No, the snake and the demon passed is easily avoidable, just duck near the side of Devil's throne, under the snake's body slope. In this video, the position is between first and second right pillar, right beside the right armchair. Then you can shoot the demon which passed. In 1:12 you can see it.

the purple guys are NOT unavoidable during the snake attack. you can see the guys coming from the background, and if you know their timing, you can jump over them blind.
0:56 That's the hardest to dodge move in the game the 5 spinning fireballs especially if he combines it with the goat clap you're almost guaranteed to lose a life.
I usually have trouble with the homing ones, but found a little trick to dodge the fireballs. If you wait until they move into a roughly squarish shape you can just jump and dash right through them and then run away because they're slow to catch up. I do agree with the goat clap though, I can't begin to count how many times I took a hit because of that. That and when he turns into a skeleton and I end up dashing into him.
A tip for the first stage: When his head transforms into a dragon and takes up most of the stage, you can tell which way he's coming from by a slight bend in his neck at the top of the screen. Also, it is possible to dodge the demon coming from the side if you time your jump just right.
What he said "For this fight I recommend you stay in the middle of the stage where you can do the most damage, when the devil uses his arm attack you want to jump away from the middle of the stage and then dash back towards the middle this way you'll have plenty of time to avoid the arms. If the devil uses the bubble projectiles try to stick near the middle of the stage because they usually fly towards the outside of the stage after they spawn. For his fireball attack, head to the side of the stage so you can guide them to the corner and more easily dodge them. The spider attack is pretty easy to avoid it doesn't seem like the spider tracks your movement so I recommend mostly just standing in place and using dashes when necessary. If he does a spinning fiery attack parry the middle pink flame right away then jump in through the flames to avoid them. When he uses his serpents attack just run to the opposite end of the screen, if you get super unlucky there'll be a demon there which is unavoidable. Stay clear of the middle of the screen when he removes his skin to avoid the skeleton use your super attack right away. -During the second phase most of the time you want to be on the middle platform except for when the axe spawns. Parry the pink bomb as soon as it comes out so it doesn't explode. -For the third phase get as many hits on the boss as you can before jumping to the left platform to shoot the purple demon when it spawns. Use your super attack right away to take care of the other demon if you can it's really helpful to use your dash to avoid the flying bats. When he starts crying shoot his eyes while jumping around the poker chips do your best to pay attention to his tears because they can hurt you too"
Thanks for the tips mate, they proved incredibly useful. Man, this guy was tough, took me the best part of an entire afternoon to beat him. That spinny fire attack with the pink parryable bit in the middle was a right pain in the arse. It had a tendency to hang around on screen when he was going into his next attack, normally the hand slap thing. So annoying! Those 2 constantly spawning little demons were really annoying too. So glad the 4th phase was a relatively short one after all that.
I finally did it after 3 1/2 hours of frustration. Thank you for all your walkthroughs. They were very useful and got me through each and every fight TWICE. Twice because I first played it in simple not knowing I had to do them on regular to collect their soul contracts. I did it all from the start to the end and I’m so glad that I finished the game. Can’t wait for the DLC to come out hahaha!
Hi friend, being a member of the mentally AND phisically disables i really enjoyed this play through. It took me over7 weeks to finally reach this stage, and after 284 ettemps I decided to watch this tutorial. It helped me get to level 2 and beyond. After finally getting to the end the gosh dam frikin bomb didn’t explode so I died. I was devastated, even toying with the idea of ending it all. It left me in a dark place for about 2 hours until my mom dropped the skittles and I ate some. I have made a full recovery thanks to that. I haven’t yet completed it but may retry in about 3 months. Thank you so so so so so SO much! You make my willy happy?
Dr khals robot gave me insane trauma so i used djini lol , for the devil i just used a mix between the roundabout and the spread, good thing the devil took like another 10 seconds to release the purple thingys , and i used my super there .
Thank you for this video man! It really helped, I was struggling to beat the devil last week and I decided to jump on Cuphead today and try again. I beat him a few minutes ago and beat the game! I am so happy right now lol.
what I reccomend is when the 2nd phase starts, don't go in the portal, but stay as close to it as possible, then jump and aim left to shoot him, because at that point, his hitbox is broken and stored off to the side.
Very late to the party but picked up cuphead recently and loved it. So grateful for these guides though, they made my first playthrough much more enjoyable and not so frustrating! Thanks!!

Beat him today. For me it was one of the hardest bosses due to phase one with its RNG enemies. Tried it for 1,5 hours with the red weapon and smoke dash with no success. Then changed to the boomerang weapon and two extra hearts and beat him after the 3rd try. I could not believe that the boomerang weapon did more damage as the red one even with two extra hearts which lowers the total damage rate when used.
Hardest bosses, ranked according to me. 1. Dragon 2. Roller Coaster Clown 3. Devil 4. Genie 5. Pirate + I thought the German rat was really hard, but maybe that was just me

the thing is, when the devil does the clap move in the beginning it’s timed perfectly so if you ever try to use the jump towards and dash back strategy it nails the trajectory so that u get hit regardless

I managed to make it this far, playing double with my 8-years old son, who is totally obsessed with cuphead. He' still small and of course I had to do most of the hard lifting (he normally dies half-way through boss fights). Came here to get as many tips as possible preparing for the last step!
man those axes in the second phase ALWAYS hit me as soon as i'm done with the super. i got to his last phase where he cries 4 times and every single time i died RIGHT before he died,if i kept attacking him for 5 seconds he would've died i swear. his most annoying attack is still the dragon head one in phase 1 tho,if you get unlucky with the purple guys you get guaranteed damage which is terrible game design

I have almost finished up the game, but those pink dragon things at the end was just too much, that's why I looked up this video to se what's actually happens on the screen by that time. Now I know that I can kill the dragons lol. Thanks! I use the boomerang instead of the spread since I think it's more effective against....everything.
0:16 What I try to do is watch the floor and wait until his hooves have reached the first 2 spikes and then jump their. If youre int hat area, by the time you reach the ground, he'll reach back.
I'm currently facing him. The attack that I struggle avoiding the most is his fireballs. I'm trying to preserve my HP as much as possible for his 2nd form.
I actually think roundabout is the better weapon to use at least in the first phase. With the running devils come you don’t really need to worry about dodging them if you time your backward shot right
Oh I just noticed if you have a perfectly timed smoke dash, then you can dodge that unlucky demon that might spawn while he's using his serpent attack.
You can still avoid a demon if it comes from during the serpent attack if you jump, then dash into the wall. This stalls you in the air and when timed even just halfway decently, the demon runs underneath you. The tricky part is knowing when it’ll spawn, but remember that it’s telegraphed right behind the throne about 2 seconds before it appears.

I HIGHLY recommend using the roundabout weapon instead of spread. Roundabout does A LOT more damage.
Yaddlezap that’s why I’m so confused as to why Help Me I’m Stuck is using spread. Maybe spread does faster damage?

The spider head actually does track you, it just records your position when it spawns offscreen so you may not be able to tell.

1:42 you can actually parry the bomb before it even comes out, just parry his eye right before he’s about to turn

I managed to make it this far, playing double with my 8-years old son, who is totally obsessed with cuphead. He' still small and of course I had to do most of the hard lifting (he normally dies half-way through boss fights). Came here to get as many tips as possible preparing for the last step!
man those axes in the second phase ALWAYS hit me as soon as i'm done with the super. i got to his last phase where he cries 4 times and every single time i died RIGHT before he died,if i kept attacking him for 5 seconds he would've died i swear. his most annoying attack is still the dragon head one in phase 1 tho,if you get unlucky with the purple guys you get guaranteed damage which is terrible game design
If you have the DLC when he uses the bubble or fire ball spam the invincible roll.
I have almost finished up the game, but those pink dragon things at the end was just too much, that's why I looked up this video to se what's actually happens on the screen by that time. Now I know that I can kill the dragons lol. Thanks! I use the boomerang instead of the spread since I think it's more effective against....everything.
0:16 What I try to do is watch the floor and wait until his hooves have reached the first 2 spikes and then jump their. If youre int hat area, by the time you reach the ground, he'll reach back.
I'm currently facing him. The attack that I struggle avoiding the most is his fireballs.
I'm trying to preserve my HP as much as possible for his 2nd form.

I actually think roundabout is the better weapon to use at least in the first phase. With the running devils come you don’t really need to worry about dodging them if you time your backward shot right

Oh I just noticed if you have a perfectly timed smoke dash, then you can dodge that unlucky demon that might spawn while he's using his serpent attack.

u can crouch underneath the goat attack, that way if any purple minions are coming its easier

You can still avoid a demon if it comes from during the serpent attack if you jump, then dash into the wall. This stalls you in the air and when timed even just halfway decently, the demon runs underneath you. The tricky part is knowing when it’ll spawn, but remember that it’s telegraphed right behind the throne about 2 seconds before it appears.
