Hi! This was incredibly helpful. Are you planning on doing a new one with the current models? All the ones listed are sold out now (since this was 11 months ago).
I have arthritis in my big toe. I struggled to find shoes to wear and without being in pain afterwards…even with orthotics. The pain was unbearable. I bought the carbon x3 based on this video. I’ve been pain free and wear it morning to night. The redness and swelling have disappeared because I’m no longer pushing off with my toe in these shoes. I am so thankful for coming across your video!!
Thanks for taking the time to write your comment. Feedback like this is lovely to hear and I'm really pleased to hear you've experienced such benefits from the Carbon X3.
And if you want a more aesthetic shoe, Gabor rollingsoft shoes are ideal for hallux rigidus. I've suffered from it for years, and now I can only walk thanks to them!
Thank you for this great concise video describing these 3 shoes. I was not sure about spending the kind of money to get Hoka Bondi, but the difference it has made is so much better for my great toe arthritis. I am going to try the Hoka carbon 3 as I was not sure it was good from my hallux valgus. Thank you again for such good information!
Best content I've come across so far in my search for a solution. Is there anykind of "insert" that could be used to stiffen other shoes? For example walking trainers (approach shoes), rock shoes and finally wet boots! Hope you like a challenge. Merry Xmas
Hi David, Thanks very much for your kind comments. Most of the type of shoes you mentioned have a stiff sole so that in itself is helpful. Otherwise one could think about a carbon fibre insole to increase rigidity in a shoe.
Be careful with carbon fiber inserts. Ones I ordered were so thin and sharp on the edges, they cut through the stitching around the inside of my expensive running shoes! Pissed me off big time. Be careful about them and what shoes you put them in.
I aprechiate your video. I look forward to watching more. The issue I have is with the Bondi 8. Where the tongue of the shoe is sewn in , it creates a hard bump that presses on the top of the big toe joint. This is causing gout flareups and extreme pain and swelling.
Hallux Rigidus patient here. Both the Bondi and the Glideride have a super cushioned forefoot, which makes the ball of my foot sort of sink in and causes my big toe to extend and hurt. Does this make sense / mirror what some patients say? I get much better results with the Bondi X which is firmer and even stiffer against bending, but it's so narrow that I had to give up. No wide version in my country =(. Best one I've found so far was the Saucony Endorphin Shift 3.
Thanks for this vid. I’ve got an arthritic big toe on my left foot. None of the physios have really taken it seriously so I always end up with calf/shin pain after about 2 to 3 weeks of running. Will these running shoes mitigate that because it’s a lot of money to fork out. I’ve tried a lot of alternatives such as orthotics, strengthening and both neutral and support trainers yet still get injury. Any advice would be most appreciated 😊

My question to you is do you suggest any trail/trail running shoes that have more rigid bottoms for hiking? Thank you!
Hi James. Thanks for posting. Was very excited to have my Hoka Bondi 8 delivered. Size 10.5 regular. Tightest fitting shoe ever! Just ordered them in Wide to give it another chance. Have never needed a wide shoe, and I'm 60. Thinking this is why the Bondi 8 is currently on sale. Clearly a sizing issue here. What is your take?
