+Elina Martin: Your comment is idiotic...she is an excellent teacher! I have been living in Thailand for 11 years and even her English is easier to understand than many Brits, Irishmen, and Australians. My Thai friends also compliment her. Like my parents always taught us; "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all."
I'm native and I've never realized how complicated telling time is until I came across this VDO 55555. Kru Mod is really talented, I love the way you teach :)

I've read several books and lessons on telling time in Thai and never quite got it so I always just used Moong for everything. This lesson was very clear and understandable so now I think I'll be able to say the time correctly, thank you for the help.
Awesome information! The part about a gong for day, drums for evening and bells for night helped me immediately remember which is which. This is great teaching!
Thank you very much for this telling time video. With this lesson , I can tell the time very well..I told my student that I have a party at 7 moong yen, she laughed until she almost collapsed, so I came back home to verify about telling time in Thai, and fortunately for me your lesson has make me to understand that it is 1 tum, not 7 moong yen.You are a gifted language teacher. Keep up!
hiive been learning Thai from many different courses but found your lessons much more informative than most of the other as you explain the background and reasoning behind a subject, definitely going to stick with your lessons. Many thanks
Wow, you make this so easy. I have tried many different classes and online downloads but you make it clear and simple I also like that even when you make a slight mistake when explaining you leave it in your video to relax pupils. I will definitely be using more of your tutorials Thank you

Hi Mod! If I say 6:15am or 6:15pm and drop the chaao and yen, how can the person know what time I'm talking about? ~ hok moong(chaao) sip ha naa-tii vs hok moong(yen) sip ha naa-tii
Normally if you say "hok moong sib ha na tii" they will think it's 6:15am or it depends on situation (such as you ask someone for dinner they will know it's the evening not the morning) but if you need to make sure the right time you can add "Ton yen(ตอนเย็น)" for pm "Ton chaao(ตอนเช้า)" for am Such as 6:15pm = "hok moong sib ha ton yen" , 5:30pm = "ha moong krueng ton yen" (P.S. Sorry for my bad English I hop you can understand it)
Hello Kru Mod , Thanks for your video really helpful., i has been learn how to speak thai about one year ago but am still not understand but after am watch your video it's very clear and very good .
Dee mahk !! Excellent lesson. I am studying 'Thai language' at the moment in Hua Hin, and learning to 'tell the time' is coming up as a lesson next month. This video lesson has been very helpful. I will come back tomorrow afternoon and practice this lesson again, and I am sure it will stick in the memory for good. Khawp khun krup...chok-dii !!
Hi, I have a question. if you use krueng to describe 30minutes past the hour, how do you say 6.30am vs 6.30pm in thai? Wouldn’t both be hok mong krueng? Thanks
Hey, i know one of your friends! her name is Gift supanan (i think!) i like your videos. it reminds me of my time in Bkk and going to koh san road with Gift
Hi Mod, in your 3 sections of time during the day, ther seems to be time(s) missing. Morning is 6am to 11am, but what is 11am to 11:59 am? is it still morning? After midday (Tian) what is 12:01 to 12:59pm called? does it flow into 1pm as 'afternoon'? What about the gap between 3pm to 4pm, is it afternoon or evening ???
How do you say the minutes? What’s the correct way? No wonder why I never knew how to speak about time, it’s kind of more complicated than I thought lol. I know most general conversation but time is hard for me.
in the airplane when you land somewhere and they tell the time they always say let's say 12:20 ( sip swaang naligaa yii sip natii ) but you don't use this way of telling time in common spoken thai ?
Thank you for your kind comment. We have made lessons on long vowels and short vowels already, please follow the link below: learnthaiwithmod.com/2016/05/video-thai-short-vowels/

Thanks for the lesson
Thanks for lesson, it is nice
your way of teaching is really very good.
and you are so beautiful (Sue Maak khrap)
excellent!
I think batter you must insert a real Thai conversation on the middle or at the last of the lesson, It's could be 15sc to 30sc.
thaks your video it's clear kop kun ka
Is 12.30am "tiang kuen krueng"?
Normally, Thais would also say Tiang kuen samsib natee
kob khun mak krap~~謝謝你^^
What if i want to tell 12:15PM?
Do i say Tiang Sip Ha Naa Tii?
you better show your watch ⌚ instead of saying that
+Austin Lai yes it's correct ^_^
+Austin Lai You can also shorten it by saying "Tiang Sip Ha"
But Mod......how do I get my teerak to show up on time for our date, and not an hour late? 😂
ว้าว เพิ่งรู้นะคะเนี่ยว่าคำว่าทุ่มมาจากไหน ละก็อยากจะบอกว่าคุณครูน่ารักมากจ้า :D
3:30pm is bai or yen?
+Chung Ray it is Bai Sam Krung.
support support, really useful
kop kun maak ka. :)
Is there a particular reason why the "r" sound is frequently dropped in spoken Thai? Like in the video "krueng"
It is lazy pronunciation for the most part. Either it is dropped altogether or replaced with the "l" sound. Hope my Comment helps.
Thai people also struggle to pronounce the letter R, Mai pen lai... had a friend called rob, they use to call him Mr Lob.😂,
How to differentiate 6:30am and 6:30pm?
in the airplane when you land somewhere and they tell the time they always say let's say 12:20 ( sip swaang naligaa yii sip natii ) but you don't use this way of telling time in common spoken thai ?
yes i think that is used like the 24 hour clock, such as the military way of telling time,
It sounds way too formal for everyday spoken Thai.
Nice video
You look gorgeous. Can you make, please, a video about long and short Thai vowels?
Thank you for your kind comment.
