I have a 2003 Sportster S. These are amazing bikes. Mine has the Screaming Eagle pipes and air cleaner but all else is stock. You don't need much else. It came with higher flowing 2-plug heads, performance ignition, lighter flywheel, adjustable suspension at both ends, twin disc front brakes, and probably more that I am forgetting. In my opinion one of the best looking years for Sportsters. These are an absolute blast to ride and are about as reliable and durable as a motorcycle can be.
Ridden and chopped them for decades... Have been watching (thank you, son-in-law), his neighbor's wife's '99 1200 sporty for a few months, and thanks to our Covid check, bought her 1200 for exactly $1,000 bucks, just yesterday! Garaged forever, ridden sweetly, and to my surprise, had freakingThunder headers on it! Spinal cord injury made this one insane day for me, but I can finally ride a decent bike once again, and it''s a damned Harley! ♥
I bought one in South Korea when I was there in 98. Mine was all black. No chrome at all. Im not a big HD fan but I will always miss that bike. Fast, fun and simple, the way a motorcycle should be.
Definitely a gorgeous Sportster 1200. The brakes, as you say are amazing, where you demoed them perfectly. I especially enjoyed when you took a cruise around your beautiful town. Love the orange leaves on the trees. We don't have true seasons in Louisiana. Also love the hills and woods all over your beautiful town. I can't wait to eventually fly up there, and come ride with y'all on the compound.
I have a 2000 XL1200S with screaming eagle upgrades. Best cafe racer ever made. I have to admit, I've never opened it up all the way. 100 MPH is my personal limit.
have the yellow chrome and black one, same year , i did 120 ! my friends were shocked that a harley sportster could do it, it goes to 115 really fast , great bike , cheers !

It's sad to see them mollested and modded in gross ways. I dont know why people put burly brand slamme shocks on instead of leaving the stock piggy backs, or upgrading to another performance shock instead of taking handling away. I also see guys put hyperchargers and shitty exhausts on that destroy the performance. I even seen a guy put fucking 8 inch over tubes on the front to make it a "chopper". I know it isn't my bike but jesus christ it kills me to see it lol
Went looking for another buell, came across a "1200 sportster". Po said it had dual disk up front, asked for pictures and sure enough it was a xl1200s Being sold as just a sportster
seems like it needs to have the idle tuned in. Either the idle screw is set too tight or the throttle cable is too tight. Should be idling at 1000 rpm, not 1400

I have a ‘98 1200s, I absolutely love it. I’m putting on a hypercharger whenever my Cobra El Diablos come in. She’s gonna be super fast!
