bit in time for cloud only editions on Series S. Because that was the * they put behind when talking about it being able to play all future Xbox exclusives if I recall correctly? And even then I think it might've been for games released on Series X, not ones released later, though I imagine they probably will keep that support for a while longer if the latency improves.
I played through assassins creed origins and bioshock infinite on GeForce now on a chrome book at school over the course of a semester. It was an okay experience.
I think this is the first time I've heard macs mentioned on digital foundry. There are dozens of us!
Stadia definitely holding its own in the latency test (11:30). Probably less latency using CCU / GoogleTV as well with Stadia controller. Honestly I'm just happy to see you guys looking at Stadia again :D
Too bad it looks like poop on Stadia.
@@icy1007 consider that you don’t have to pay a monthly fee to use stadia though, then it becomes a cost benefit question
@@icy1007 No it doesn't

Great work, but you should compare gamestream from desktop 3080 to nvidia shield and Geforce now 3080. Would love to see that as I gamestream all the time from my 3080 pc to the nvidia shield
While streaming isn’t for everyone, it has been awesome seeing how much better the GeForce now service has become since it’s inception, especially regarding the latency. On a hard wire fast connection, the primary thing that differentiates it from playing locally are the artifacts. I’d this is cleaned up, I wager many would forget they are playing over stream once immersed in a game. Also, the library has to expand, but hopefully this happens over time
So glad you checked it out and went into detail! Been testing it the last few days and it's surpringly good. Would be curious how lag was tested, all with a usb conntected Xbox Controller?
The only bad thing so far is that I have a lot of micro stutters/camera stutters. I noticed them in the video as well but that might just be the stream.
Oh and the type of connection and ping result for GFN would be interesting too!
USB vs wired controller is a minuscule difference, like less than 5ms, probably more like 1-2ms
Tom, you outdid yourself, good for you and thank you for the great vid👍
I'm using the Priority tier on an Ipad. Had the bright idea of getting a USC-C to HDMI connector so I can get the image onto my G7 monitor. Hoping for good things.
What was your ping test result on the gfn app?
I recently ordered gigabit internet so I could play some of the Xbox exclusives which aren't on PC. I have the hardware so I don't need GFN, but I think its great that it is starting to approach a point of being genuinely useful for a lot of people. I'd love to see a really in depth analysis of the quality of different services.
I noticed that a high speed internet connection is nice to have, but a connection with no package loss is the real key to smooth cloud gaming :)
@@Jasphur i have 1 gbit internet but input lag is still unplayable on any streaming service
YEP. I actually use it when I'm at the hospital with my son, controller and phone
Game streaming on xCloud is 'okay' right now. But it does not yet match a 'local' PC or console experience.
The image does not look as good (the compression artefacts) and there is certainly more input latency. But in certain types of games, it's not that noticeable though.
I have a dedicated 2Gbps fibre connection, with a very low ping.
I test games out on xCloud, they are certainly 'playable'. But if I want to play them regularly, I always download them to PC or Xbox SS.
@@qalamiti6____________748 Location matters a good amount too, like someone in London or L.A. with gigabit would have less latency than someone in rural Central US or Canada with gigabit, because the big cities simply will have the data centers physically closer.
I do have a question of whether this is controller support over bluetooth or if you are directly plugged in to a usb for either pc, xbox native or cloud?
What about data transfer and additional energy consumption?
I have no idea what streaming 4k 60fps means in Gigabyte or Watts.
Very useful and informative vid. Does Geforce Now Pc resolution cap to 1440p include 3440x1440p?Thanks
Yo, GG +R?! Let's go, DF!!
Did you guys test wifi vs wired internet?
If the experience is good enough, the 200 a year price could be substantially offset by the savings on your electricity bill.
I'd much rather have a local setup. This would not reduce my electricity bill by any substantial amount. $200 is like 5 months worth of power for me.
It's still not price competitive with a console though. You can sell your Xbox Series X after a year for the same price you bought it in this chip shortage. So all you lose after a year is 120$ for Game Pass and additional games. An Xbox Series X with game pass is the best deal in gaming ever.
@@Dionyzos But if it sells at the same price, it is better to buy a new console, and not used with surely scratches and dust inside it, in this case, why buy a used one at the same price as a new one?
Will be interesting to see if Liquid Sky ever emerges from the acquisition by Walmart of all entities...It was really nice to use, just a gaming PC in the cloud. Install any or every gaming launcher you want. Do whatever.
Been using Geforce now (Control, dragon age Inquisition) and Xcloud (Jedi Fallen Order, Nier Automata) from Tokyo and love
them. Geforce Now does have better image quality, but Xcloud has a huge games library.
For me, it is all about latency. That is the main test, more than graphical fidelity as they both look fine. Game streaming has enabled me to play games that I otherwise would not have. Brilliant.
I'd be interested in seeing how xcloud compares to the lower tiers of GeForce Now. I suspect it falls somewhere between the two, with visual quality of the premium version but latency and video compression closer to the free version - any thoughts?
How is the latency when playing Stadia on a Chromecast Ultra with the Stadia controller?
That's what they don't want to show you
It would be good / appreciated to do a global availability comparison too? Certain countries can access X and not Y.
Having used the 3080 gfn service for a few weeks I've gotta say that the lack of proper hdr support via the shield tv as promised has been disappointing (I was hoping to drive my oled with an 4k Series X like no nonsense experience) also being unable to display an fps counter on all games via the shield also makes tuning the settings very difficult.
100% with you. I have the 3080 tier GFN subscription. I hate the fact I have to decide how I'm going to play (had to buy a Sheild just to take advantage of the extra subscription features). Do I play 120fps at 1440p w/no HDR on PC? Or 60fps at 4K w/HDR on sheild? My thought is the HDR feature and 4K option may pop up on the PC version of GFN down the way (if Nvidia decides to), because it's not like those features aren't already "possible" for the PC GFN...it's just currently a "locked" up feature to be released on a rainy day.
Great video comparison. Probably won’t take off until it’s available worldwide. None of these services are available in South Africa (and probably never will).
Unless I missed it, it would be nice to know what ping you're getting to the server for each platform, as this will vary greatly per user and also have an impact.

One thing that is nice about the cloud is your not just paying for xcloud. U also are getting the game pass on Xbox and pc and the xcloud as an added extra so as far as bang for your buck it’s pretty good. Plus I still have a lower end gpu on my pc and I could play the new halo without a ton of studder but when I played the cloud version it ran great
That might easily change when xcloud comes out of beta or offers an acceptable quality on larger screens. Thus far it is a service for phones.
@@thestepback it’s a service for my pc and Xbox as well. And it’s basically a free service since I was already paying for the game pass and they added it to it. At launch the most I see happening is they have a separate offer for just the cloud portion at a lower price than the full game pass
I heard that Google stadia has lower latency with stadia controller and Chromecast since the controller connects to the stadia server directly. Also, I wonder will xcloud has lower latency using xbox app on PC.
It doesnt, DF did some testing on this in the past, just search for the videos
Yes, its been know to offer the best performance. And prior testing, or attempt thereof from DF, was terrible. It was SO odd they couldn't get internet at home and just weird overall scenarios around the test setup. Sounds like tech finally came their way, ha... (only read the article, haven't seen this vid yet)
How does this work? Is it a GPU/CPU virtualization thing or does each session get its own dedicated physical resources? If its the latter, how do they ensure that there's always one free to use, and is this partly responsible for the 3830 GPU shortage? So many questions! :)
Why is the latency on the Series X so high? I immediately noticed it in Outriders when I switched from PC to XBSX after they broke the PC version (it kept crashing on the start screen). It is playable, but the PC version was so much more snappy.
I would love to see latency comparisons between PC and consoles in many more games, including PvP. This is never mentioned in the face-off videos.
The Stadia controller lowers the input lag though. Its connected via Wifi rather then cable.
Great comparison but you missed one point on GeForce Now, the games are purchased separately on other market places which is good but also an additional cost.
Great comparison Tom thanks for the hard work.
Personally I still don't like these services, from lag, network hiccups, video compression artifacts and the fact that for some like gfn not all the games are available, even if you own them, it's not a great solution for me, idk maybe I'm old and I prefer to have everything be local but while I do see the appeal and practicality, but to me it's still a subpar experience idk

Would be even more impressive if we could run other platform games steam/epic/whatever we have already installed
Does the GFN macOS app perform as well as the pc app??
Impressive. I havnt owned a gaming pc for over 10 years and probably never will, I have just decided to stick to console gaming. My only private computer is a mac that I can hook up to my work docking station with monitor, keyboard and mouse etc. This sounds like a great way for me to play pc games. For the price of a pc and high end graphics card that I would have to upgrade regularly I can pay for these services for a very long time. I can also just pause the service when I want. I assume the hardware in the cloud will be upgraded over time as well. So it will be fantastic value for money.
Great video, GF definitely has the advantage, though I've heard stadia has the tech ready like GF but hasn't for some reason put the tech out there yet. It's a mistake that got GF in the lead. Sticking to Stadia as price is at a good spot.
In what universe does Stadia have good prices? Nothing but baboons in this world today.
@@wolfura baboons? Stick to the argument and away from logical fallacies via personal attacks. So yeah, as a user, you'd see sales happen all the time.
@@wolfura There is nothing wrong about people using Stadia bro
What's wild. In Germany electricity prices are so high right now that, even if you have the hardware,
using Geforce Now would amortise itself if you play more than 4 hours a day per month.
Only due to the difference between idle and load
Can you tell what was the ping at the network using GFN Network test?
As of now, I don't have an Nvidia card. I have used xCLOUD, STADIA & PS NOW and I like xCloud the most. Primarily because most games on gamepass are available through the cloud. However, my biggest problem is that some of the games on the cloud are the console version so when you return to playing a game natively on PC, your save files for those games are different.
Expect lagging and stuttering depending on where you are geographically. If you have shared broadband which is what the majority of us have, you will have more problems. If you have dedicated, you pay more, and it's better. I like my hardware, but this is a great alternative.
6:46 a 109000k!? That must be fast!
It still bother me that companies are opting out of Geforce Now, there are so many games I can't play because of that. It's not like I'm not buying the game because I'm playing it on Geforce Now
We've given up our ownership of software and we only have "licenses". It never should have been allowed to happen. But anyway, the cloud streaming thing has never been tested in court and I wonder if a legal challenge to publishers restricting where people place their licensed games could be successful. NVIDIA isn't going to test it because they don't want to destroy their relationship with the games publishers. A consumer group or consumers would have to sue themselves.
Yeah, it's a shame. Honestly $99.99 for 6 months isn't a bad deal. Assuming it gets updated with the latest and greatest NVIDIA GPU every year or two, it's an even better deal for a lot of people than buying a physical GPU. I was really impressed with the latency, as GeForce Now was the only streaming service like this that felt native (even with keyboard/mouse games) to me. The initial backlash to the service still plagues it, unfortunately, and it's hard to get behind renting a high-end PC that's incompatible with a lot of your games because those games' developers don't understand that the service is simply allowing you to play your games on another device.
Are wireless controls a factor here? Wondering if the controller is wired in all of these tests, or if wireless controls could be muddying the waters (specifically on console)
sure it does. I wonder the xbox setup too, that latency is insane
I have it and I confirm that it is great if you have decent broadband and use a cabled connection.
I’m honestly so surprised at how well these cloud services are doing . I truly thought these services would die out but it seems like they’ve made the improvements needed to actually make them useable for people that either have a shit computer or don’t have 1 at all. I’m impressed
onlive is killing themselves for pushing to market way too soon.
This is why these videos are so important, many people have no idea how good cloud gaming has become :) The coverage in the media is very limited unfortunately.
or people that dont wanna drop 2 grand on a gaming PC... I dont see a reason to spend that kind of money anymore when cloud gaming works well enough to deliver a good overall experience
I’ll always choose the games I wanted to play instead of playing the games which only available from the service
this test is not repeatable
this all depends on which server and which machine you are connected to and distance matters...
these tests are done in the UK and US server might be a different story
Exactly what I was thinking.
I have a gaming laptops with a 1600p screen. Before buying the Geforce Now RTX3080 I want to know if 1600p is supported on PC's too. I have searched for hours and could not find any sort of confirmation that this resolution is selectable on PC's too next to Macs.
01:31 As far as I understand you can use M/KB, even on Shield-TVs. If not it wouldn't be viable, since a lot of the games are shooters, and playing them with a controller is a no-no.
I'm curious why xCloud is being tested on a console rather than a browser. I used it to play Gears 2, 3, and Judgment recently on my PC and the latency was barely noticeable. Granted, caveat there as well because while I didn't notice an increase in latency while I was playing through Chrome, I could very much feel an increased latency when using Edge.
Honestly the real story here is that the consoles seem to have tons of latency. What the hell are they doing that PC outperforms to such a degree that a remote PC instance that needs to be encoded, travel across the network, and decoded can beat it in latency? nearly double PC latency in destiny, more than double PC latency in outriders. Microsoft and Sony need to figure this shit out, Xclould also looking rough by taking xbox's already apparently poor latency and then piling on top the latency you would expect from remote instance streaming.
That's also next gen systems like PS5 and Xbox Series X it's even worse for people still gaming on last gen systems like PS4 and Xbox One.
And how fast your internet speed got to be?
a 100mb? 300mb? or a 1gb internet?
