KILLER Fluke Rigging Tip/Technique For Shallow Spring Bass (Smallmouth Bass Fishing)

- Spring bass fishing for smallmouth bass can be some of the best action of the year. I'm fishing a scenic highland reservoir on an 82 degrees day with wind in late April and it was the perfect recipe for shallow spring bass fishing for aggressive smallmouth. The water temperatures started in the mid 50's, but quickly rose into the 60's and turned the smallmouth bass on big time!!! I threw the jerkbait most of the day for smallmouth bass and even pulled in a couple walleye, but I picked up a nose hooked fluke later in the day and went to town in the shallows. There is no way I could show you all of the smallmouth bass I caught, but enjoy action and a killer fluke rigging tip and technique!!!

Try the river below the lake. Plenty of big trout down there. Brown, Brook and Cutthroat state records all came from there.

What type of hook are you using on the fluke with the Spring lock? The Pickerel at Loch Raven are sheering my line when fishing with a 3/0 EWG. That setup could reduce my break offs with the line being further away from the fluke. Thanks!

Nose hooking a fluke creates such a different action than a standard t-rig. Rigging tip: Before heading out, use a standard hole punch and punch out something plastic. Throw these in your hitchhiker bag. When rigging, after hooking the fluke poke the plastic hole punch piece past the barb. This will prevent them from throwing the bait, especially the smallies.

The Rerange is a great jerkbait! I’ve been cracking them good in Erie pa. Also the Zodias 6’10” Med is my go to jerkbait rod, the Expride is so hard to find haha! Great video!
