Averaged out over 30 mins, he scores 7 pts, grabs almost 11 rebs a game and gets 1.5 blocks a game, not so different from Mitch or ihart (and this on a lot fewer mins and the randomness of not knowing when the hell you are going to play or with whom: basically got his 'chance' with the entire frontline decimated and the early horror of the Burks-Bogs trade and even then with very limited time due to the emergence of ihart and the arrival of Precious!). I agree with you that he's got it in him to become a solid double-double 2 blocks a game reserve. He excelled in college (with more O than he's been allowed to display on the Knicks, Thibs having him on too tight a leash!), the Summer League and the G league and if he gets to play with Kolek who (unlike JB) WILL find him, this could be his breakout season. He led the team in shooting efficacy at 69% (I know I know...), improved his FT to 66% (hovered around 75% most of the year), protected the rim at 56% (ihart was better at 53% but Mitch was worse at 61%), showed off what some consider the BEST perimeter defense of any 5 in the league (his defense on guards at the arc can be breathtaking at times for people who understand basketball bc of the extraordinary agility he's capable of at that size, his ability to cover ground on the court for a center almost unheard of, really!) and was the starting 5 through at least some of that memorable 14-2 run in January; in fact, I knew we had arrived when Sims and the Knicks dominated Joker and the Nuggets in a game at MSG! In the end, we'd better be positive and encouraging this young man bc a lot of the criticism I see is unfair, excessive and unwarranted (not to mention stupidly cruel, a nasty trait in this fan base echoing the hate we've seen directed at Thibs, Julius, Deuce and Mitch before and even now) and we are definitely going to need him (perhaps very much) this year, either as a starter or a backup, 2nd and yes (on this team) third, too! ruclips.net/video/8pGZ0a-XdGw/видео.html
I Hart's performance last season and the amount of money he got paid this offseason should serve as a good example for Sims to pick up his preparation and play this season.
@@DragonsFrogs- Ihart is been on a couple teams an a lot more playing time, hence more skill. Sims is more agile, speed and vertical but he lacks confidence.
@@DragonsFrogs Neither did ihart show so much skill (and sorry, much as I like him, he's no $90 million man, that's NYC hype), either, until the second half of last season. Dude is now on his SIXTH team. Solid reserve (he will be a bkup in OKC, too) but people have hyped him beyond sense: 8 pts and 8 rebs a game (and even two unforgettable playoff games) are replaceable. His tenacity will be missed, he's bigger than Sims and his ability to get off that floater and an occasional assist were nice, but he was MANHANDLED by an Embiid on ONE LEG and a NERVE DISORDER (Thibs should have inserted Sims to make Joel jump on that bad knee!) while IND destroyed him at the rim, in the paint and at the arc, ihart just not athletic enough to keep up with IND's frontline (while Thibs refused to play the Knick with the third greatest score on the athleticism test in NBA history (and even the insertion of a 6'9" center in Diakite who won a ring in SA would have been better than an undersized deuce, an injured (and AWFUL) jhart and maybe even an ineffective ihart(0 points in G7!) after IND blew us out THREE times by 30 points!). Regardless, the problem is NOT Sims (who is, after all, a backup and as a 3rd stringer 5, the best in the league at that role, so why not the second unit now?) but Mitch's durability. ihart was here last year in his place (Mitch's AND Sims') and certainly no savior in the playoffs, the predictable fate of almost any backup pushed into a starting role in an NBA playoff. It's Mitch AND Thibs who must "evolve" to avoid season-ending injury/ies again.
This is a great video. I don’t understand why more fans don’t want to give Jericho a shot at the rotation. Give him more consistent minutes like Deuce last year and see what happens.
Consider he spent half of his second year with a torn shoulder, surgery when they got to the playoffs. Last year, he sprained his ankle right after Mitch went down. Precious got the minutes.
Your analysis sounds like it's spot on. I am hoping someone is work with Simms on defense this off season -che is OVERDUE to produce. let's hope. Great vid.
Sims is the man!!! Frankenstein went to OKC he was the beast the Knicks needed to keep also.. Sims can rise to be a star ⭐✨ he is a beast 💪 still young seems smart enough not to get hurt 🤕 duly noted, no injuries Knicks ...
@@YankeesFan1335 Im fine with seeing how the team looks instead of forcing a questionable trade now. We have a lot to work with, and if Jericho or Hukporti or whoever already here can really make it happen with a bigger role that'd be great. But Sims is 25 and hasn't shown levels of progress that indicate he will be able to be that guy. I think it will be end up still being seen as a hole to fill by deadline.
They need to get one of the best free agents left, like Omer Yurtseven, for the vet min, and bring back Precious back (I also want Davis Bertans for the min as well). Keep Sims on third string, and if he doesn't improve on D this year, trade him..
That's why they hired Mark Bryant. Thibs has his hands full right now probably writing a new playbook so Bryant can help with Jericho Simms. If they don't sign another big then we go with what we got and Simms needs to be ready. This is an excellent idea along with the work Simms has already been doing with Mike Bibby he should be ready to contribute. There's no one else for now so I'm optimistic he can help. Now that there's nothing in his way he'll have to be given a chance. Maybe he'll make the most of it. We should have faith in the coaching staff. I believe they can get him ready and the team can hide his flaws. It is what it is.
He does need to improve his defense. Precious Achiuwa played great defense when his number was called. Sims would do well if he took some pointers from him.
Sims has athletism, thats it. Defensive IQ below avg, offensive game below evg unless he is dunking. Freethrow shooting below avg. He can dominate on the boards defensively and offensively with a little more work and heart. Not enough developement in 3 seasons. Whatever playing time he gets he has to show way more improvement this coming season. Right now not too high on him.
At least someone is grounded in the real world. We can't be relying on Sims and the undersized Achiuwa for 50 games next season when Mitch inevitably breaks down. This is the difference between challenging and another 1st or 2nd round exit.
Mark Bryant u have been brought to the knicks to work with Simms this is his 4yr in the league if tibbs plays him and give him more minutes he can be better but tibbs have to see what he as developed this summer
I love my Knicks but J. S. is a undersized center with barely no offensive game. Also not that great as a defender. I dont think he averaged 1 block shot per game. Sims simply doesnt have the IQ to stay on the court. He wa barely even playable last season. Physical gifts or not he just doesnt have good positioning, and just doesnt seem to be in the right place at the right time, cant pass. Basically a walmart verson of mitch
He's a G-League player who has shown nothing in the nba. He can jump but not rebound. Can't shoot. Defense eh. I can't believe this video. Wishful thinking. Waste of time. The Knicks want to trade him. Only play him in an emergency.
