Media in general is milking this story for all it’s worth as though it’s a down-to-the-wire rescue mission. In reality, and I want to be proven wrong, this is at best a morbid recovery mission now. There even is the possibility that it is never found entirely.

Update: It was reported on local ABC news at noon that a debris field has been found near the Titanic, still waiting for confirmation if it the debris is from the submersible. If it is, they may have been dead for days. So sad. NO one should have gotten into a sub that is navigated with a game controller.

I am always optimistic, but I hate to admit here, they have still not located the sub, even after they locate it, it take hours to bring them up, its not like just immediately pull them out, the water has extreme pressure they have to very slowly bring it up and that's only after when the sub exact location is detected and a proper recovery system is in place, the chances are slim to none, all we can do now is pray and hope for a miracle

Very irresponsible. If there's any vehicle that should have a position locator besides an airplane it's one of these subs. So many millions of maybe even billions have been spent on this thing. Another ten to fifteen thousand would have been a drop in the bucket compared to all of the other costs.

This is not the 1st time a human has gone down with the ship. There’s been plenty of other instances of men / women who lost their lives to the depths of the ocean. War submarines have been lost at sea holding hundreds of people. Sailors on navy / fishing / recreational vessels have perished to the depths of the sea. People have fallen or been tossed off all sorts of boats all throughout history. Planes have crashed into all sorts of water. Cars go off roads & bridges with people stuck inside. This is not uncommon or unusual. Five more souls lost to the sea.

It may be common but if there's even a glimmer of hope, it's human nature for people to try to save others! In poorer countries their coast guard may not be able to conduct a large scale rescue effort. But they usually do the best they can. That's all anyone can ask.

It's heartbreaking to me bc if I was in their place, in my heart I would know there wouldn't be any rescue. It's black dark, freezing cold, and you are literally at deaths door. I would be terrified and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Suddenly, not a thing would matter anymore other than just getting back to the top. But it isn't going to happen and as your time ticks away, all you will ever have left in your life, is your thoughts. Horrifying.

I hope the occupants of the Titan are found alive, although the situation is looking very grim and tragic at this point. I am sympathetic to the fear they and their families are no doubt experiencing. I can’t imagine how scared they are, if they are still alive. I hope everything turns out for the best.
That being said, I hope this incident shows the world that “touring” the Titanic is not only extremely dangerous for the living, but also disrespectful to the dead. The ship is already on the brink of disintegration due to rusticles forming and feeding on the iron. Every time someone visits the wreckage, they disturb these rusticles, causing them to disintegrate and take pieces of the ship with it. The Titanic will be nothing but a rust stain in approximately 100 years. Less than that if we keep visiting her. It’s important to remember that this is a gravesite. It’s also important to remember that to properly honor the tragedy, memorialize it, and respect it, we MUST leave Titanic alone. It’s not the same as visiting a museum or graveyard on land. In this particular case, human involvement causes damage as opposed to provides preservation and protection. There is a line between education and exploitation of a tragedy. Dark tourism such as this, crosses that line.
Thanks to previous dives, we already have in-depth scans of the wreckage. We have made many scientific discoveries, including the discovery of rusticles. Before Robert Ballard’s dives, we didn’t even know if the ship had split in two or not. These are all very positive things. However, thanks to these dives we also now know that she is degrading, and every visit we make to her, we cause this process to increase in speed rapidly. The time for all dives to Titanic, scientific or otherwise, now do not serve much of a purpose. They now do more harm than good.
The Titan has very sadly proven that no regulations are in place for expeditions such as this. These civilians are most likely unaware of the damage these dives cause to the wreckage. These civilians are also not completely aware of how truly dangerous a situation they are in (due to the fragility of the wreckage easily allowing the possibility of the submersibles being stuck, collapsed upon, punctured, etc). Dives such as this are very irresponsible. Regardless of any waivers being signed, they cannot know with 100% certainty what they are getting themselves into. So many more will suffer if dives like this become a regular “tourist attraction.” Please let the Titanic rest in peace. Please help prevent further misinformation and the endangerment of civilians who do not know any better.

My father took me to a breakfast, where they were honoring Robert Ballard’s research on the ship. I was 10 or 11 and I shook his hand, and got an autograph. This was way before the film and all the hype came out. I am appalled that these billionaires are desecrating a mass grave site. There are reports that the sub might have gotten entangled with debris. How f’ing dare them to get that close to the ship. No respect what so ever.
