New Balance 860 v14 vs v13 | The BEST STABILITY SHOE on the Market
Hi, I’m James, a foot and ankle specialist, and today I’ll break down the key differences between the New Balance 860 v14 and the v13. The v14 has upgraded cushioning, stability features, and a more comfortable fit. It features 38mm of rearfoot cushioning and 30mm in the forefoot, with a reduced 8mm drop (compared to 10mm in the v13).
The added Fresh Foam X cushioning offers a softer feel, while the medial wedge provides superior support for conditions like Plantar Fasciitis and Posterior Tibial Tendinitis.
The v14 also improves on stability with sidewalls, a broad base, sole flare, and a plush, gusseted upper. It's perfect for walking, standing all day, and recovery runs, though not ideal...

Best Lightweight Running Shoe: On Cloudsurfer 7 Review
The clifton9 vs nimbus 26, which one is good for beginer, pace 8-9?
Hey @james.. doeas arahi 7 serve same purpose
Yes it has the exact same midsole with a different upper
I purchased the Bondi 8 for walking because they're supposed to have max cushioning but they are not as cushioned as the NB 1080x v13.
The NB 1080v13 has a softer cushioning
What are your thoughts of using these 2 shoes for occasional hiking?
Maybe for mild terrain but they’re mostly for road
Would this be good for walking for senior citizens? Thank you
The softness can make it unstable
Is there a compressed walking shoe for warehouse workers?
Compressed?
Hi, I am sorry but I am a little confused. As someone who had wide feet, are you saying that a regular Gaviota 5 has a more wider design size?
The Gaviota 5 is so wide that the normal version of it is wider than the wide version of the the Gaviota 4
Which one would you recommend for interval workouts at the track ? Thank you for the informative video :))
Very insightful video, do u have a vid on gts23v24, was just wondering if its worth it to get the 23
Thanks for watching and yes we do👍
This makes so much sense! Super cool!
Thanks for watching 🙏
So interesting. I subscribe. I wondered if you do a comparison for older women fearful of falling in city conditions of 1) iciness, black ice and 2) slushy slippy melti g snow/ice (very common in Scotland all winter as it is often not cold enough to stay firm). I appreciate thus may be about “soles” as well as stability. As you can imagine, a fall can be a life-changing awful event. 🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you. I will share your “stability” video
I have a morton neuroma, which one would you recomend ?
The Gaviota 5 has the widest toebox
Can you please recommend mid boots for hiking best for accessory navicular? Thanks.
Good review. Interesting you mention metatarsalgia with heel drop. I had to sell on the Ascis Superblasts V1 which I found didn't counteract with softness.
I don't like this shoes ,I am 70 years old and its too heavy for me.I fell alot wearing this Shoe.Any suggestion if a light Hoka shoes.
Hi, we have a video on the best shoes for seniors.
Surfers super comfortable but the big flaw is they’ll start squeaking after a couple of months regular use…
Thanks for sharing
i loved the hoka conquest but they don’t make them anymore. other hokas i’ve purchased are too soft and hurt my hips after wearing. i like the height but i don’t like the spongy feel if too much bounce. can you suggest another shoe for good but firmer height? i hv the clifton 9 it’s pretty good but lacks the height of the conquest. thoughts? i need stability for my balance issues
Maybe the brooks ghost max 2
Hi, lovely video and so helpful! Could you suggest the best Hoka or Asics for severe ACL injury prone knees? I want sonething with sone stability for walking and every day activity . Much thanks!
Hi, I'm not sure there is a shoe that is best for this as there are so many variables involved.

Thank you so much for this video, very helpful! Is Kayano 30 is better for PF than kayano 31? Which one you would recommend more?
The 31 offers more arch support.
Good info, thank you!
Thanks for watching 🙏
Is there a shoe you would recommend for warehouse work? I walk about 13k steps and day, I lift heavy items and need to be stable while doing it as sometimes I'm on a kinda wobbly platform 35 feet in the air. And it has to be a good sole that isn't slippery because its on polished concrete floors. I keep getting mixed suggestions that I feel like are affected by whats trendy and you seem to have a solid understanding of feet and shoes and seem like you would make a solid recommendation that isn't effected by trends. I do think I have slight bunions and my arches hurt bad if I'm in too flat of a shoe while working.
Maybe the Brooks Ghost 16 or the Adrenaline GTS 24 if you want something more supportive
Can help me with all days stand shoe that help for metatarsalgia thank you
We have a video on shoes for metatarsalgia
Hi James. Thanks for posting. Was very excited to have my Hoka Bondi 8 delivered. Size 10.5 regular. Tightest fitting shoe ever! Just ordered them in Wide to give it another chance. Have never needed a wide shoe, and I'm 60. Thinking this is why the Bondi 8 is currently on sale. Clearly a sizing issue here. What is your take?
Hi - yes they are known for their tight fit so a wide can be a good option. The new model comes out in January so that’s why it’s on sale otherwise it’s one of their best sellers
model 23 is very durable, it was a bit slippy inside (some chemicals) until i rubbed the material up a bit after 5 times running. also the laces often lost hold during my entire usage. in winter the sole got destroyed a bit by stones. but the main part is the durability of the damping of the shoe which never got worse evene if runnign everday. its a bit bouncy and medium dampened. it feels very well you can run fast daily. the foam is really great.
Thanks for sharing
@@james_mccormack i have the 24 already at home. its standing in my shelve... did not use it by now. i did not know its that different from 23.
@@james_mccormack the adrenalin was my second shoe of brooks. after running brooks addicted 11,12 only and always since 2011!
Ive been running in ascis 24 for 3 years (was lucky to have 2 pairs in the same model) im struggling to transition to the 26. Feels like me feet are working harfer and my runs are requiring more from me. How much time do i give it before i conclude that its not working?
It has a softer sole so it is likely that your stabiser muscles are working harder / you may prefer something like the brooks ghost 16
You'll never know how much I appreciate your recommendations! Navicular bone in my foot was fractured 2 years ago and being from a small town hasn't helped!!! Trying to avoid surgery and bone fusion. Would you still recommend Asics gel-kayano 31 for that condition? I tried so many different brands until I watched one of your videos. The Kayano 30s have really helped my pain when walking! I've ordered and returned many different brands of shoes! Normally don't make any comments on the internet, but you are the exception! Thank you so much for your help!!!
Thanks for your comment - it’s always nice to hear when people benefit from the videos. They 31 has a more prominent medial arch support than the 30 so if your foot is sensitive in that area then it may not enjoy it. An alternative could be the new balance 860 v14
I have both inmy rotation. I happen to think the arahi is the better shoe for overpronation. It is very comfortable but not as comfortable as the gaviota. Bit the Gaviota's stack hieght is higher and in my experience this height differentce gives me the feeling it is not as stable. Nonetheles, it is a great shoe.I alternate these shoes on a daily basis.
Thanks for sharing and watching 🙏
Unfortunately, none of these look acceptable in the office. Got anything for us there?
Try the On Cloudrunner 2
Agreed - the on cloud range prioritise comfort and have some more lifestyle shoes like the cloudrunner 2 or on cloud 5
cool channel, enjoyed the review. question. i’m a community pharmacist who stands 12 hrs a day, pretty much in the same spot. i do some movement, but mostly just standing, adjusting myself etc, in a little 4ft by 4ft “station.” what shoe would you recommend for me? i discovered brooks ghost a couple years ago and it was a game changer. had basically just been doing middle of the road nikes or new balance before. i’m 38, btw. 6 ft 1, about 180.
Thanks for the message and for watching - why not stick with the ghosts?
Thank you so much for this! I just known plantar f. just a couple of days. I always wonder about a strange stretch feeling in my mid foot whenever i walk it sucks because it feels like my skin or tissues inside my mid foot is ripping cant walk properly for some hours. Been eyeing that On cloudrunner 2 for weeks now, thank you for review cant wait to buy me one now ❤
Thanks for sharing and for watching 🙏
I need a great shoe for standing all day at work and everyday use I have a bad right knee which effects my ankle so I am trying to decide what to purchase I have been wearing columbia trail shoes thanks for your advice
We have a video on shoes for standing all day that you might find helpful
Main use 5 kilomitar running. Daily training use .. nimbus 26 or novablast 4 which best
They would both work so it comes down to your preferences
what about pain to the inner foot up to the side of the ankle that has lasted for over 2 months? Is that simply a strain or could it be something else?
Thanks James again for so much helpful info in the video! I watched all your PF videos and I have one question if you can help please- what shoes would you recommend to someone like me who feels little bit of both time to time, compression and stretch PF.?
Every case is different so an assessment is always recommended. Something with arch support and cushioning like the kayano 31 may be worth consideration
@@james_mccormack thank you!
How does the walking New Balance MW880 compare to these?
I haven’t tested them in afraid
@james_mccormack thanks for the feedback. Appreciate the reviews you make esp affordable and comfortable options for daily use.
Is it comfortable for running?
It's a subjective answer but for me it was comfortable.

thank you, exactly how my podiatrist did it and it helped, nnow I can do myself👍👍
Thanks for watching 🙏
How about they jusy make a shoe that will not act on itself but will dl what my foot wants. 99% of shoes i try are just straight up not invisioned for you to walk properly. Like they dont follow your foot at all. If you walk properly, aka use your fingers at the end lf the step. Most shoes will get in the way by folding and digning into your feet from above(the crease).
I have flat feet, excruciating back pains daily. However, I want to start walking daily and need something that won't add more pain to my feet and back. Which is best....Asics or otherwise?
Sorry I can’t provide recommendations without an assessment
@james_mccormack ok thanks, but in essence, I'm really just asking for a walking shoes recommendation for flat feet. I'll decide btwn the asics and brooks adrenaline. 👍🏾
Thanks for your review! The Kayano become too soft for me, that firmer cushioning of the Brooks is better for stability I believe😊
I’m inclined to feel the same but everyone responds differently- thanks for watching!
Thank you!
Thanks for watching 🙏
8 year old sports injury. Complete tear ATFL and Deep deltoid and partial tear. Pain on outside after side of ankle.
Thank you so much as always! Very helpful info! Just curious- which ON shoes would you recommend to someone who has no feet issues but wants good cushion and high stability for all day walking?
Thank for watching - check out the video on best on cloud shoes for walking
I run in Saucony Tempus and absolutely love them. Would the Asics GT2000 12 be closest to them in terms of stability elements with gtx?
Yes, in that they are both primarily stability shoes.
Your videos are very helpful and useful. Thank you for making these!
Thanks for watching 🙏
I enjoy hokas because I don’t really feel what I’m walking on like holes or cracks uneven surfaces etc. I feel stable and not like I’m on a cliff I don’t have to change up my walking patterns a whole lot when wearing hokas like I do with narrow Nikes lol I also notice I can’t kill hoka shoes like can easily with Nike shoes
Thanks for sharing
Is On cloudtilt good ?
Yes, a good option.
I am wondering if the Ghost 16 is ok with Hallux Rigidus? I have the Ghost Max but wanted to get another pair and love a color on Ghost 16's
The high drop may not be ideal
