This is why we are looking to move to Mexico City in the next three years so my stepson can attend UNAM ! My sister n law and my niece both graduated from there along with one of my stepson’s science teachers at the middle school he attended here in Waco, Texas. So I know it’s a great education and it can get you a good job back in the states if he want to come back here to live in the future, but why would he want to do a thing like that!

Public universities are not appreciated enough here in Mexico. There’s nothing like finishing school without owing a peso to anyone. And yeah, you can get small scholarships in case you need that support. To give back for public school you are obligated to do social service for a year and that’s a great learning experience too. I did my social service at an animal shelter which I will always remember fondly.

    • @palomavega6494
      @palomavega6494 6 лет назад +7

I studied communications, you can study law here but it’s a different system than the US so I’m not sure if you could practice there. However, Master’s degrees and Doctorates are available at public universities as well, although not entirely free. It depends on the school, the most expensive ones tend to be around 12 000 pesos per semester (600 dollars per semester). We also have private schools with excellent programs as well, and different types of scholarships.

Good luck to you going to la UNAM.
I too dreamed about going back to México, to study at la UNAM.
I went to college in 1995, before the internet. The information was not so easy to get to.
I had to call to try to understand their processes--in Spanish, to no avail.
I ended up going to the University of South Florida.
I suggest you get your Mexa passport.
It makes it easier to prove your citizenship and eligibility.
Check the Consulado de México, in your state. Their site has lots of good information. You can even get your voting card (la INE), to vote from the US.
Start studying Spanish--even on your own. I've taught myself Spanish and am actually decent.

More than Huge ; ) Love your videos.

Although I was not able to study at UNAM because an strike started in 2008, I would had been very happy studying there. I recall this frase from a movie "The place where people meet to seek the highest, is holy ground" and I can say that UNAM is the height of bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies in Mexico.

I love that you took the time to go to my own alma mater. But guys, this video needed to be longer... 20 minutes atleast in order to show what the university is all about. You also shouldve gone during school days (friday is best imo) in order to really show everything that goes on there everyday and maybe show one of the many facultys you missed. Please, try to return.

Also do not forget minimum wage in Mexico is the lowest in the whole American continent. $88 pesos/day roughly (U.S. $5/day), so those 20 pesos/taco mean you can only buy about 4,5/day.
So everything is "cheap" when you are making $/€/£ back in your country and spending your money in pesos for "cheap" stuff.

That was a very interesting video! I also had no idea that public universities there were free. I, like you, cry when I have to make my student loan payment. It's so painful. I doubt I would make the 8% though. I was just thinking about Luis the other day and wondering if he was still around. I also had no idea that raspado's were made with shaved ice. That is so cool! I really want to try one. They sell them all over the place here in Tucson. In Hawaii they also have shaved ice snow cones. I'm wondering what the mural is all about like does it have a story. Take care!

For an avarage student is easy to get into the UNAM, otherwise I had met some Americans that they are enrolling in the University to get a free degree in Mexico and then they were planing to go back to US (for foreigners is not easy to be accepted). Also the master's degrees and doctor's degrees are free.
