    Thank you. My pup is getting prepared for her first "professional" grooming and this is very enlightening.

    I'm working with my puppy to accept brushing, messing between toes, holding the muzzle/chin hair, and messing with ears, cleaning eyes & teeth. Owners can do that to get the dog used to it. Also use a baby brush bc that feels good on their skin and then the slicker brush. The slicker brush sometimes tickles or catches in a knot and might feel weird. But that way they get used to being handled. I trimmed my dogs butt and she got a treat when done. Now it's a pos experience. Cant expect the dog to just get handled at groomers. It should start at home. Makes it easier for puppy and groomer

    Man I needed this about 1+1/2 years ago !!! ... it’ll be nice to see how he progresses .. I still have issues with the nails on my young dog so that’s what I’ll be looking for

      Take out treats and set on table. Make sure dog knows they are there. Trim 1 paw. Give treat. If dog squirms, give treat after each toe. I had to do that with my Italian greyhound. Now she let's me do each paw. Then treat. Much better now. Before it was horrible. After treats mich better

    Thank you! Very helpful. We're in the process of getting our cavapoo used to the experience of baths, brushing, low blow/heat hairdryer, being handled all over. She'll need regular grooming when she's a little older. Mainly hairy paws and trimming/filing claws.

    Thanks for the info! Today we tried that method with our 1st dog ever in oir family!! A Female Toy poodle named Shiloh! After rubbing her with the clippers for 5 mins she got well adjusted! No trying to bite them or wiggle out of our hands! She's still a little standoff-ish with using them, but its a great start! Need some info on how to get her used to bathing..

    New to your channel and having a poodle mix pup. She is 12 weeks and extremely bitey. She bites for brushing, for petting, when playing. I want to introduce clippers to her but with her being so bitey not sure what to do. Any suggestions? I’ve never had a puppy that bites and nips so much.

    What if the puppy is already with a lot of matted hair on his first grooming session? :( BTW this is the best grooming channel I've found so far. I've been learning a lot, THANK YOU 👍🐾

    • @GroomingByRudy
      @GroomingByRudy  5 лет назад

      Ana Santos..This can be a huge challenge ,being that the puppy is not used to getting groomed,and would have to tolerate a lot of clipper work to remove the matting.It is very important,to keep the puppy mat free,and brushed out.so that the groomer can introduce the grooming process slowly..With that being said,if there is an experienced groomer in your area,that you trust,they may be able to achieve a shave down,or a dematting.on his first grooming.Than you can start fresh,and keep the puppy brushed out ..Thank you so much for your kind comment,and for watching us..Let us know how you make out with your puppy..

      @@GroomingByRudy hey Rudy! I AM the groomer!!! 😋 The thing is I had a puppy to be done sometime ago and I did the job. I shaved him all around because he was full of matts that couldn't be brushed (without hurting him I mean), so I advised the owner to shave and she agreed. It took me 4hours and the help of an assistant ofc... The puppy wasn't still for a second obviously but I didn't hurt him once and he got out shaved and bathed. I just hope I haven't traumatized him!!! He looked happy at the end, but I'm afraid he might et scared on the 2nd grooming session... I felt so bad after watching your advice!

    • @GroomingByRudy
      @GroomingByRudy  5 лет назад

      Ana Santos..I am so sorry,i didn't realize you were the groomer..It sounds to me,that you did a great job,and did what was best for the puppy..If the dog was matted when it came to you,that is 100% on the owner..You should be commended,for taking the job on,and compensated for your 4 hrs,of work,and professionalism ,by not hurting,or nicking the pup..If the dog seemed ok when it left your shop,then chances are he was not overly traumatized..I would explain to the owner,that if the dog comes in in matted condition,that you might not want to take on the high risk grooming again,and also they would need to sign a waiver ..Please keep in touch,and if you have any other questions,or concerns let us know...Your a great groomer!!!

      @@GroomingByRudy omg thank you, it is a HUGE relief to hear this from you and a huge JOY to know I did the right thing! Because I am not that experienced (although super careful and perfeccionist with my pet clients), I don't have the guts to refuse work. I work at several clinics, don't have a personal shop (yet😉), so I will always have to talk to the clinic owner/vet so that clients sign something, that is a great idea. Thanks again SO MUCH for replying to me, assure me I did good and for the great videos! I sure will keep watching them and keep in touch!! 👍🐾😀
