Absolutely outstanding and a real tour de force. If an interior design is over the top then you really can't hold back and Slatkin has resisted any temptation to do so. This transcends being a home and has moved into the realm of art. I note that his home is now on the market and I hope that a prospective purchaser will appreciate everything that has been put into this apartment and that it is not bought by a philistine who "renovates" everything and destroys a masterpiece.

I love it! I built my home 10 years ago in a plantation look. I’ve been decorating mine for years, golds on walls and ceilings, needlepoint rugs with French baroque mirrors, French lamps with yards of silk. Large paintings and one thing I do is collect French urns, I have Orchids in every room... Another thing I collect is bergere chairs, there’s nothing more beautiful than a silk down stuffed bergere..It’s always a work in progress but lots of fun especially finding a remarkable piece all by serendipity.......One more thing, beautiful electrical sconces, I’ve tried to incorporate them in all my rooms plus large antique chandeliers..
Ive become absolutely obsessed with rock crystal chandeliers...and I too love urns! Unlike alot of objets,urns are useful as vases even though they look beautiful without anything. I used to love clocks but now I really don't like them so much, they take up a lot of room.

This has to be the ultimate example of Fifth Ave taste, a capsule in time ,,,, overwhelming but I could spend a year just examining each detail ,,,, couldn't live in it but love it ,,,
I remember Howard Slatkin from House and Garden years ago. He did an Addison Mizner estate in Florida, which was replete with pattern and design: it was mesmerizing. I have been dying to imitate his drapes in that drawing room from that estate but haven't quite found the right red, white and blue fabrics. And his apartment is truly resplendent. I love someone who knows how to live. It is a gift to be surrounded by such exquisite treasures. I believe surrounding yourself with beauty feeds and nourishes the soul.
I envy you being about travel around and visit these stunning residences, to see the reflection of people's personalities and dreams (and their spirit) in these interiors.
Yes I have been a long time fan of Howard's as well! He has since moved on from this apartment but it was truly magnificent! And thank you - we do feel privileged to be able to share the homes of these talented designers and stylemakers!

He absolutely has the most opulent aromatic candles around! They actually transport you to an opulent setting such as within the inner realms of his creatively imaginative universe and home! Luxe X 1 million!

Very interesting comment from Mr. Slatkin: "If you've got a certain budget or you've got only enough time to focus on something, I'd rather say put it in the things you touch every day" That is good commons sense.---I went back in the video to look at the cup or tumbler in his dressing room so I could get a better look at the pens. I think I saw two Mont Blanc pens in there. I'm not surprised! I'm on "...a certain budget" myself but I have some nice pens, nothing really expensive except for a Mont Blanc that I found and that no one ever claimed despite my lost-and-found ads and signs and I like to select the pen I'm going to take with me when I go out for the day. I'll put it this way: Have, enjoy, use!

It's so deliciously cluttered but in the most elegant and tasteful way. I love how various objects are put in place and while they are of different design disciplines, it looks well put together.

That is such a good point. With the uncertain time we're now living in. It's now 2020 as I read your comment. I've been thinking about what would I take if I needed to leave my home for safety reason. I'd take my Bible, the cats, water and my laptop.

I agree. It’s a work of art, but oh my. I’m working on a theory based on having seen several of these Park Avenue homes; some people overfill them as a reaction to the constraints of living in a crowded, dirty, noisy, dangerous city. It is one area that they can control, and even if space is at a premium, the space is stuffed to the gills with beauty to counterbalance the outside. Those tole sculptures are magnificent.

Agree, let the home owner speak more. In you enthusiasm, you often cut them off which comes across as rude. I often wonder what the owners think after the film crew leaves?

I always find myself wishing that these elegant New York apartments were bigger so things could be spread out more. So many lovely things but so tightly packed. I find myself drawn to minimalism after seeing one of them. But lovely none the less.

Beautiful perfection . How does one homeowner , or perhaps a staff of a couple or several , keep a home like this clean and tidy , dust free ? Keeping porcelain , sculpture , etc. clean where detail and fine grooves are present ? I've ruined a few pieces of unglazed fine porcelain sculptures through cleaning very carefully , or so I thought . What happens when someone cleaning chips or breaks something ? Incredibly beautiful to look at and live in , but I don't believe I would want to be responsible for the cleaning and upkeep . And this fine talented gentleman probably owns several other homes as well , equally designed with maximum flair . He needs an entire staff of fine art and historic preservationist . 🤷♂️💐🥂🍾
