My Dad fought in Korea with The kings Regiment, he fought at the battle of The Hook, he was a regular soldier and later went on to serve in Malaya. He passed away last year but as children we was taught of Korea and as a young man i attended Korean Veterans Reunions with him, i went onto join my Dads Regiment and i am very proud of him for his service.

My Old Man served with the Royal Engineers, during the last six months of the war. At one point, he had a fighting position on the reverse slope of "Gloucester's Hill" (He confirmed the location from a battle field map in a text book of mine.
He returned to Korea after over forty years and was gratified at the immense changes (for the better) that he saw.

    A fascinating upload.
    Thank you Forces news.
And, as always, thank you to our servicemen and women.
And of course all our allies ones too.

His understatement is charming - he was engaged in some of the most brutal fighting of the war in that Chinese spring offensive. A brave fellow, one of many. who faced a nightmare in the name of duty and to whom we owe great thanks. In this 'forgotten war' mention of the courageous participation of the Commonwealth and our other combatant allies is far too rare. We thank them all.

This is awesome. Been to S.Korea myself last year all very nice people and on sorting streets they have countries flags/names on the sidewalks of countries that fought and helped them during the S.Korea war.. The war museums they have is definitely worth a visit and free admission if anyone is heading that way :D

My Grandfather (from Sussex) fought and was the Head Commander for his Tank squadron. He joined at 18 (illegally) trying to help.
He later became that Commander only to have his whole squadron blown up and leaving him being the only live survivor.
He passed away in 2021 and aged 88 years old.
That man lived through ww2 having his house blown up to fighting in the war to leaving/fleeing to Canada to save his children from being drafted potentially in the cold war
Had no money or family to help him in canada, raised his family as a foreigner all alone hoping for a safer and brighter future.

🙏 So sorry and grateful. Without him, there is no country, no me. That's a fact. And I doubt we Koreans would have sacrificed so much for a tiny insignificant country.
Better men have died for us. Bless you.

The valor of the British troops in Korea is the subject of the video. - At the same time, I'd trade a couple of those references to the United Nations for references to the United States, which also participated in the war.

The British were under Australian command in the Korean War. MacArthur had complete contempt for the British, he particularly accused them of perfidy and didn’t trust them unless commanded by Australians.

I don't think it's really a forgotten war, most people I know at least know that it happened, and I think everyone who knows anything about Korea has heard the phrase "The Korean War started in 1950, but still officially goes on to today"
