Bro that is a great video. I took my 2021 F150 2.7 in just today, and with a discount of $12.50, I still paid $92.00. For a freakin' oil change. I am doing it myself from now on. I will get everything you used in this video. Great pan and very cool plug. I appreciate your detailed explanation.
Wow that’s a pricey oil change. I take mine to a local shop, 6 qts of semi syn oil and filter & lube for $39, tax and shop supply’s included. It’s tough to buy the oil and filter for that price. I have it changed about every 2500 mi as I don’t drive much in a yrs time. Otherwise it would be changed at 4000 mi intervals if I drove more
That drain pan was a great purchase. After 30 years of changing my oil and transferring/spilling I bought one. I have a 2018 and don’t know that the Ronin will fit behind that cross member. The stock plug, if you crack it and just hold it in the opening the oil will flow down vertically. But you have to hold it the entire time.
When I take that access panel off I only remove 3 of the 8 mm bolts. Then I loosen the 4th bolt ( rear passenger side bolt ) . That lets me rotate the panel out of my way. When it's time to put it back on I just rotate it back into position and the other 3 holes line right up. Also I use a cordless drill with a 1/4 inch driver with a 8mm socket on it. Good video.
That drain plug is definitely nice and pretty, but I prefer the oil to rush out. Oil rushing out will pick up any type of settlement at the bottom of your pan. A little oil on my hands never bothers me.
The good part of the ronin is that it has a magnetic end on the inside which collects any shavings. Plus your filter should be cleaning the oil for any non medal sediment.
The plug isn’t on the bottom of the pan so there is about a 1/2” at the bottom of the pan to the drain. So I would think if there was any sediment it would still be laying on the bottom of the pan and not getting “flushed” out
I have one of these and love it, but I did learn that leaving the filler cap in when opening the drain slowed the flow coming out just a bit, after it slows then I would remove the fill cap . But this Ronin still let’s the flow come out very quickly, just better managed if you use a hose the way it is shown here
I like to put silicone grease on the reusable filter housings the end the threads and gaskets it makes it a lot easier to get it off if somebody overtightens it
Thanks for the video. I just installed one and discovered the internal part of the plug is magnetic similar to aircraft oil fittings to inspect for metal chips.
Great job dude! I love that drain plug, definitely will be looking in to one.. and, with that skid plate, that’s underneath, try leaving the one bolt in tours Passenger side back. Just leave that one screw in loosely and then you can just move the whole thing out of your way without taking it completely down. It makes it a lot easier when reinstalling. That’s usually how I do it.peace!..I have that same funnel. I actually won that funnel at a golf tournament.Thats funny! .
Great video. Two in one. I’m definitely getting a few things you recommended for my next oil change. Also you have the best price for the oil filters🙌🏾
My only concern with the fancy Ronan plug is if you go to a service bay instead of DIY. Assume they may not have the special adapter to drain. As an owner I would not bring that device with me if traveling away from home.
Awesome video! Thanks so much!! The oil pan link in the description doesn’t bring any results on Amazon. The link looks broken or the product is unavailable. Any other link you could send?
Should wait after shut down 15 minutes minimum before checking the level (it is mentioned in the manual). The engine is designed to drain slowly from the upper end. My own 2.7 takes near 1/2 an hour to finish draining.
That’s the downfall of having a shop changing the oil, they don’t allow enuf time for a good drainage of the block. At most my mechanic lets it drain 12-15 min, the time to lube and change the filter
@@kenm4678 I have a 2 wd dr also but figured the location of the sway bar was in the same place for either drive system. One time I seen my guy make a helluva mess when he was changing the oil, popped the plug quickly and the oil came shooting out and splashing all over the floor. It’s that reason that I haven’t changed my oil in my driveway
@@pathunter7003 If not 2 vs 4wd then it's the year difference between my son's 2019 and my 2017 2wd. My 2017 2wd has the sway bar 2 inches farther back than my son's F150.
Awesome video thanks for sharing you just saved me $80.00 by doing it myself I like wrenching on my MC & truck. Question where did purchase the oil filter from?. Thanks again.
I had an oil pan like that, but the cap did not stay on well it leaked if it was lying flat now i just use a big square transmission funnel with a mesh pad in it on top of a regular oil pan. makes it hard to miss and does not splash. then dump it in a heavy duty 5-gallon jug from tractor supply.
The only problem with these valves is, the pan is a side drain hole instead of bottom hole, so the inside lip of the ronnin keeps the bottom 2 ounces from coming out. Those bottom 2 ounces are where most of the sludge will build up.
Curious if anyone uses this with skid plates that have an access door to the drain plug. Looks like this ronin plug would be harder to use than a Fumoto since the piece needs to be screwed in to release oil.
After having done this at least 5x since this video, I’d say it’s an additional 1.5 2minutes of draining. A fair trade off considering I’m not spending ANY time cleaning up oil with my old plug.

I store my ronan oil plug with an old siphon hose attached to it in the swingout tailgate store bin. Definitely worth it.
Perfect idea. May have to steal that one.

Definitely a game changer. A “must have” if you plan on doing your own oil changes IMO.

@pathunter7003 definitely won't at a trickle.
Your funnel works good with the ford plug. Pull the plug right into that big red funnel works good.

Great video and great product. I ordered the Ronnin oil plug. I'm always proud to support another American company 💪😎
Thank you for saying that. It is refreshing. Not a whole lot of US companies making stuff anymore. Thanks again. I’ll see you in the next video 🤙🏻

Nice oil plug and great demo, but $60 on Amazon? I think I can put up with a little splash for that.
I don’t blame you. If you have a driveway that you really don’t want any spills on it’s worth it.
I'll use an oil change pump. No mess, no hassle.
If ya got one that’s a great option. Thanks for watching man.

Does it get all the oil out with the oil pump?

Those bottom 2 ounces are where most of the sludge will build up.
Does this work for the 2022 powerboost???
Do you still remove the entire unit after all the oil drains to get that last little bit of oil on the bottom of the pan?
I do, the ronin plug is nice to minimize the mess but still leaves a few ounces in the oil pan. I pull out the ronin every oil change
Curious if anyone uses this with skid plates that have an access door to the drain plug. Looks like this ronin plug would be harder to use than a Fumoto since the piece needs to be screwed in to release oil.
