I also have the Mano Ultra mk.III5 Farad Music Streamer from Magna HiFi (regards Rob and Jos). However, for me there was an audible difference between Audirvāna and Roon. This may have been influenced by the fact that Audirvāna Studio is installed on GentooPlayer, i.e. directly on the streamer connected to the DAC via I2S. I listened to the test trial version for a very long time and with full awareness I chose Audirvāna Studio. If I were to briefly compare the character of each of them, I would say: Roon plays culturedly Audirvāna plays with detail and immersion. Thank you Hans for choosing the right topics. Thanks to you, I found Mano from Magna HiFi.
Have used both Audirvana and Roon; they have both made strides and I can confirm the sound quality is excellent with both today. This is most important to indicate as done here and then there's other individual criteria to consider. Both have DSP options to upsample DSD streaming and depending on your equipment, it's absolutely worth trying. Currently in my high end mono block tube amp system, Roon is very competitive with HQPlayer which many enjoy. YMMV but again, these are options worth trying in your system. Audirvana is far more inexpensive but don't rule it out. It's very well done and enjoyed by many.

@@PaoloCaminitiinteresting! Has Audirvana also a convolution engine ?
I bought the old Adirvana with the understanding that I would be able to continue to use it and get updates. That was about a week or a few weeks before they switched to subscription model and my lifttime use of the app became a temporary license. That left a very bitter taste. I tried the subscription version and it had issues and twice the volume randomly snapped to 100%. Good it didn't blow my speakers. And despite their claim back then on not modifying my files, it did. Good that I tested on a backup copy of my files and I just discarded them. I gave up Adirvana and stuck with the Elac Discovery server with Roon Essentials for a while until I bought the Roon lifetime license and built a fanless server. Maybe they have remedies the licnese issue for users with the old verson afterwards but it doesn't matter to me anymore. Wish Audirvana works well for users now.
Thank you Hans! I have an older Ps audio perfect wave DAC mkII with bridge version 1 (don't work with roon) I have tried almost every upnp and app and this is top notch cuz it's very similar to roon and it does gapless playback for me. Some setting for devices that don't support gapless playback audirvana has it. Don't need to run bubbleupnp. Only audirvana on my PC. Hello Hans, thanks for all the interesting contents professionally treated. I’ve like to buy the “Origin” version License to put it on a Mac Mini Apple silicon with four 4tb hard drives (16tb total) conmected with my personal music library. I plan to connect Mac directly with USB cable to a DAC (that I want to uograde) as you firstly shown. I’ve a limited budget, so which is the way to have the best sound quality possible? 1) Buy a Holo Cyan 2 with its galvanically isolated USB 2) Buy a DDC or any other digital inteface and a cheaper DAC (compared to Cyan 2) 3) Buy a DAC like the Gustard R26 that it’s supposed to support streaming protocols to let Audirvana Origin be connected with the ethernet cable (RJ45) instead of the standard USB cable connection. 4) your persona advice :) Thanks so much Hans in advance
@@kiudont And go for a Supra USB 2.0 Cable too. Very good, in longer lengths too, and inexpensive. I have the Cyan2 too, it’s a mellow sounding DAC. I combined it with a UPnP Lindemann Limetree bridge 2.
This stuff is so confusing to me... I've been an Audirvana Origin user for quite some time and I've tried Roon last week, now that the Volumio Motivo is finally Roon ready. And I do hear a difference, even though my system is nowhere near your 1b system and I'm pretty sure your ears are better than mine. I don't use a NAS, I ran everything Audirvana or Roon from a PC that is connected to the network and the Motivo as a DNLA (or RAAT) bridge. I wish I didn't heard any differences because I really dislike Audirvana interface, layout and lack of options. RAAT seemed way more robust, the Motivo had no problems with it. But DNLA is a whole process... you don't turn things on the right order and you won't hear music until you restart everything again in the order that is set on the stars for that particular day. Anyway, Happy New Year to you and yours!
Hans, you are a great and honest reviewer. Keep enjoying the work and the music, en fijne dagen!

No, haven't.

Great detail and info for a somewhat complex/multi option pathway topic

Thanks Hans! 🙏 I did install the Core on my Synology NAS, but unfortunately this device is not strong enough to work flawlessly.
Yes, you need an Intel i3 as minimum

Sorry to hear. I haven't tested the old version recently but the Studio version works fine..

Given the fact that in my setup there was no difference, it must be in the hardware.
