I have to disagree with your choice of guardian spirit; the shark also gives life drain on yokai ability usage, which is great for survivability, and has anima gain on ranged hit, which really helps when you use bolts andr anged magic. And, to top it off, 200bonus hp. The 20% lightning damage is nice, but it's not as great as the survivability on the shark.
Hatchets are just as good as a sorcerer weapon: they scale with both magic and courage, the two stats that boost Onmyo power; They also allow a more ranged playstyle, which some mages will prefer.
I am gonna disagree hard on feral being easiest to use for burst counter, that award probably goes to phantom, feral is more risk/reward because an attack has to connect, if you’re too late or early you whiff, and some attacks don’t track well enough to even hit the damn thing. (Looking at you, Enki body slam) Phantom all you have to do is activate it, It’s only draw back is you get stuck in place briefly, but Enki monkey dance and waira are great at avoiding damage. Brute is probably second easiest for burst. Just because you interrupt an attack before it comes down, you see a red flash? Counter immediately, don’t even wait for the attack. But that’s speaking on the topic of burst counter, sorry, people hyping feral just trigger me or something. Quick edit I tested to make sure, phantom also blocks so if you whiff phantom you don’t take damage if it’s a one hit. If it’s a multi hit you’re better off riding it out with waira.
Sounds like I'm completely opposite to you, i just can't get phantom burst counter to work. Not had it work once, even against enenra who's easy to burst count by just ramming it when does the whirl wind.
I’ve been using a splitstaff/Onmyo build that’s worked really well so far. I started doing a Kusarigama/Ninjutsu build but pretty early in I realized I wanted to try something new because I beat the first Nioh with that build. The lightning ⚡️ damage is pretty good so far with that guardian spirit tho
Great video man. I love the switchglaive also, but I am a bit angry with its grapple. For human enemies it works fine, but against a winded revenant it whiffs and the rev gets a free hit or two.
Yea, i usually knock them down for final blow instead. I'm so used to the switch glaive i can't use anything eles. I keep trying to start a tank build but it's just too clunky hehe thanks for joining me buddy hopefully I'll see you around
Yes, it's absolutely infuriating how often it misses, and then the enemy simply recovers. It not only whiffs half the time, the grapple animation seems to actually be much slower than a lot of other weapons, which makes no sense.
Started a few times as I'm a consistent never know what to play person. Would never have thought of the feral to start. Forgot completely about the lightning damage. Also didn't know about how the bazaar resets. Was always struggling to grab early omnyo where as Ninjutsu is easier Thanks for the video
Glad it helped buddy, i would probably be the same if i wasn't always so biased towards using magic (i still keep wanting to try different magic builds but I've got tl hit ng+ 1st). I really want to try the courageous mage with max constitution, courage and magic with switch blade and tonfas
@@JoeHammerGaming I love magic and tried to make it work here. But think kept getting more annoyed that was no easy way to get Omnyo unless lucky water talisman drops or that lock at end of second mission. Where as ninja gets bombs left right and center :P With this info can rush kodamas, head back to start and raise omnyo normally. When you say reset, take it just quit to title and then continue?
@@JoeHammerGaming oh just to say as well, at the start you mentioned you weren't sure if anything goes with magic. Though nothing highest stat, Hatchets have a D in magic scaling and can be altered upto A I believe
@@kojirokeibatsu3943 i exited the mission, then the game. It wasn't always reliable bit worked in the end for the vid. (or maybe ninja stuff is just more common which would be annoying)
@@kojirokeibatsu3943 oh right, I haven't gotten far enough to alter scaling yet. Yea there are 2 'sort of' options which would be hatchets or tonfa. Hatchets have the d scaling in magic, tonfa have a high scaling in courage (which also raises onmyo power just slower) so a tonfa hybrid could out damage pure magic build in theory and both weapons would scale with constitution so there would be you main 3 stats. you'd have high health and stamina regen with mental onmyo power
The dojo missions gave me the impression that jitsu (ninja/onmyo) is meant to be used as a supplement to melee because it doesn't give you enough to kill anything. I kill most humans with onmyo exclusively but shibata katsui is impossible.
Says start with switchglaive and spear or sword. Starts game with kusurigama and heavy axe.🤣 i started with switchglaive and kusurigama. It has that nice middle stance sweep arround you move for when you get too aggressive and find yourself a lil surrounded. 😆
U kiddin right? Magic is range and the yoaki ability is supposed to b for a ranged build ...just sayin i dont think anything is "bad" in this kind of game

Lightning doesnt inflict paralysis, lightning acts like a lesser version of sloth and slows enemy attack speed.
It inflicts shock, sorry if I spoke wrong but it shouldn't be difficult to get what i meant
@Rick Kio creeper much?

Brute=interrupt
Feral= dodge (toward enemy)
Phantom=parry

Rev with switchglaive always whiffs and it's super annoying, so I've learned just to keep smacking it and not execute on them.

@@Neonmirrorblack I agree it is a liability, maybe they'll patch at some point
@@Neonmirrorblack At least you're able to hit human enemies, it would be terrible if you wouldnt he able to

Agreed.. same from Nioh 1
I am using switchglave and sword do I focus magic and heart or magic and constitution

I can be indecisive
This video is the most confusing I have seen on Yourube. So many different topics scattered all over the place.
how do you reset the shop?
And courage it also raises magic power
yes but i don't think putting points in courage early is superior to constitution for people just starting out with the game
Your long pauses in the middle of/in between sentences almost make me uncomfortable. 😂😂
Shame that the guardian spirit that increases magic is not good.
Yea it sucks I really suggest leaving it even if the 200 health sounds good it really won't make as much difference as the 10% run speed

You can burst out of ki depletion
U can also use ur yokai abilites
