Another great presentation of another awesome piece of history. I look at this as art. And the story of it's life is interesting. I'm glad it has a worthy owner now. Mike G My thoughts exactly. Back in the 80's I bought a 69 Camaro SS 350, 4 sp, deluxe interior car for $2300. It was jacked up in the rear and had a set of cragar ss rims on it ( so popular then!) , but otherwise was completely original. The most regrettable one I had though had to be a 67 buick skylark GS 400. Bought it from a couple who gave it to their son for his 18th birthday. He had wrapped the drivers rear quarter around an electric pole near their house TWICE in two weeks since getting it. I responded to an ad in the paper asking $400 for it. I was sure it was a typo. It wasn't as they just wanted to be rid of it quickly to be sure the kid didn't kill himself first. I bought it for $400 cash in the spot. Had it repaired with a quarter panel from a scrapyard. The car was all original with about 65k miles and even had the original window sticker in the glove box. A few yrs later I sold it for a good profit for $3500 but I sure wish now I hadn't!
That's a beauty! Thanks for sharing it. I always enjoy seeing '69 Camaro cowl tag and VIN information, as well as original documents. I have been studying these cars for decades and seeing a good one never gets old. By the way, the earliest known (so far) 1969 Z/28 with a cowl induction set-up from the Van Nuys plant was a 12C car (December, third week, 1968). The Camaro Research Group website made mention of the car in one of their articles a while back. They said the car has been documented. So, it is actually possible that the car in your video could have had the cowl induction set-up from the factory especially if it was special ordered.
I think that you are right. The story sounds Kind of this car is a 1969. And it was Confiscated 2 years later. And set for 13 13 years in a government warehouse. Why Would it have had to be paint it When the car was only 2 years old when it was seized yeah. There's some Bullsht Going on with the story
@@dennisowen4410 thanks for the reply, 3 years since I left that comment. You are lucky to have seen those days in my opinion, my dad would always talk about the 60s, 70s and 80s. He passed 7 months ago unfortunately. Miss him. Every time I smell a carbureted car I think of him. About 7 years ago he started to talk about his muscle car days which I didn't know about (I was 22 at that time), and it really sparked my interest and I wanted a muscle car. I determined that the only way I could experince the muscle car feel, on my budget, was an s10 with a small block. He helped me build a 383/th350 s10. When it started up, he said its been a long time since I smelled that. Thanks again for the reply.
I had a family member that painted Camaros from 1967 until 1976 he told me that there was a shortage of spoilers in 69 and 70 NOT THE 70 1/2 but the 70 with the 69 body continuation. Anyway there was a strike that delayed the launch of the entire 1970 gm car lines. So to get back to the point when they painted cars without the spoiler they painted stripes all the way to the edge of the trunk lid and when they painted cars with the spoiler at the same time they used a jig that covered about the last three inches of the trunk lid.
excelerater..Right on bro..Although it helps a lot to keep these cars alive. They are a commodity now and they are out of reach pricewise. normal working people cant touch em. A double-edge-sword type thing
The rear spoiler is dealer installed. That's the only explenation and a lot of them were put on. It's been stated that the option was so popular that many dealers would put spoilers on a select few as they came off the truck before they were even seen by potential customers.
What a cool story and color of the car. I just watched your red one video but this one takes the trophy for the best story. The old saying goes be smart don't use drugs but the smart one did choose the right car LOL. I'm just glad it didn't get totaled at a high speed chase. Thumbs up on this video also.
Aaron Cole I OWNED A 1968 CAMARO FOR 42 YEARS THAT WAS RALLYE GREEN AND I BELIEVE THERE WERE NOT VERY MANY 68’S THAT COLOR GREEN. WHEN I INSTALLED A 69 COWL INDUCTION HOOD THAT WAS OFF OF A WHITE 69 CAMARO THE PAINT STORE SAID THAT RALLYE GREEN WAS NOT LISTED IN THE CHIP BOOK FOR 1968 BUT IT WAS LISTED ON THE 1969 PAINT PAGE. IN 1984 I DID A TOTAL FRAME OFF RESTORATION AND CHANGED THE COLOR TO LEMANS BLUE WHICH I LATER REGRETTED.
An absolute beauty of a vehicle!..Whoever did the paint job did a very clean and shiny finish..I know I'm a Body tech /Painter..32 years under the belt...
Pretty cool but pretty sad too. Why not drive it and enjoy the hell out of it? It's not getting much love sitting in up a garage for all of its life...rotting away.
@@stevenm2983 Okay....this begs a few questions: What happened? What happened to you and since? Were there any passengers? What was the original cost of the car and was there a bank note on it when your arrested? Lastly, besides being sick of losing this beauty, and possible time served has anyone reached out to you about your story? Thanks 😊
This is one stunning example of a legendary muscle car, to be sure. We were tearing around in a Dark green '69 RS/SS Z-28 in 1972 with my friend Mike S. whom just came home from Vietnam with a pocket full of cash. He got into a lot of trouble with that car, and I can tell you.....that car was incredibly fast ! My Mom hated that he left rubber all the way down the street when I got dropped off.
Easy way to tell if a Super Scoop hood was factory installed? There should be a flapper door at the back end that is solenoid and throttle controlled opening. Also there should be hood insulation.
Imagine the stories that car could tell.... lol... I'm sure she's been rung out quite a few times.... she got a well deserved retirement!!!... beautiful car!!!
Cool. If it was in storage then why repaint it? I hope the car was ordered without a rear spoiler and was dealer installed, otherwise the rear stripe should not have been painted at the bottom of the trunk lid if it was ordered from the factory.
I tend to believe the spoilers were added later in life on this car. If factory installed, and this early of a build, it would have the shorter 68 spoiler on the rear. Also I don't see the support bars at the corners of the front spoiler. Just clues I see. I'd like to see the torsion rods in the trunk to confirm. Since it appears to me the spoilers were added, it would explain why the rear stripes are incorrect and running completely under the spoiler to the edge of the deck lid. Dealer installed spoilers would have stripes to the edge of the deck lid, but doesn't explain why it has a 69 spoiler that came later in production. Based on the 01B production, the car is late enough to receive the optional ZL2 hood, since the hood was introduced last week of Dec 68. Earliest known Van Nuys build with ZL2 is a 513xxx vin. I'd guess this cars vin to be in the 516xxx range based on the trim tag date. Would need to see other clues. I do see the original white stripe paint coming out from the cowl panel which is correct and nice to see. Amazes me these cool finds are still popping up. Thanks for posting Patrick.
Yep. It would have been nice he would have popped the deck lid and took a look at the mounting tabs and the deck lid spring. As you said, it clearly isn't the date correct spoiler and that is likely the reason for the paint extending to the edge. Also he should have looked at the center of the spoiler to see if the middle brace was there or if the hole was in the correct spot for a factory front spoiler.
So many people trying to discredit the miles or the story. I've watched several of his videos and actually rather enjoy them. In every video, if he's unsure about something, he goes out of his way to point it out. Plus he KNOWS his stuff. So I believe the whole story.
alaskanasassin1 thank you sir. Opinions are definitely what we look for here so I appreciate each and every comment. These aren’t for sale videos so I do my best to relay the info from the owner and describe these cars exactly as I see fit. If I don’t believe something or think it’s false I usually state that. Thanks again for watching and your kind words.
I remember my '89 T/A 350 T.P.A that I bought for $2100 in '95 with the hypertech performance chip in it and duel exhaust and posy traction and it was quick. When the speedometer said 125 it kept idling past that so I've always had a knack for muscle cars and classics
There are all kinds of creatures that can shit on a vehicle in storage over years. Bats, mice, roaches, spiders, etc. In 1984 it saw the sun, probably oxidized from 1984 to 1996. I believe this story.
If it had been parked outside during storage, the interior would have been fried. It had to be stored inside or the whole car has been redone. It can't be both.
Its not been driven since 71! The engine more than likely is full of oil! That's what you do to a car thats never driven you fill the engine with oil till it overflows out the top of the engine!! Then you can let it sit as long as you want then when you want to run it again you drain the whole engine and fill it correctly its ready to go! Also jack the car just of the ground so suspension is good also!!!
Please excuse my mistake on the diverter valve. It is a 295 instead of 297. 295 is small block and 297 is big block. I do 10 big block documentaries to 1 small block and misspoke.
joe v Super Scoop hood was an option in 69 not available in 67 or 68. For 67,68 and 69 there was an optional cold air cleaner that drew air from the passenger cowl, all under the stock hood.
This brings back good memories for me. I had a '69 RS/SS 302 Camero just like this one but mine was Daytona Blue with a black vinyl top. The interior looked just like this one with the Hurst shifter and console. I bought mine right after sepertation from the Army in '69. It definately was a great car and I wish I still had it.
New subber, but I’ve been watching a while. I subbed because I saw a video pop in my feed a few days ago but didn’t have time to watch. When I came back later I couldn’t find it and I couldn’t remember the channel name. So I’m searching for 10 minutes and found what I was looking for (the recent 50yr stored video).... I said that’s not happening again! I don’t have an old car, couldn’t swing one if I wanted to, but have fond late 80s memories in high school of seeing the kids in old cars they paid 2-3000$ for and ran em hard. Even then we didn’t know the prices were going to skyrocket to housing prices. And the stories I read from the older guys spitting out memories, excellent.
8:34 Cool tidbit about the stripes. Heh I’ve seen some stuff like that before, more recently on my car when I cleaned the preservative wax out of the engine compartment. It looks like they threw paint at it. Everyone always says it’s a beautiful car and it is, but I’ve found a few factory screw ups along the way. The guy who painted the engine compartment must have been drunk, or was into interior decorating as I’ve never seen so many sags and curtains before!! And when they installed the wipers thru the body, they twisted the body gasket up. My dad bought this car new, so we know it’s history. What I’m getting at is , factories ain’t perfect and little things like those painted stripes happen!!
I know an old man that bought one new and still has it. It's exactly like this green one. He keeps it in his war bunker, foot and a half thick bomb shelter specially made for his family and this car, well his car. His might have the 302 I can't remember, he has always had lots of money for cool stuff. He is probably passed buy now. And I always loved those cars.
Better question is why paint it if you aren't going to drive it. He stated car has been parked since 1971 but painted in 1984 and never driven. In 1984 this car was not a big time deal. No one knew back then that it would be worth a butt load. I was 14 back then and you could have gotten that car for about 3k. So not sure why anyone would paint it and let it sit but who knows. I don't believe the story behind it just seems kind of fishy. Also the cowl tag didn't have an x-33 code which for sure would have made it a z28. I am not sure if all z28's had to ahve an X code or not. Also if there are no front disc breaks then it's not a Z28. I didn't watch the whole video to see if he he mentioned front discs or not.
beautiful car from the year i was born. i really love this car. how bout a 1971 firebird with 455 sd? i think this car and the firebird are my dream cars. you made an excellent find.
Patrick, Did you run the VIN on this car? is it a DZ block? There's a lot of speculation that the car might be a clone and the 120 MPH speedometer is enough to cast doubt. 1969 is a long time ago and the "experts" don't know everything, especially since Chevy may not have 100% consistent with the options.
My dad has two 69 Z-28's, one of which was also made in Cali and was this same green stock with the chrome trim as well. He had it repainted in the 80s the stock color but lightened up slightly with pearl white stripes and dark green pin striping. The car still looks gorgeous but this color is stunning as well. He gets told it's not an original Z car because it's from Cali, haha. Not many people know that lots of Z-28's didn't come with cowl hoods or chin spoilers. Both my dad's cars did not come with cowl hoods but he bought hoods from GM back in the 70's and put them on and kept the original hoods. The other one he has is the burnished brown color with white interior and center consol like this car. Both of his have under 60,000 miles and a few rare options on the brown one. Looks like these guys ran drugs in style!
I'm surprised the government sold it. It does not meet current emissions and safety regulations. But I'm glad they did. I sure hope the owner or future owners leave the correct wheels on it and don't ruin it with those horrible 24" GHETTO pimpmobile wheels that I have seen so many other beautiful classic cars ruined with.
Actually I do. I have been a vintage car mechanic for 36 years. I will not work on anything with a computer. I do mechanical work only, not paint and body or upholstery. True classic cars, and this one definitely fits that description, should be left completely stock. Nothing destroys the value (both monetary and intrinsic) more than modifying them. I don't really have a problem with period correct aftermarket wheels in the stock size, or building the engine for more power as long as it still looks stock, and has no electronics. If you want to destroy a car, stick with late model computer cars. They will never have any value.
Yes they are. But usually between private buyers and sellers. It is a well known fact that the government does not like vintage cars. They keep trying to put restrictions on them. Some states are trying to force owners of vintage cars before seat belts came out to put seat belts in them. So far it hasn't happened. But yes it does surprise me to see the government sell a car that does not meet modern standards. I guess they couldn't turn down the money. The government is the biggest enemy of vintage car owners. I tried like crazy to bring a brand new made in Mexico into AZ, but there was simply no legal way to register it here. Now manufacturers are coming out with complete vintage car bodies. All the other parts are already available. Since they are replicas, they can be titled as whatever they are replicas of. And if they are replicas of pre emissions cars, emissions regulations do not apply to them. I have a friend with a Shelby Cobra replica. He built it as a kit car. It does have seatbelts, but it has a 427 big block under the hood with a four barrel carburetor, and no emissions crap at all. I am not rich, and cannot afford most of the cars I work on. But I have an '89 Chevy pickup (standard cab) and I am collecting parts to put a '55 body on the '89 frame. Since the VIN is on the dash in the cab, it will be registered and insured as a '55, with modern running gear under it. It will have a carbureted V8. I will be able what looks like a beat up old truck anywhere I want, even have A/C in it. And no emissions to worry about.
Gerald Scott Its pre 1973 so it's not under new emissions regulations. I drive a 1969 Camaro and it has only the lap belts. No shoulder strap. Drum brakes too.
Gerald Scott guess you missed the fact it was sold in 84. Get off your high horse and shut the fuck up about shit you appear to know fuck all about. Your comments are those of a blooming fucking idiot.
wow if I known then what I know now I would have a barn full of mussel cars back in the day they went for 3,4,at the most 5 thousand bucks off the show room floor talk about return on your investment dam
The rear spoiler was probably dealer installed if you have pictures of it in original paint with the stripes over the back of the deck lid and the spoiler.
This is the car that I fell in love with when I was a kid. A friend of my cousin bought the exact car the only difference was his had a black vinyl roof. same color Z/28 R/S 302. He blew off many a Mustang with it. That thing would rip! I love it and I want it!!!! One more thing- How the hell don't you drive that thing?????? I would drive the shit out of that if it was mine!!!!
To all the doubters, 49 yr old factory paint is iffy at best, we don't know what storage facility it was in, was it heated? Was it humid? Was there water near by? A friend of mine back in the 70s bought a 68 Camaro, wound up being a tag job, auto squad pulled him over 1 night, impounded the car, 2 years later car gets a new vin# goes to auction, they left the windows open for 2 yrs, cops helped themselves to the heads and intake, hood open water in the block, bought it back needed every thing, threw the interior away, smelt like a dirty river, block was junk, shag carpet racing seat, nice 427, track car
Cld be wrong here but every original 69 z28/rs I've seen online has that same exact hood. it looks like they just forgot to put the heat insulation back on underneath. Awesome ride none the less.
The quality of the paint job is phenomenal. Whoever had it painted clearly paid top dollar for such a quality paint job. I might be able to detect it in person but from the video it looks flawless.
With all these classics, the exterior is sexy, but the interior is magical.
I'm sure what was in the trunk was pretty magical too..lol

Zach, it was a great time to be alive. I was 19 in 1969. I have lived and seen the greatest cars in history.
VERY pretty Z/28! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video Patrick. That was a nice stroll down memory lane. Great story behind the car, too.
Bet that would bring good money at Barrett Jackson
That place single handedly fucked cars up forever
Derek Joon ,
Barrett-Jackson is nothing more than a filthy liar and a thief exploiting people that are stupid with no brains and a lot of money.
it drove up the price of our hobby..69 camaros were abundant for 10-15Gs,along comes BJ and those same cars are now 50Gs and higher
excelerater ,
And the GLUT of them are still a GLUT!
excelerater..Right on bro..Although it helps a lot to keep these cars alive. They are a commodity now and they are out of reach pricewise. normal working people cant touch em. A double-edge-sword type thing
They don’t get much better than that. RS Z28 deluxe interior in rally green. I love it
that color green tho with those white stripes damn
The rear spoiler is dealer installed. That's the only explenation and a lot of them were put on. It's been stated that the option was so popular that many dealers would put spoilers on a select few as they came off the truck before they were even seen by potential customers.
What a cool story and color of the car. I just watched your red one video but this one takes the trophy for the best story. The old saying goes be smart don't use drugs but the smart one did choose the right car LOL. I'm just glad it didn't get totaled at a high speed chase. Thumbs up on this video also.
I agree !

I'm glad we didn't have cash for clunckers back than. We would of lost all kind of classics.
This should be called story tellers.
"Parked since 1971" , Shows a restored camaro...
Not restored just painted once
I'm curious why it needed to even be painted again if it's at since 71. Unless some doodoo ball had it outside.
my dads 1968 z28 same color he is original owner has the window sticker and car has 31k miles

Not rotting away, just preservation.
There is a conflict of interest here.
I bet that one day its gets taken out and driven its gonna drive so perfectly as if it were happy to be driven
I am amazed at the quality and rarity of cars you are able to find Patrick, very cool!!
Hope there is still some good reefer left inside the doors.I would roll me one up and stand back and just look at this beauty for hours.
Reefer in '71 would be 1/10th the strength (and quality) of todays.
Thanks, that beings back so many memories. If doctor ever wants to sale it, hit me up. The Z-28 paint stripe did run all the way under the spoiler.
It would be cool if the original owner that was hauling the dope is still alive and see’s the video

My Mom hated that he left rubber all the way down the street when I got dropped off.
would a 19000 mile car have rust on the cowl above the data tag ?
1959nickd you do realize that rust is due to oxydation not mileage? (Did I fell for a troll?)
its not unusual for really low milage cars from that era to have various parts rusted, axle, manifolds and more..
Always wanted one exactly like this. Even thinking of having one built from scratch.
Cool. If it was in storage then why repaint it? I hope the car was ordered without a rear spoiler and was dealer installed, otherwise the rear stripe should not have been painted at the bottom of the trunk lid if it was ordered from the factory.
My dad had one almost identical to that & sold it back in '75. Ours had white houndstooth seats, & a white vinyl top
It should have never been repainted !
It was probably rusted a little bit from sitting so long and they repainted and cleaned it
@@chillchopapa3275 yeah but they repainted it in the color vomit. It was going to be a repaint it should have been the original color.
Built in the GM Plant right down the boulevard from my home, which is now long gone,
torn down in 1995.
Wouldnt it be hilarious if it was bought then seized again for the same reason as before😂😂
i can still hear in my memory the unique sound of that 302
Cool car.It should be registered and enjoyed on the road
The exhaust tailpipes aren't original either. Someone replaced them.
I remember my '89 T/A 350 T.P.A that I bought for $2100 in '95 with the hypertech performance chip in it and duel exhaust and posy traction and it was quick. When the speedometer said 125 it kept idling past that so I've always had a knack for muscle cars and classics
It's been parked in storage since 1971. But needed repainted. Sounds funny to me. Enjoy your story.
@Mike Lyons yeah no doubt it was probably the original lacure paint before
There are all kinds of creatures that can shit on a vehicle in storage over years. Bats, mice, roaches, spiders, etc. In 1984 it saw the sun, probably oxidized from 1984 to 1996. I believe this story.
If it had been parked outside during storage, the interior would have been fried. It had to be stored inside or the whole car has been redone. It can't be both.
Even stored inside the dust and oxidation would ravaged that old lacquer paint.
And some guys do have their favorite color.
The 69 & 70 Camaro's are my favorite GM cars, more so than the Chevelle and Vetts
Would have been cooler to hear the engine run instead of all the talking, cool story though I guess...
@@baddazzgarage2953 It was supposedly parked by the goverment. Do you think they did anything to keep it in shape?
@@bradywilliams2666 ha ha probably not your right !!!! Nice car hope it was kept correctly!!
David Moshe a 65/66 wouldn’t have had a 302, the 302 didn’t come out until 1968
I own 40 cars over 25 years old and only three are this valuable and this nice.
Please excuse my mistake on the diverter valve. It is a 295 instead of 297. 295 is small block and 297 is big block. I do 10 big block documentaries to 1 small block and misspoke.
Read it again, Dwight...
Doing the math that car made three trips from Miami to California and back. Presuming California to Miami was the only route for the car.
Yeah Dwight, diverter valve!
What?
joe v Super Scoop hood was an option in 69 not available in 67 or 68. For 67,68 and 69 there was an optional cold air cleaner that drew air from the passenger cowl, all under the stock hood.
what a cool find! thanks for sharing this!
What a sweet ride she is !
Super Nice ! Thanks for sharing.
NICE MACHINE,WHAT A FIND.!!!!!!!!!
I noticed the 120 speedometer. Didn't the z-28 have a 140 speedometer?
yeap mine did.
120mph in 67-69'.

Cool tidbit about the stripes.
WHY WAS IT RE-PAINTED ? 1:40

Why did it need to be repainted. Not sure I believe the story!
Damage from the high speed chase.......
1969 is a long time ago and the "experts" don't know everything, especially since Chevy may not have 100% consistent with the options.
stevehart001 trust me it’s not a clone in any shape form or fashion
Patrick Glenn Nichols Musclecar Barn Finds Is it for sale Patrick?
They will never have any value.
..seconds what David said
Yes they are.

Beauty is a understatement. I wonder if the original owner has watched this video.
Wow. What a beautiful time capsule piece.
This is what heaven looks like
To all the doubters, 49 yr old factory paint is iffy at best, we don't know what storage facility it was in, was it heated?
Bodhi Zafa hood with the super scoop was an option. Roughly 5,000 (from memory) if the 28,000 Z/28’s sold for ‘69 had the super scoop.
Would love to own this car....I have watched this over and over.
