  • Swallow tails are loose & skatey...great for small waves. Surfboard shaper Todd Proctor answers surfer questions about how different tail shapes affect how a surfboard rides. Tail shapes make up only about 10% of the total experience of how a board feels under your feet while surfing, but there are distinct differences between what varying tail shapes excel at and are targeted for in terms of wave type and target conditions, surfer style, and desired performance characteristics.
Todd Proctor has specialized for 30 years in custom surfboards built to enhance the surfing experience of each surfer's unique surfing journey. We build to order, build to match the goals, body mechanics and experience level of each surfer, and build to last.

In my opinion swallow tails are great for big waves and especially the doing the bottom turn, seems like they hold more. I disagree that a swallow tail is loose, to me it seems like it holds the line better and produces a lil more spray than other tails
