Construction Documentation: A Milestone in Our Clients' Custom Home Journey

- We’ve reached a major phase in our projects-the Construction Documentation stage! This is where our vision transforms into precise, detailed plans, ready to guide the clients' projects from concept to reality.
In this critical phase, we create a formal document set that not only brings clarity to every design choice but also ensures the home is ready for permitting and seamless construction. From exact dimensions to material specifications, each document provides builders with the information they need to construct the home exactly as envisioned.
Watch our video for insights on what goes into these documents and how they set the stage for a successful build.

Wow. The detail on the CD is impressive. I've always prided myself on a quality set of drawings. After watching this video, I will have to step my game up. Thanks. I love the content, and I'm looking forward to future videos. Cheers!
Thanks! And I’ve seen sets with more detail than mine that I aspire to… There’s always something new to try, right? Appreciate the comment!
Hello! Nice drawings! Do you use only archicad/revit or are there any extra tools (for CD specifically)
Thanks! For CDs, just Revit. I’ve spent a fair amount of time dialing in the view templates and other standards but that’s all just native Revit. I do use a handful for plugins like DiRoots suite and Enscape but that’s more for file management and design modeling/quick visualizations respectively.
My structural engineer and i always talked about how much is too much documentation. I worked on a 365,000 SF high school, 9 people for 18 months. But that was with hand drafting. The one problem with construction documents, you just want it to be over. I quit when I am getting bored with the project. After 55 years I think I know when to stop. Also no matter how much you draw, a bad contractor is still a bad contractor. That is why we do no public work, choose our clients and recommend good contractors, the ones that are left. The inexperience inspectors want to make sure the construction matches the drawings. One deviation requires a change in the drawings or a letter. Most inspectors today have no construction experience.
Your using sketchup? Looking good.
Thanks! No SketchUp though, I'm all Revit. The various 3d shots are either Enscape (plug-in for Revit) or 3dsMax+Corona.
sketchup is not BIM..
Ideally you'd want the engineers involved as early as possible. People are going to live in the home so the function of the home should be the number one priority. Maybe its just because I'm in the trades but to me I would rather compromise on form to ensure the home functions efficiently. You see so many of these really high end custom homes where you just look at it and you can see form was the priority. Its basically "lipstick on a pig".
Are your available for hire?
Yes! If you have a project in mind feel free to share your project details on my design proposal page on my website. Thanks for your interest! vanvoorhisarchitects.com/design-proposal
