- At the age of 9 in the year 2002 her mother died, leaving
her siblings behind. Her father, a civil servant was still
alive but her relatives decided that it was best that she and
her sister were left in the paternal grandmother’s care, as
they were girl children, it was believed a man was not fit to
take care of them contrary to him being their father. For
this reason she had to move from her hometown that the
family had lived to go and live with her grandmother in
mutare. From there on her father’s sister took over her
care mentioning that the grandmother was old to be taking
care of minor children therefore moving from Mutare, so this meant moving again and for about two years she lived with this aunt. Her father then remarried and managed to take her back into his care, meaning she had to move again. 4 years later her father died too leaving her a complete orphan in the care of her stepmother for a year.
After this her biological mother’s sister and her family
took her in. This family was the reason she managed to live in stability and do well in school to the stage of going to law school then getting married and starting a life of her own.
The moving around, changing schools, sometimes struggling with school fees would have discouraged her but it did not, instead it made her stronger. She hasmanaged to gain experience in her field enabling her to stand on her own and opening her own law firm by the name Vivian Matsa Law Offices. She is a leader in society and uses her influence to uplift young girls and other ladies with the message THAT BEINGAT YOUR LOWEST IS NOT THE END BUT JUST A PLATFORM FOR YOU TO RISE ANEW AND CREATE AMAZINGTHINGS. When life throws you a second chance DONOT SLEEP ON IT BUT GRAB IT AND MAXIMISE IT.
She is the Founding and Managing Partner of
Vivian Matsa Law Offices. She wishes to uplift
and inspire other women through her life
story. From growing up as an orphan without
much to getting assistance to attend college
and attaining her Law degree, later on a
Masters in Law up-to opening her own law
firm in Zimbabwe. Her decision to study law
was for her to empower herself by gaining
more understanding of how the law works in
different facets of life in order to be able to be
able to advocate for victims of injustice. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
