It is really big because it is an ecological reservation. We have endemic species right there, and foxes, tlacuaches, all kinds of birds and so on there. Also lots of plants
You should have taken the Pumabus! It's free and it takes you everywhere (though I assume you probably wanted to walk around). I really liked your video, UNAM is probably my favorite place in all of Mexico City. As a student or former student you truly feel like you're at home there, it gives you everything. Aside from being UNESCO world heritage, it's also a "reserva ecológica" and there are many endemic flora and fauna species.
I love this video. My wife studied here while working on her Master's degree. I spent a week here and searched every corner with no difficulties. Had a great time and took many pics. Hand ball is what I've always known as the sport you witnessed. There are handball courts in many parks in L.A. Near the bibliotheca was a trailer that sold blue corn quesadillas. The woman who ran it had blue hands from making tortillas all day. I spent quite a bit of money on these great delicacies! Thanks English Paul. Brought back great memories. FYI:y wife earned 2 Masters degrees. One in Mexican history and the other in Libraries and Information Studies!
Thank you so much for this beautiful video! I'm currently studying there and I'm just in love with it. Preciosa, Ciudad Universitaria... Pura chulada. Qué orgullo estudiar ahí. ¡POR MI RAZA HABLARÁ EL ESPÍRITU!
The volcanic rock comes because more than 1400 years ago a volcano called Xitle made an eruption and the whole zone was affected and that's why the zone of Pedregal, Coyoacán and parts of Tláhuac have those rocks, that also make the ground much more steady on earthquakes. Just so you know 😊
Thank you for this excellent and organized information. I enjoy it a lot!!! I was an UNAM student from 1965 to 1977. Yes, we all, Mexico City natives play frontón a mano, three band billiard and boxing like almost nobody else in the world. Curiously the best fronton players are among the very wealthy and the very poor people; but we all play it. A really luxury home has fronton and swimming pool; a poor neighborhoods have public fronton courts.
Amazing video Paul!, indeed UNAM´s hole campus is massive only one faculty looks like a small square I´ve been there and is a real proud not just for any student in there but for every mexican to have a university that is not only a world wide heritage symbol but the better spanish speaking university according the ranks, ohh and Carlos Slim even studied engineering there aswell and so Octavio Paz the Nobel prize of literature, great video Paul, very thumbs up and see you in your next one :D
Thanks! And thanks for the further info. Yeah it's an amazing place and I will be going back to see more of it, I really want to see the botanical garden there. Speak to you soon!
Another awesome video, I cant stop watching your videos man, its great to see an outsider remind me of how beautiful it's my country Saludos desde Mexicali.
i've just discover your channel today and i love it now. Thanks for sharing the mexican culture with anglo people. I'm from Estado de México by the way. Keep the good work up! Saludos!
Thanks for the video on UNAM, and thanks for beginning with the Univ. Cultural Center, which almost NEVER shows up on the tourism videos of the University!! For me personally, it was great to see the old "office", and to see how the area has developed. Kudos, man!!
It would've been cool if you also showcased the free inner transportation system! (Free bus rides within the campus as well as free bike-rental), the huge protected natural areas (alongside the sculptory area), the botanic garden, the Study Center for Foreigners, idk, I really like showing other people how awesome UNAM is
Amigo, it's awesome you made a video of my beloved university, although I don't study in Ciudad Univertaria, I study in another UNAM campus in Morelia, Michoacán. I been many times in C.U. and I absolutely love there. I love the MUAC, you should give it a try and enter there. I am a blessed Puma... GOOOOYA, GOOOOYA, CACHÚN CACHÚN RA RA, CACHÚN CACHÚN RA RA, GOOOOYA, UNIVERSIDAD.
Mexico is the star and not me. Also I am not a vlogger seeking personal attention like most RUclipsrs. But it's nice to know people are interested in me in a fan kind of way.
If u have a chance try Los dinamos a very cool place south side the city full of trees, huge rivers and even cascades. Also try to go to the mountains Ajusco and xitle located southern side as well.
Thank you, I appreciate the videos you make of Mexico City,. I only visited the D.F. once, and that was in 1994. A friend invited me, I enjoyed the City., from what my friend had shown me. Thank you.
Hey there, Paul. Well, I have officially watched all of your videos. I am impressed with everything you have done so far, and for a foreign person, you have done a great job talking about my country's capital city and what it has to offer. Pumas de la UNAM is my favorite team from the Mexican football league, and maybe one day, I'd like to get my master's from UNAM. Two weeks, God willing, and I will be in Ciudad de México. Keep creating more videos because I am sure as hell that more people like myself, truly enjoy them. So long!
And it's true, everybody plays that game haha, and there's also a renting system for us students and we can rent a bike and leave it at other station to move around the campus. I see you forgot to visit the botanical garden that is to the south of the campus, hope you do next time!! It's a really nice place, it's on the side of the CCH.
I just finished watching all your videos and i enjoyed them a lot. I love CDMX and you have given me some ideas for my next visit. Is also cool that you are from Manchester; great city, great rock bands and interesting architecture. Anyway, sorry for my english. I'm still working on it. Keep it up man! Greetings from Guadalajara.
Very nice video TM!, really appreciate your effort doing it. But as you might've realised, the Ciudad Universitaria is so big that is kind of impossible to cover in just one clip, hahaha. But this one is quite good, interesting and entertaining! Thank you so much!
I had to run into that building and through the library to get to the bathroom once! lol visiting that campus was an amazing experience. If I recall, there's also this cool metro system just beyond the campus.
Oh... I studied at UNAM. I passed by the fronton courts every day to go to the engineering faculty. This made me a bit nostalgic, since I've been living in the US for almost ten years now. I'm going back to CDMX in one month after a year of not being there... thunk I'll go take a walk around CU. Thanks!
Love your videos!!! I´m Mexican, and they are really interesting because of your points of view as a foreigner. Please put in Spanish subtitles, i want to share them !
Thanks a lot! I am not able to put subtitles because it would take too long. I have enabled videos to be translated from anyone watching, so kind of crowdsourcing translations. I will mention it in a video soon.
really great place to visit, but it really is huge. went twice. once just to look around and the next time to see pumas play. great stadium for football. i am already arranging which game i am going to see... keep em up amigo.
Oh I study History in the Philosophy and Letters faculty, near the Central Library that you were filming, I could give you a tour whenever you want. Also you could take the Pumabus, is free and have many routes so you can move all over the campus.
Great video, definitely nostalgic for me, didn't go to UNAM but lived 5 min from there. About the building with the murals unless they changed it that's not the library that's the "rectoría" the main office for the UNAM, the library is or at least was close to the symphonic Hall, it is a modern building 4 or 5 floors. Like I said that's how I remember it anyway. Thanks for giving me a bit of my city through your videos hermano! Gracias!
Happy you enjoyed it! The building I showed has been UNAM's central library since 1950 and has its own wikipedia page! :) Are you thinking it's a different building? There are others with murals.
Nice video keep it up and you will become source of a ambassador for the English people living here in our country PS: Whenever you come all the way to Acapulco give me a shout, me and my sister are into your channel
Hi Paul I love your Channel! The sport in your video is called Handball here in California. I am Mexican American and grew up playing handball with friends and relatives. I never notice before that we all happened to be Mexican American until now. Anyways, it's super fun, you should try it. : )
The fronton part reminded me when I was studying in high school in Mexico. I think it is a very popular sport in the central part of Mexico. I have a couple of friends that studied there. I tried but I could not get in lol. The admission test is very hard and very few people get in. Great video though!!!
Had a little heart attack when he was at Frontones filming jajaja Thank God everything went smooth there... You know... Anyway Beautiful C.U. and nice vid.
In the US that sport/game is known as wall handball. I used to see people play it growing up. I remember the guys paying it used to think they were all tough.
UNAM used to be one of the very few universities where young people could get a degree in this country. Now, every state in Mexico has at least one public university, plus the private ones, and students don't have to go to college outside their home state. So, UNAM is becoming more of UNADF or UNACDMX since most of its students are from Mexico City. Thank you for this video.
The University of California has an exchange program with UNAM too. You can come study here for over a year. Pretty awesome. check out UC EAP Program Mexico eap.ucop.edu/OurPrograms/mexico/Pages/default.aspx
you forgot to say that UNAM is Tuition Free University, Mexican students need no loans to get a degree
Very good point.
Not true , there is a tuition just not expensive
@@chipifarts its so cheap that its virtually free to be fair

It is really big because it is an ecological reservation. We have endemic species right there, and foxes, tlacuaches, all kinds of birds and so on there. Also lots of plants
And also the botanic garden is giant and you can see many plants
My feet are still hurting after walking around the UNAM campus. Massive! JOIN My Personal Blog (Patreon): www.patreon.com/truemexico
How long ago did you start learning Spanish/Castilian and how long have you been living in Mexico?
The first time I was there I hated it!!! It was such a long walk and we had been to the Basilica before on the same day.
Thank you! UNAM, CU campus, my Alma Mater! Proud Puma, here!

When you mentioned the "famous" people that studied at UNAM you missed Carlos Slim which was for many years the richest man in the world.
You meant the biggest thief? didnt you? I dont know if you are aware of the whole story behind his wealthy
Miguel Ortega Carlos Slim is the mask of Carlos Salinas de Gortari. Furthermore, the richest man in the world is Bill Gates.
in addition to the fact that the two nobel prizes of Mexico came from this university

I'm a puma, and this was great and nostalgic. . .
Puma is the official mascot of UNAM, so we call ourself pumas.

My pleasure :)
can anyone help me if they know how to apply to go to school there I live in California rn
