Hello, Just a little tip to get the stitch marks to go the other way just use the other side of the leather. If you have thin leather go right through , if a bit thicker the use an awl.
good job young lady, you made that look easy but in reality it's quite difficult and takes many many hours of leather working to achieve that level of the trade so with that said, THANX from Texas
Great...a new video...! Just finished watching your last one....Would it be possible to film the making of a crupper and dock, the correct way, linseeds and all...? I spent a year at Capel Manor, couldn't afford 2nd year, sadly missed lots of stuff...I think people would find that very interesting, not just me. I admire your work. Thanks !
Hi Gaz, glad to hear you like the videos 😁 I usually charge about £50 for this sort of case, I've just had some more complex cases ordered with a silicone/plastic case to be stitched in to the leather and made into a book type case which will cost more (due to the extra time to make them) hope that helps. Jo
J.H.Leather Wow £50 seems incredibly reasonable considering all the time and effort you put into it, not to mention your beautiful workwomanship and the materials. Like I said I love your videos they are thoroughly absorbing. Really looking forward to your next one.
Hiya +HonestDoubter, yes I used 2-2.5mm bridle shoulder for this one. It's all about practice with points, if you have scrap bits of leather you can use them to just cut points over and over.
hi Jo, thank you for sharing your passion. practical splitter machine i've seen in your videos, where can i find one? or if you advise of something else
Hello +Hassan el Sayyed, glad you like the videos 😁 The splitting machine I have is a Joseph Dixon one, unfortunately they have gone out of business. You could possibly pick one up off ebay though. Weaver leather supply do one called "economy heritage leather skiver", C.S Osborne do a splitting machine and tandy leather craft also sell one. (if you are in the UK Abbey England sell the Osborne ones). Hope this helps. Jo
that was quick. didn't find a JD, but ended up with interesting options at Bruce Johnson's Vintage Leather Tools brucejohnsonleather.com/leather-tools-sale/leather-bench-machines-sale/ thank you Jo
There seams to be a trend of putting belt loops really low on the part ! I like whatever I have on the belt not to ride higher than the top of my belt .
Hi Dale, if you don't want the belt loop there you can make a slightly different loop to attach that will let the case hang from the belt instead. You will need to have a strip of leather that you can fold around your belt and can then be stitched onto the case. Hope that makes sense, Jo
Hello, I make my own edge stain with wallpaper paste and powder dye from Abbey England. 7:40.. In the illustration. The side piece. The lines are running the other direction on the end where its rounded. Only that end are the lines leaning left.. Is that a mistake or is that right?
I didn't notice that, the normal stitch marks are all around on the side pieces and the portmanteau are on the main body where these attach. Sorry for the mix up in my diagram!
Hello +Buffalo49 I got it custom made by Denis from Celtic Knife Craft on Etsy he used an old knife as a pattern for the blade on this one, it's amazing!! He is moving house in a bit but here is his store on Etsy if you message him he can let you know more www.etsy.com/uk/shop/CelticKnifeCraft Jo
I love watching and listening to you, Jo. I wish I was your apprentice. LOL
Thanks Robert 🙂
Just found you on RUclips. Your videos are so informative and clear. I am learning so much. Thank you so much for sharing.

I'm interested to see the next episodes of the headcollar tutorials!

Hi Great video and Great work as always. Can you tell me how many stitches per inch your pricking irons are for this phone case. Many thanks Paul
Thanks Paul 🙂 for this case I used no7 stitch markers
J.H.Leather Thank you very much 😀
Good idea about making a drawing the stitching to complete explanation.
Thank you, didn't think my explanation alone would be enough.
Perfect as usual
Thank you 🙂
Hi Jo, I love watching your videos. How much would you normally charge for an average sized phone case?
Hi Gaz, glad to hear you like the videos 😁 I usually charge about £50 for this sort of case, I've just had some more complex cases ordered with a silicone/plastic case to be stitched in to the leather and made into a book type case which will cost more (due to the extra time to make them) hope that helps. Bonito job. thanks for your video.
👍
Great videos. Thanks for sharing.
Jo, was that bridle leather? You make me envious when you cut your points and rounds - I can't do it well even with a template!
Hiya +HonestDoubter, yes I used 2-2.5mm bridle shoulder for this one. It's all about practice with points, if you have scrap bits of leather you can use them to just cut points over and over.

Pro Job Thanks
your utter is amazing
Why does the angle of the pricking irons matter, since you're poking it with a sewing awl, anyway?
Yes, so the awl is shaped like a diamond and not round and needs to follow the slant of the irons to get the stitching correct.
Hello, love from India, could you please tell me the edge paint that you used. Here the edge paints from tandy and others are very very expensive

J.H.Leather ... Ok cool.. I'm more of a visual learner so I was studying the diagram and that's how I noticed.. Thank you for the reply 😀
Hi - did you study at Capel Manor?
Yeah, I started there in Sept 2008. Jo
thought so, i did too and i recognised a lot of the tools they gave us as a starter kit.
@ 1:51 - where did you get that knife?
Hello +Buffalo49 I got it custom made by Denis from Celtic Knife Craft on Etsy he used an old knife as a pattern for the blade on this one, it's amazing!! He is moving house in a bit but here is his store on Etsy if you message him he can let you know more www.etsy.com/uk/shop/CelticKnifeCraft Jo
What leather is it?
Hello, I use 2-2.5mm veg tan bridle shoulder for the main part of the case and sheep nappa for the lining
☕️👍🍰
Great video, I wish you would slow down a little.
Nice work, but you talk way too fast for me to follow what you are saying.
