    More people should groom their own dogs! And I’m a groomer! I personally think most groomers are mean!!! I have been grooming since I was 19..I’m about to turn 50! And have been doing this a long time and have seen what goes on behind closed doors! And they torture your dogs and then you pay them for it 😡 I have a shop were I do it I’m front of a window, and I’m the only groomer here I have 2 assistants who wash and dry for me. But it’s much kinder for you yourself!!! To groom your dog! Don’t let anyone but you!

      I agree! My first pet, a Mini Schnauzer, surely went through unspeakable torture when his (too long) nails would be clipped down. I know now how much pain he was subjected to. 😔 I now groom my own dogs and have for the last 40 years ever since a breeder told me that the *best* thing she could recommend was to groom my own dog. After all, as I learned, if I did a bad job, my dog never knew and the hair grew neck so I could give it another go! I have on my family now 3 poodles, a Giant Schnauzer, a mini Sheepadoodle and an Airedale. I also do once a year cuts for my neighbors' Australian Shepherds (we are in Texas, folks - it's HOT and with inside doggies using the AC while folks are at work, well, they need haircuts!!!). And if my neighbors' dogs' nails are long, I snip them a little and give instructions for tiny snipping on a weekly basis so those poor animals don't suffer. 🐾

      As I’ve been watching lots of videos to learn to cut my new poodle’s hair, I can’t believe how many rude groomers there are even on RUclips! I have a couple that I really like, and I guess I had thought they would all be like that. But I watched one that spent the whole video manhandling and berating this poor dog who was honestly standing there really calmly, and in between yelling at the dog, she was complaining that there were any tangles at all in this dog’s coat (and it didn’t seem like many). Why are you a groomer if that offends you so bad?? I’m horrified!

      I’m trying to get into it. I have an Aussie Doodle and and it takes so long. I ordered clippers, guards, I brush his teeth and trim his sanitary. I want to start doing his nails and full trimming and scissoring. I go to pet smart and feel they are not the best but okay. They don’t really know how to doodle groom. They told me they couldn’t round his face😐. It went to $60-90 in a year.

    As a beginner dog groomer I always say “I’m not going to charge people $80 for me to bath their dogs in a cute smock and say I’m a pro, it’s not right.” This is stuff ANYONE can do at home and get better over time, it’s a wonderful skill to acquire 🐶🐾☺️

    I inherited an Aussie doodle when my FIL passed away in December 2023. I've never been a pet parent of a pet that needed to be groomed (other than bathing and brushing and nail trim). The first time I took him to a groomer I really didn't know what to ask for (as far as cuts). I told the groomer I wanted an overall trim and the hair cut out of his eyes. The groomer suggested a "winter cut". That sounded good to me (being a newbie and knowing nothing, I trusted the groomer) so I said o.k. When I walked in to pick him up I was SHOCKED! He hardly had any hair left at all. I'd call what the groomer did a summer cut and it was the middle of January. My poor little boy had to wear his sweater constantly for a month. I recently received everything my FIL had for my little guy and I discovered he had a grooming kit so I've now entered the University of RUclips to learn how to groom my sweet little doodle myself. Your video was perfect. I learned so much. I've been petrified to clip his nails for fear of hurting him. The tip about the black dot - perfect. I now have the confidence to give it a try. Thanks!

    Professional Groomer here! You're doing great! I love this informative video and how you covered all the bases fully.
    Thought I'd add some tips:
    - 5/8" comb (0), also comes in a blade. With wavy doodle hair like that, the 5/8 blade could make the hair look much more uniform!
    - You dont have to take any hair off before bathing, unless the dog is super hairy. Typically with a well-maintained coat, we bathe and blowdry, and then do all grooming afterward
    - Brushing! It sounds crazy, but brushing out a dog fully before using a guard comb will actually make the coat fluffier, and in turn have a better result after the shave.
    - As far as faces go, its the biggest learning curve. But! "ZoomGroom_Anna" on youtube has PHENOMENAL doodle head instruction!

    We have a Labradoodle named Lykke and she is nine months now. We have never groomed her before. And I think it´s really funny, I´m going to do it myself. I have watched a lot of videos to lern. I must say that I think you are so careful and treat the dog so cautious. In some videos I have seen I think they are kind of rough to the dogs. Keep up what doing.

    A couple tips from my perspective... Brushing and combing is really important during their haircuts! Combing out the face and legs in-between scissoring will help create a softer look and prevent "rough" cuts if that makes sense. Also make sure the coats are BONE dry when cutting, especially with the guard combs! Wet hair cuts differently than dry hair!

    • @dottyk1637
      @dottyk1637 2 месяца назад

      Shih tzu are notorious for being head shy for anything around their faces. Try hand scissoring instead, yes, scary but our dog might tolerate it better. Wishing you good luck, and keep their eye area clean, daily.

    I've seen so many strange doodle mixes, truly a mess. One person has a german shepherd x poodle puppy, wife 'researched the breed', husband was hoping the hair would go curly, I looked at it and said it's not going to happen, poor dog, stupid parents!

    I have a 7 months old goldendoodle, how do i keep him calm under grooming?

    • @alliehoth
      @alliehoth  Год назад +3

      Practice practice practice! We start getting our puppies used to grooming starting from 3 days old with our curriculum. This prepared them for a life full of grooming and when you prepare them right, it makes grooming easier. The more you brush, comb, clip, and groom your dog the more used to it they get and they learn it’s okay, but keep in mind you don’t ever want to overwhelm the dog or puppy. With my puppies I also always have treats when starting full grooms. Whenever they react well to the clippers and grooming I reward them with lots of love and a treat. This gives them a positive association with grooming.

    Really why the fancy name doodles? Regular Americans call them dogs.😊 Some people do not need papers to make their best special.😅

    The paw pads first, really? Do you live in a city and have totally indoor dogs or something? Do your dogs ever have FUN or run around a park or anything like real dirt? My dogs paws are so dirty that shaving feet is almost a separate operation as I usually walk the dogs to dry them in summer, so paws are dirty and filled with grit and will ruin my clipper blades.

      @@marietteblaides5461 I agree wash the dog first. I think I remember her point was paw pads take the longest to dry, that's why she clips them out first while dry, but the dirt is horrendous in paw pads and will dull your clippers quickly. I have clipped out a dirty matted paw pad first though, clippers be damned, just because the mat was bad and needed to come out. So I can kind of see her point. I only got through most of two paws, amatuer that I am. And, I did need to thoroughly clean my blade directly afterwards as it wasn't usuable for anything else after all that paw dirt, so count on that happening. Actually paws are such a big issue, and not having a good pro bath setup, as a home groomer I would almost like to wash just the paws in a tub, dry up and clip on a different day than the rest of the body. Or you at least need at least one spare blade set just for the paws.

      @@OWK000A certified groomer I know bathes her dogs and, then while clipping their nails she directs the dryer to each of the feet, works great. She also towel dries the feet first and has them on towels to soak up all the extra water.

    After years of taking my doodle to a groomer I’ve decided to do it myself. This was very helpful 🐕‍🦺
