Hi Jess I really hope to see you in St. Catherine one day even tho they don’t really talk about Spanish Town and Linstead etc…., it’s a wonderful parish.
. Yes. I live in St Catherine. Emancipation Square, St Jago Church and the Iron Bridge are places I take visitors to. I also love @cameronfamilytv in old harbour bay. I have tahen trips with them to Goat Iskand.
Trevor drove off his route. He charged you more because it was a charter. It's $300 if the car is loaded with 5 passengers. $300 × 5 people equals $1500. Trevor was honest
Knowledge is everything, and so is money! Nice blog Jess, Marie sound like she living her best life out of UK. Thankyou for showing such beautiful and creative spaces.
Alsoooo just to put it out there, getting hustled and getting charged different prices as a tourist happens in every country and it is so normal. It’s not just in Jamaica that this happens and I’m definitely not mad about it… it’s just the name of the game 😅
Yes, I did not fully appreciate the taxi drivers were quoting 'charter rates' as I had based my argument on the fact that I had previously paid 200 jmd to go to Norman Manley airport, with other passengers. Nevertheless, I gave Trevor a substantial tip for taking Jess and I to Port Royal and paid the regular fare 300 jmd on our way back as we were sharing with others.
It's the name of the game because of thought processes like yours. We shouldn't call getting ripped off normal because it's done all over the world. A injustice is a injustice.
Yes, Trevor was so genuine we had to give him a tip. Thankfully, he waited in Port Royal so we along, with two others were able to travel back for 300 jmd ( non charter rates) as the JUTC bus was not running that day.
Yes, it would be great if the port authority reinstated the ferry, as it is very much needed in Kingston. Furthermore, we now have tourists coming in via cruise ships into the Port of Kingston, so reinstating ferries may be a viable option.
@@blessupjess The ferry stopped operating years ago, used to run from downtown waterfront to Port Royal. Once JUTC started operating to Port Royal, the Ferry died out.

Hi Jess, Blessings! Hope you're doing well. You've been truly missed but at the same time I understand your taking time out to look for life's directions. Hope you come back soon to the beautiful Island of Jamaica. You're content is amazing and genuine.
So $300 * 4 passengers = $1,200, $300 * 5 passengers = $1,500. So a route taxi driver would make between $1200 - #1500 per trip one way. Trevor gave an extremely good deal. And because he had difficulty getting passenger for the trip back to Down Town, he decided to wait on you both instead of going back half empty or empty. That is why the other taxi men were quoting a higher price because of the risk of not finding enough passengers for the return journey.
Welcome to Jamrock and downtown Kingston. Grew up as a child in Kingston and remember all these places like Fleet Street and South Side. Just be safe and be aware of your surroundings. There are a lot of hustlers on the streets of Jamaica.

It was all good with the taxi drivers, I simply overlooked the fact that they were quoting " charter rates" . In hindsight i ought to have asked a local of the going rates. As stated, the JUTC bus fare is 100 jmd, however there were not operating that day.
@onestopculturaltoursja Yea I understand but I mean I just couldn't be bothered with all the haggling. I guess you had to as you needed to get where u were going. 😀
Jess you are so beautiful and thank you for coming to our beautiful island. I'm from Ocho rios which is more tourist . You handle the local travel well.
At the end of the day, not everything is a barter. 1500 JMD is not a lot of money like it was stated on screen of the video. That's less than a tenner here in the UK. Here in LDN it costs a minimum £4 to get from A to B on trains. I don't see how anyone can expect private travel at local bus prices - the comfort level is different, and you are paying for convenience. Even 2000-2500 JMD or whatever the man stated is not a bump because that is two grown passengers he was carrying with NO other passengers to squish up next to like sardines. When I was out there, I found the locals to be very honest and fair with rates. Not everything is a hustle, sometimes people just know their worth and want to be paid accordingly in line with the service they're providing. I wonder how many of us would be charging peanuts if we were driving taxis full time for a living. I bet we'd all think we're the shit and that we deserve premium dollar rates for our services. 😂. Sometimes, see things from a different perspective and put yourself in their shoes. Yes, we come for a bargain. But they work, for profit. Nobody is offering up their time anymore to simply break even.
Yes, I acknowledge your comments. Jess and I were seeking regular rates to share taxi with others, but they all quoted charter rates. It was all good anyway, as we paid Trevor a substantial tip for his services.
Well it’s not unfair because like Trevor told you it’s now become a charter because you don’t have to wait around until the taxis food so if you want to wait around until the taxi is full then you will pay your 300 but if you want to empty taxi to take just you then they gonna charge you for all the seats that they would have so it is a fair price I believe

Yes, I suspect that as the 98 JUTC bus was not running that day, the taxi drivers felt they could charge a little more for their services.
The lesson is to always ask a local what the fare is before approaching a taxi driver, as you would do in any country, as this is not unique to Jamaica.
Do you know how far port royal is , $1500 is more dan reasonable
@jeremyg6123 Yes, a charter rate of 1,500 jmd is reasonable, however, we were being charged far more, possibly due to the fact that the 98 JUTC bus not running that day.
As in any country, the key is to ask a local the price of an item/service before approaching the vendor.
