  • For a millennium and a half, India was a confident exporter of its diverse civilisation, creating around it a vast empire of ideas. Indian art, religions, technology, astronomy, music, dance, literature, mathematics and mythology blazed a trail across the world, along a Golden Road that stretched from the Red Sea to the Pacific. Listen as Anita and William discuss his new book and the rise of the Indosphere.

Fascinating. Feel disappointed with WD though about his casual dismissal of recent Hindu Revival which is nothing but the manifestation of same Ancient India in 21st century. His visceral hatred for Modi is inexplicable as he is doing the same job of resurrecting Hindu civilization which Modi and his movement is doing. Won't be surprised if WD gets awarded a richly deserved Padmashri

Java from javadwipa is so unlikely.

      Why ?

Lmao.....Dwipa just means "islands", essentially: Islands of Java.
You don't know the basics xD

It is an undisputed fact, known in India thousands of years ago. Javadwipa means Island of Java.

@@Anonymous-ym8gr so Java is from Javadwipa n then Javadwipa is from Java. That is so circularly dumb, hence unlikely.
More likely, Java is from jawawut, a type of millet common allthruout maritime SEA but in abundant in Java. Indigenous javanese probably use this to try to describe their homes when they travel to India.

@@wenderis just because you feel so does not make it unlikely. India’s ancient name was Bharatvarsh. Today we simply call it Bharat. The full name of ancient Persia was Iranshahr. Today we simply call it Iran. Similar is the case of Javadwipa & Java.

Loved this background to a book to which I am eagerly looking forward. As a student of Hindu and Buddhist spiritual teachings I am disappointed with the nationalist and islamaphobic rabble rousing by modi. A rabble that knows little about Hinduism and nothing about its philosophical depth and breadth. Knowing india's ability to shake off such virus of insular ideologies i hope it recovers from this illness and leads the human race back on to the right path to evolution and emancipation.

You need to understand Abrahmic faiths first.
In the words of Gore Vidal, “I regard monotheism as the greatest disaster ever to befall the human race.”
