Love when recipes on RUclips are short and sweet!! This was perfect
Great question! Evaporated milk is creamier and slightly thicker than regular milk. If you don't have evaporated milk, you can use half and half. Enjoy!
I used to have this recipe and i lost it. I am so happy i found it . Thank you so much for this posting.
This frosting turned out sooo good!
Looks like the frosting my Mom used to make. Thank you for this recipe!
Glad you like it, dorothysue1!
That is looks so good. Thanks for sharing it!
Thank you, ma sha Allah,... looks great
Looks lovely, bet it tastes great too
Cut that big cake in half and put that yummy topping in the middle and top! Wow!
Looks delicious. :)
Thank you for the substitute! I NEVER have evaporated milk, but I keep half and half. Thank you so much!
You should keep a couple cans on hand- I use it in my tea sometimes
Thank you
yummmmmmmm!! so going to try this :D i love how quick and ez everything is on your channel thanks a lot :D
Amiin
It came out great. My husband favorite.
can i use coconut milk?
This is delicious I forgot to put the sugar in it well I thought I have messed up well guessed what it was delicious do not need any sugar use sweet coconut this was delicious
Can I use regular milk instead of the evaporated milk?
I was very skeptical of this recipe. It looked very yellow and in general felt like it wouldn’t work. But!! Trust the process! For me it took a long time for the liquid to get thick, don’t give up and just keep stirring. Eventually it will reach the right consistency. And then once you add the pecans and coconut, it ties everything together.
I will say, this is personal preference, but in hindsight I would suggest to chop the pecans up a bit more. You can buy them pre-chopped, but I still found those to be a bit too large.
A great recipe, 10/10 :)
@@loridennis2989 you must be doing it right then!! XD
Usually takes about 12-15 minutes to thicken on medium heat. The only thing I did different is put the vanilla extract at the end with the pecans and coconut. Unless you using fresh vanilla bean or paste then probably would have cooked it like shown.
@@loridennis2989 haha never had beat eggs whites by hand during pastry class we only had limited about of mixers so sometimes we whisk by hand. At home I smart to get a mixer but if only have one bowl it's good and a hand mixers 😄
What temperature do I cook the mixture at
Wow, that looks great! im going to make a chocolate tart and use this as a frosting
Can I replace the margarine with butter?
Thank you for checking. You can certainly use butter in this recipe. Enjoy!
Do you think this would work substituting allulose for the sugar in same proportions? I've never tried anything with allulose, yet.
@MeThePersonvWeThePrivileged Did you try it?
I made your German chocolate cake and it turned out delicious the only this is my frosting was a little thin, how can I thicken it up?
Slowly increase the heat to medium high. Every two minutes after the first 5 minutes. Stir constantly it will thicken as you raise the heat. Carful not to allow it to get too thick before you add both pecans and coconut flakes. Mine turn out nice. Good luck on your next attempt. Ciao
About how long do you have to stir it? I’m going on 18 minutes now and it’s barely thickening.
Thats what Id like to know!!! I have things to do 😂
I just used cornstarch
AMAZING! xD
Margarine?
Me, too but I think I will have it on a cake. ;-)
Will it come out the same if you use less sugar?
No. Use Allulose.
You should cook and stir for 12 minutes
Why margarine if butter tastes soooo much better??
Can this recipe frost 2 regular cakes?
Wow I never got an answer.
@@gigicordova3640 looks like the recipe needs to be doubled for a layer cake.
It is hot!
Why the water to the egg yolks???
The first time I made this I had trouble with the eggs cooking and making little yellow chunks. Does the water help stop that from happening?
That happened to me as well. 😢
Low heat is really key, and don't preheat the pan. And make sure it's a heavy bottomed sauce pan. Not a thin, lightweight pan.
I made this as a dip and served it with kit-kats.., boy was my family impressed ;)
I would not eat this with a ten foot pole. Because my mom make this cake back in the 1960's. A violently got sick from this cake and threw up. So this left me with bad memories all these years.
Bet she had a bad egg, Salmonella!
My mom by request always made me German chocolate cake for my birthday. I loved it.
Hilarious that you watched a video about a cake that made you sick and then left a comment. LOL.
@@snappysnap955ikr....the irony...😂
Im German and I don't know what this is :D
LOL I'm not surprised you haven't heard of it. Americans invent food sometimes. Like, English Muffins aren't English. Americans invented it.
Liberté a baker named Samuel German invented a kind of dark baking chocolate which was then used in the recipe
Samuel German invented this cake it’s not from Germany😂😂😂😂
Margarine?! Blasphemy! I haven’t touched that for years.
Than touch it now, or just find a substitute
Im definitively confused because I’ve never seen this icing ever even tho I’m German 😂
It’s not actually a German recipe. I only recently learned that it’s called German chocolate cake because the guy who popularized the recipe had the last name German.
EASY PEE-ZY
Why does it look like that
I know. It looks weird. Doesn't look like frosting. It sort of looks like yellow thick oatmeal with nuts in it. Not very appealing really
fahd s it’s actually very good.
@@fahdchoudry7763probably because the ingredients are natural without all the preservatives and other things they put in frosting
margarine? gross.
Hypocroite
You lost me at margarin. Have a nice day.
So use butter.
LOL. Use butter. I would never use margarine for anything. But I can use my brain and know that I can use butter instead.
MARGARINE?
German chocolate cake was invented in Texas! it's not from Germany for all you haters out there!
Right! The guy who invented it, last name was German
The chocolate cake was not invented by the Texan woman, it was the topping. The actual Bakers cocoa that was used to make the cake was made originally back in 1852 by an English-American baker called Samuel German hence the name ‘German’ chocolate cake
hence margerine and canned milk.
@@debrabelz the topping is not the German part it’s the cake
What is funny though, is that Fredericksburg is a German town.😂 So, see, Texas is technically Germanic too😊😊😊 Not arguing, just think it's funny...
All I got was scrambled eggs!
Did you do it on low heat. I think it's really unnecessary to preheat the pan...pour your milk in and all the ingredients into a cold pan and then put it on LOW heat. Also make sure you are using a heavy bottomed sauce pan and not a thin, lighte weight pan that will heat too fast.
This looks like vomit.
You smell like vomit.
ok, don't use margerine! yuck!
What u recommend
Butter
Margarine = Gross!
