I have to recommend Mary: A Gig Theatre show whicy is being put on by a group of alumni from my university, telling the story of Mary Queen of Scots through scottish folk-rock music (I WISH I could see this but its on so late so I'm hoping people book the show and report back). Also I'm a big fan of the Tin Can Bros and they're bringing a shortened version of their one act play The Solve It Squad which is basically "what if the Scooby gang grew up and were deeply traumatised has-beens who try to relive the glory days with one last case to find Scoobys murderer" (its funnier than it sounds). I'm hoping to see that at the beginning of the month as a last show of the day thing.
I used your video to plan my fringe trip in 2023 and it was the best week and half ever!!! i saw some of the best shows because of your tips! thankyou so much! wish i was going again this year!
Thaaanks for making this video! The amount and variety of shows at the Fringe can be so overwhelming so it's so useful to have these recommendations and tips on how to go about choosing shows 😊
Can also highly recommend Godfather Death: A Grimms Musical . I saw it last year and it is phenomenal and very worthy of the 5 star reviews it got. A theatre show that gets put in comedy each year is "sh!t faced shakespeare" - an improv shakespear show with one actor being drunk. I always go every year, sometimes even twice. Also Solve It Squad is a parody musical based on scooby doo. It is part of kickstarter series by Tin Can Brothers (who are also members of Team Starkid)
I saw Gwyneth Paltrow - I Wish You Well yesterday (the one with Diana Vickers!) Very funny, the music was excellent. Tori Allen-Martin is BRILLIANT. Highly recommend!
I’m performing in The Hunchback of Notre Dame! we had nothing but five star reviews last year and met with a lot of love ❤ it’s such an honour to be part of such an amazing piece. I recommend anything Captivate Theatre are showing! Also my other recommendation is Perfect Forth’s “Warped” an amazing a cappella group, home grown in Edinburgh, exploring original arrangements and reflections on ourselves and our place in the world. ❤️
I recommend the Solve It Squad by the Tin Can Bros that’s coming to the Fringe this year (If I wasn’t already seeing them for Spy Another Day in September, I’d see them there) And if you can’t physically make it, there’s a youtube proshot of the OG run :)))
@@azelmamortlake4471 no, it’s a Rocky Horror style concert performance of Spies Are Forever (the proshot is played with audience participation and they perform the songs) They did it in LA back in april (digi ticket available now)
I'm not going to a single one of those (although I saw one last year and didn't get on with it) and thats exactly why I love the Fringe. We're spoiled for choice! This year I'm particularly looking forward to The Shroud Maker, A Singular Deception and finally getting to the Really Terrible Orchestra
It's the most wonderful time of the year! My Fringe starts this week in Hamilton ON and I feel you with the difficulty planning a schedule! I'm reviewing approximately 25 shows in 5 days. It's still a huge bucket list to go to Edinburgh Fringe and I appreciate that I can enjoy this through your reviews!!
If I was going to the fringe, I would want to see solve it squad by tin can bros, and into the woods is my favourite musical so I would be trying to see performance of that
I only saw this production of Cyrano once but it was such an excellent piece of theatre; I basically only watched this video to make sure it’s on your must watch list!
Highly highly recommend Cyrano! I saw the original Australian run and it was one of the best things I've ever seen. Virginia Gay is an Australian icon and so excited for her to get the international recognition she deserves!
great video! A history of paper is selling out because the Playwright - Olly Emanuel - passed away earlier this year. He was a big name is the Scottish industry so everyone was very shaken
If anyone is there before the 11th there are two shows that are hidden gems and absolute must sees. “Why did I crush my balls” and “Sisyphean Quick Fix” both of them were absolutely incredible
Tam O Shanter by Edinburgh Ballet Theatre! An original ballet by a really wonderful group of adult ballet dancers! A very inclusive company for age, gender, ability, size etc.
Hope you have a great Fringe! Really interesting hearing how you figure out and whittle down what to watch, can't wait to hear what wins you over. A bit too commercial for your trip, but my daughter is excited to be performing in the Fringe for the first time in Matilda Jr with Captivate so that has determined my initial ticket purchases! 😂
Hi, as someone who is a also a huge fan of A Slightly Isolated Dog, they are actually New Zealand. Although I wish they visited us in Australia more often!
I highly recommend Sisyphean Quick Fix at the Pleasance Courtyard! It’s a serious but heartfelt auto-biographical play about the realities of alcoholism. I had watched the preview run in Malta as the writer (who is also acting in the piece) as well as the other actor (it’s a two-hander) are both Maltese. I had enjoyed it very much.
Oooh! Diary of a Gay Disaster is a MUST-SEE! I managed to see that when it was at the Kings Head last year! Absolutely enjoyed it! Really hope I can get up to Edinburgh next year for the Fringe!
Hi, as a new musical I would recommend going to see Alfie. It has been refined through performances with community theatre groups and highlights the effects of PTSD and life in the army.
Go and see "Alfie" 😁 it's beautifully heartfelt and written by a great talented friend of mine. - Alfie is an original musical about two boys, their journey through life and experiences in the army. The show highlights the effect of PTSD and how it affects not only the soldiers but the families surrounding them as well. 3-10th August it is showing at 14:05 at Paradise in Augustines - The Sanctuary
Omg, I made my own spreadsheet so I could sort them in this way but I listed like 200 as the starting point. It took me forever, I can't believe there was such a simple way lol
Please tell me you used your spreadsheet to plan a day when you travel back and forth between the two most distant theatres. We need another "The Great Race" videos! I'm so glad you mentioned SILENCE! (directed by Christopher Galletti, SCHMIGADOON< DEATH BECOMES HER).I've seen it many times and it always has me sobbing with laughter. But be warned, or, HOORAY! it is RAUNCHY. Did I see that you're staying on the PLAYBILL cruise ship?
I know you prefer to go see new shows, as you said, but since Into The Woods is your favourite, I can highly recommend Bare Productions - sure the other company doing it will be great too, but Bare always produce amazing shows, and are Edinburgh-based. I can also recommend The Steamie at Gilded Balloon if you've never seen The Steamie before - classic piece of Scottish theatre that deserves to keep being seen! Enjoy your time here :)! X
I would so recommend a Loctomotive for Murder by PinchPunchImprov. It’s entirely made up with characters created by the audience and it is so fun and different every time!
It will be my first Fringe so I am very excited... Just a question, how much should I budget for? I have a running list but it looks like it will cost me £200 to watch them all
Weird plug but two of my college professors wrote Kafka's metamorphosis, and I got to see a preview at the end of their rehearsals. Definitely check it out because it's very weird silly and profound all at once!!
I am stage managing a show going to the fringe this year called FUFC. If anybody is up there the show dates are the 5th to the 11th. We are performing at The Space Venue 39
some of my friends are performing at the fringe! I'm so sad i can't make the 12 hour trip to see them :( so please go see the water babies if you can!!!
Unless it has been massively re written since I saw it 10 years ago, Every Brilliant Thing is not a musical! It's the perfect show for the intimate Roundabout, being a performed by one person and an audience. Highly recommend - simultaneosly funny and moving.
I'm part of the Half-Trick theatre company and we're putting on Antonio's Revenge (an even more batshit crazy version of Hamlet) and The Faustus Project (where your fav fringe actors come and join our show for a night to sell their soul to the devil) feel free to check us out, we're performing at 10:30pm at the c arts alto studio and i can promise lots of laughs, lots of gore and lots of fun ofc x
I wish there was a way on the website to look just for “new writing”. Like into the woods is also my favorite musical of all time, but at the fringe I want to see something fringe-y
You may have found this by now but it's under advanced search. It's under category and genre. It defaults to category but there's a tab that says genre. "New writing" is one of the options. Hope this helps.
Could I please pop in a recommendation for my close friends play Trashed. It's an unconventional coming of age story focused on two women and their respective boyfriends and their different beliefs when it comes to religion and relationships. It's a really brilliant play by a group of young talents from Warwick University. Trashed will be at Just the Tonic from the 11-18th of August! Please check out if you can!
Shameless plug... ukshowchoir are coming to the Fringe. We are an acappella choir doing musical theatre. Also holding workshops so you learn an iconic theatre tune 😊
‘This Porno does not pass the Bechdel Test!’ 19th - 25th August 14:00 Greenside @Riddles court A new dark comedy exploring the effects of easily accessible pornography! Fierce, funny, feminist!
Hey! You saw me in Kinky Boots in 2022… do you want to come see my one woman musical about poo? Anna Soden: It Comes Out Your Bum is on 12th-14th at 6.25pm 🚽💖 (only for 3 days cos I couldn’t afford any longer lol)
I have to recommend Mary: A Gig Theatre show whicy is being put on by a group of alumni from my university, telling the story of Mary Queen of Scots through scottish folk-rock music (I WISH I could see this but its on so late so I'm hoping people book the show and report back).

awh thank you so much for recommending Mary: A Gig Theatre Show!! Love, Team Mary

Ah Fringe the Musical (the hair dresser one) is fantastic! I can’t recommend it enough!!
I recommend the Solve It Squad by the Tin Can Bros that’s coming to the Fringe this year (If I wasn’t already seeing them for Spy Another Day in September, I’d see them there)
And if you can’t physically make it, there’s a youtube proshot of the OG run :)))
Not up on the Tin Can Bros news, but loved SaF- is Spy Another Day a sequel to SaF?
@@azelmamortlake4471 no, it’s a Rocky Horror style concert performance of Spies Are Forever (the proshot is played with audience participation and they perform the songs)

I HAVE been waiting for this video!! Wooo! The Edi Fringe is my favourite time of year!
If I was going to the fringe, I would want to see solve it squad by tin can bros, and into the woods is my favourite musical so I would be trying to see performance of that
I’ve never been to Edinburgh or the Fringe, but I eagerly await this video (and your vlogs) every year. Hope you have a lovely time!
Fringe the Musical (hairdresser edition) is incredible, definitely DEFINITELY one to watch
I’ve seen Fringe the Musical (hairdresser one) and it’s incredible! Such a refreshing and uplifting script !!!
21:19 I saw this production three times in Australia it is PHENOMENAL!!! ❤❤❤
I only saw this production of Cyrano once but it was such an excellent piece of theatre; I basically only watched this video to make sure it’s on your must watch list!
Thank you, this video has been really helpful! X

I’ve seen that fringe the musical (the one about hairdressers) and I mean…sure? Hahahaha, it was funny and light-hearted and will be a good time
I didn’t send a message, but I have been waiting for this video
Tam O Shanter by Edinburgh Ballet Theatre! An original ballet by a really wonderful group of adult ballet dancers! A very inclusive company for age, gender, ability, size etc.
I've got a Front of House job at the fringe this year! Hopefully see you there!
I've found the "plan my fringe" app to be absolutely essential for, well, planning my fringe
LOVE the app!
Hi, as someone who is a also a huge fan of A Slightly Isolated Dog, they are actually New Zealand. Although I wish they visited us in Australia more often!
As I said it I thought "wait are they from New Zealand" 😂
Hi you can now export favourites to a schedule format from edfringe, useful if you plan to see lots of shows.
Yes I also watched it. It was truly fantastic.

“Brochure” lol. It’s a phone book
GO SEE FRINGE THE MUSICAL (hairdresser one) 🎀💇♀️

I’m definitely interested in seeing Frances Ruffelle’s show with her partner “The Scot and the Showgirl” - always been a huge fan of her.
I say you should see "I Did Something I Shouldn't Have..." it's a really interesting play, it does go quite dark but it is a must see.
Would highly recommend Captivate Theatres Hunchback of Notre dame, had a smash hit run last year as well as mentioned in Playbill
Our comedy show SunDate Roast is premiering Monday 19th of Aug, and is for all the dating survivors!
Would love you see you there, if free :)
This was SO helpful thank you 🥰
Omg, I made my own spreadsheet so I could sort them in this way but I listed like 200 as the starting point. It took me forever, I can't believe there was such a simple way lol
If you're up for something slightly different, a local group who sold out last year is doing Trial by Jury by G&S - we'd love to see you there!
Please tell me you used your spreadsheet to plan a day when you travel back and forth between the two most distant theatres. We need another "The Great Race" videos! Would highly recommend Godfather Death if you can fit it into your busy schedule. Was one of my favourite musicals I saw last year at the fringe
I would so recommend a Loctomotive for Murder by PinchPunchImprov. It’s entirely made up with characters created by the audience and it is so fun and different every time!
I highly recommend Madeleine Rowe's one-person show - Knight Knight - at the Underbelly George Square.
Thanks. Just to clarify, you plan to only post Fringe reviews on Instagram and TikTok? Not any on RUclips?
Have to recommend The Theory of Relativity from Rockford University!

Have you heard anything about Rob Madge's show coming to NY?
some of my friends are performing at the fringe! I'm so sad i can't make the 12 hour trip to see them :( so please go see the water babies if you can!!!
Are you going to see anything at the main festival, as well as the Fringe? I personally tend to prefer the shows at the main festival
Unless it has been massively re written since I saw it 10 years ago, Every Brilliant Thing is not a musical! It's the perfect show for the intimate Roundabout, being a performed by one person and an audience. Highly recommend - simultaneosly funny and moving.
I saw every brilliant thing it’s recorded for HBO!

I'm going to see Chemo Savvy as I love the cast and loved the actor Andy Gray who inspired it.
Shameless plug... ukshowchoir are coming to the Fringe. We are an acappella choir doing musical theatre. Also holding workshops so you learn an iconic theatre tune 😊

The strike has been called off, thankfully.
