    Great idea. I buy the lace at the fabric store. I also buy some trim, cut the lace in a triangle (sort of), and hand-stitch the trim. I've made three and going on my 4th. I did make a mistake with one because the lace was too stiff, so buy lace that is free-flowing for sure. It's nice to say a prayer while hand-stitching as well. If you can. Remember, tradition tells us that Our Lady was a seamstress. Blessings.

      Thank you for your lovely comment! I have since also made a two mantillas from new lace fabric, one trimmed and one untrimmed. You're right - the flowiness is very important. I still need to add a little comb to mine, as they're very slippery! I didn't know about this tradition about Mary, though I did see pictures where she's sewing. It would make sense though, considering the patience needed for sewing!
