- On this episode of building a house from start to finish, we start working on the upper roof! This roof is a simple flat roof design, with parapets all the way around, and box gutters running the length of the roof. Additionally there are 2 skylights in each unit which we have to frame up for and install while building the roof.

at 00:53 I said these are skillion trusses, which they're not. A skillion roof typically has a steep fall whereas we're building a low slope flat roof.

Seeing the neighbouring buildings at 14:54, makes me want to ask why box gutters are soo common with your builds when recentish houses there have regular ass gutters. New regs, preferred style, what gives?
I love the videos Dave! (From vic) I’m wanting to do an apprenticeship but I’m torn between electrician and carpentry, I have some trade experience from doing roof plumbing but I’m still not sure, should I continue roof plumbing?
Tbh man you’ll probably get bored pretty quick with roof plumbing. Can’t comment on electrical myself but if you’re going to be a chippy make sure it’s in residential.

@@kaleemyusuf9933 just don’t learn anywhere near as much or gain the skills of a traditional chippy. On the other hand if you like concrete, looking at plans, doing fix outs and having every other trade imaginable working on top of you all the time then maybe commercial is the way to go.
