Thank you for the update! Seaview is very near and dear to my heart as I grew up there, now that I have personally been affected by the disaster in Valencia Spain where I live now, it hits even closer as I have seen the destruction and devastation of water and the land.
I wish you would do a Q and A. first it's sad to see people lose everything they worked for. second why would anybody buy in a landslide. I really don't care how slow it was it's moving. Fema usually comes in and buy out the people. the vales have dropped more than 60%. Thanks for the video and I'm praying for the people.
@@PalosVerdesHouses I was just wondering why someone would build/buy a house on moving land, even if it move a couple inches a year. The whole thing is interesting but I'm not making light of the loss people are having. Almost feels like state should give residents somthing and make a park out of it.
I feel so sad for these people who bought these homes. But, I don't understand why houses were allowed to be built there. I remember vividly that everyone knew even back in the 1970s that this area wasn't stable and was subject to movement. Weird and sad to me.
There is an LA Times letter / article which explains why land in Palos Verdes was developed over the objections of the city. The title from the LA Times; “Letters to the Editor: Why homes were built on the Rancho Palos Verdes landslide. It’s not the city’s fault.” - Essentially, a property owner can sue a city due to the loss of value if the property is not allowed to be developed. Due to the lawsuit, the city decided to allow the development.
yes, there are some new cracks off Crest road in Rolling Hills that are of concern - by the Fire station and Quailridge road which had not shown movement before. Hopefully they can be corrected. Thanks.....
Thank you@@PalosVerdesHouses this greatly saddens me. This area brought me great happiness as a child when my brother and I would walk the top of the hill and down to the ocean. I’ll continue to pray for the houses to be successfully reinforced where possible and comfort for those individuals who have to relocate.
I grew up in the View Park area of L.A. Every time that we drove to Rolling Hills approaching at the bottom of the hill I would feel the saddest feelings. This happrned from the 60's onward. Always the same feelings. Deep, deep sadness. Such a beautiful area but I never wanted to live there. Always a sense of unease and foreboding. A good dowser could help.
How do homeowners feel about the announcement? FEMA, Cal OES announce $42 million voluntary buyout program to Rancho Palos Verdes homeowners impacted by land movement
From what I read.... If you qualify with 1st a red tag.... or a yellow tag home.... It's then limited.... Being the cost of the homes is a lot... 15 have applied - maybe only 5 or at most 10 can apply & the $42M is gone....
Filling in the fissures - seems a bit pointless since they are symptoms of the land moving not the actual planes in motion. Likewise the water draining in the canyon is doing what topography dictates. Its the underground water every else and higher up that is lubricating things.
I could see a solution where you permit "Tiny Homes" that can be moved as the land moves. If you want more space, you can part and join them together. Solar powered with flexable water and sewer lines in and out. If you build something stuck to the earth, you will soon live in someone else's property. You might have a tough time with the "Pumping Idea".
Thanks for the clear explanation Jason. Sorry this happened to folks. Its terrible for these families, kids in school and older retired folks are hit the worst. Not hard to imagine earthquake or fire doing this to any of us. But greedy developers and corrupt city officials have allowed this. Not clear who should pay for the greed now that their luck has run out. Not true that they didn't know.. NOT TRUE. All known structural and faulty issues need to be disclosed on real estate property when its sold!! ( That means you real estate agents). City PV councils should be indicted for corruption. County Crenshaw project developers should go to jail. I'm sure a lot of the true data came out in the court case. This also exposes the corrupt and greedy insurance industry. Families paid for house insurance for decades and now get nothing. GREED will have its day - but not forever.

@ yeah- I have a tough time with the humidity. Palos Verdes is a great place to live! It’s unsettling how anyone can say we’re in a drought when so much water can be captured and used but is wasted. Not to mention, salt water could be converted into drinking water if the entities running things were into or had an interest in bettering humanity and our conditions. They could fix this problem in PV in a month, if they really wanted to. We need to quit being horrible to one another, quit being judgmental, quit being aholes, and just help. Don’t wait for them. YOU go to the bank…YOU make a debenture, get the funds necessary to facilitate whatever you think needs to be done. DEBENTURE! Our entire system is debt based. The US is bankrupt and the money is no longer backed by gold and silver. Fed Reserve is privately owned so go get the funds! There’s endless funds and endless credit…so go get it and be the hero you need.❤
Slide is 300 feet deep and moving very fast at that depth. There is no way. The other not insignificant problem is that taxpayers backstop the national debt. Other taxpayers should not bear the cost.
Money, money, money. It may be raining NOW, but it is not a long term situation. Geologically the soil is very reactive to water and filling up the fissure will not stabilze the landslide. The moving soil layer is below anything so the filled in land will just slide as well.
Over the years I have built countless house pads. If you are near a cliff side area you should be able to achieve 95% compaction...and if you cant because of soil conditions then build elsewhere!
Just as Jason was about to speak you distracted the viewer of this video with a secondary 'music' trak which only competed with the answer he was about to give. Did an Ice Cream Truck just pull up? Why would you suddenly play music just at the moment we want to hear from Jason?
the solution is to never build here and abandon this area. It's like arguing with God. no one is going to stop the uprising nor the sliding. There's nothing that can be done with the Bentonite. It's there, it's staying and it's not changing, it's not being diversity, equity or inclusion. It's Bentonite just doing its thing. And when the rain comes......

That is something to highly consider.
A $3M home now being pulled apart is now on the market for $1.3M. It will never sell.

Off grid and wheels on homes that can be moved is the only thing that belongs in an area where the land moves naturally.
